Hey Mr. Pete! You have a few nice gems down in those bins. I especially liked that big rule holder you got. I've never seen one like that before. The Starrett rule holder is still being made and I bought one of them a couple years back. It's pretty handy on the boring mill to help measure the heights of jobs, or to even use for setting a surface gage or height gage too. Just having my morning coffee here in Spanish Fort and thought I'd drop by and say hello. 👍🏻

Mr. Pete, at 9:02 you're picking up a pry bar known as a "die jack". Among other uses this tool is used to lift and separate the two halves of die sets used in the tool and die trade. Dedicated die jacks do not have nail puller slots which suggest these are also used as crow bars and nail pullers. Thanks for showing us another great bunch of tools you didn't need but couldn't resist buying.

As a machine repairman at Buick, I worked on Gleason machines. The ones we had, cut bevel gears and we called them Revacycles. They were basically broaching machines with the teeth of the broach arranged in a large circle that rotated as it cut out the valleys of the teeth from the bevel gear blank. The broach wheel made 1 revolution per tooth, then a Geneva drive would index the blank for the next tooth. For each pass, after the last tooth of the broach made it's cut, a fly cutter on the broach wheel spun around and de-burred the edge of the gear. They spun around at least 20 times as the broach wheel made 1 revolution, so I was always changing worn bearings from them and they had to be timed just right to remove the correct amount of material. These Gleason machines were one of the most interesting machines to watch run at the factory.

The sandblaster is potentially one of the most destructive devices around. If not performing the butchery you have shown, they are spreading minute amounts of abrasive dust around the shop area. Like radioactive contamination, once its on the loose, it's hard to clean up. It appears to be the favorite tool of the "slap-some-paint-on-it" types, who then call it a "complete restoration".

I use white vinegar and non iodine salt in water, depending on the amount of tools being cleaned. 1 gallon of water, 2 cups of white vinegar and 1/2 cup of salt. It works great and place the tools to be cleaned in the solution for about an hour, depending on the rust. Check the tools by rubbing them with a a towel or 000 steel wool. I've left tools in the solution for many days without problems. Good luck.

Gleason is out of Rochester, NY. They were building gear machines back in the 1800's. I believe that they developed the offset automotive rear end system or the machines to cut those gears. Their logo features this gear design. They purchased Pfauter as part of their spur gear machinery development in the 1990's. About the same time they aquired the rights to the Okomoto designed and built gear grinder. Setting up the Gleason gear grinder required precision beyond our shop's previous experience. For this reason I became the first at our company to own a .00005" test indicator. I have only ever used that indicator on that machine and only after I needed to repair crash damage or Heidenhein scales.

Its the thrill of discovery in auctions, especially random box tool auctions, I enjoy watching your auction find videos. That last word indicator is a premier find for sure - and those craftsman wrenches are some of the original ones that are stamped "forged in USA" - made me sick the first time I saw they had taken that off the new made in china ones, just more imported junk now but with the high craftsman price-lol. Craftsman aren't the best but far from the worst and I can still remember back in the 70's when I was finally able to afford my first set of Craftsman wrenches to replace my crappy department store junk. I had to mow grass and do odd jobs for most of a summer so I could start buying my first decent hand tools to work on my mowers and gokarts. And not a metric tool in sight back then unless you drove a Japanese import.

The principal activity is the design, manufacture and sale of machinery and equipment for the production of bevel and cylindrical gears. The Company manufactures a complete line of machines and tooling for bevel gears. Bevel gears transmit power at an angle, such as from the drive shaft to the rear-axle of a vehicle.
