Thanks, Dean. Merline Johnson, who composed this 12-bar blues in 1937 and recorded it in the key of G, was born in 1912 - about a hundred years before Tuba Skinny were getting established. Coal mining in Alabama dates back to 1815. But perhaps Merline's 'man' was mining for some other commodity, such as iron ore. Anyway, he made good money, as she could spend his 'dollar' or ride in his 'Cadillac 8'. 'He may look dusty when he comes out, but I swear he knows what it's all about.' Tuba Skinny play it in A flat - a semitone higher than Merline's recording. A special treat: the two choruses (03:06 - 04:01, exchanging fours and then twos) between Shaye and Craig - a delightful musical conversation.

Like a good wine, they and their music get better all the time!! First heard this number on a re-release of old 78's on an album called Women of the Blues I bought in Westwood Village back in 1969 while at the University. Great job Tuba Skinny!!!

Love it when they take a tune out of the vault and dust it off. It's been some time since they have played this. Erika sounding strong and I love the interaction between Craig and Shaye. True professionals making it look so easy...............................

Why set your cameras, right behind someone's shoulder and the back of the man's head. Don't the man operating the camera check his viewfinder? So simple to correct! fv.

I never understand why people can't just accept how very lucky they are to be getting a FREE performance without sniping at the person who has provided it for them. He's not an official cameraman. Maybe that was the best seat he could get.
