Fabricating inner fenders so it can lay frame and fully steer. Set it on bumpstops 1/2" off the ground, and still drive.
At 8:09 I said 20ga, I meant to say 18ga. I just wanted 11% more.

The “Welding Blanket” over the engine is a nice tip. Using magnets, tape or whatever, place one on the windshield as well, unless it needs replaced and you don’t care about the “Bug”. Don’t ask how I know to cover the glass during grinding, welding or plasma work, a guy I know did that!

I just started thinking about doing this to my 61 and I traced what would be the bottom of the hood edges on top of the fenders, you end up with a an inside edge and an outside edge. That outside edge you FOR SURE don't wanna go outside of and the inside edge you COULD but then that means your modding the hood to so it will set back down. So my plan is to not have to modify the hood but I'm ok with cutting into the outer fenders if I have to. Ideally I'll max out my wheel/tire size and get the backspace right so everything will work out right. Glad to see someone else modding the stock inners though, I'm not a fan of the big round after market ones for some reason.

Turned out I only needed to slice about 5/8" off the bottom flange of the hood - fits perfect, and completely invisible from the outside.

No wheel hub clearance issues with those Jeep wheels? I scored some nice brand new ones for my GMT400 trucks but the hubs are too big on mine so they didnt seat right. A shame.
@GregWellwood

No clearance issues, though I did machine the hub down to fit the wheels.

Its interesting that you TIG structural parts but MIG sheet metal...wouldnt the sheet warp less with TIG?
@GregWellwood
@GregWellwood 2 жыл бұрын
Since this video was done, I've progressed to TIG'ing sheet metal, preferably with zero filler, just fusing it together.

I’m sure you’ve been asked, but I’ve not found it yet…. Do you like your 3” DA sander, and what brand is it? Asking since I’m too a point of getting one, and have read numerous good and bad reviews, and don’t know who to believe. Really like your detail and demonstration! Thanks I’m advance!
@GregWellwood

I don't have a 3" DA sander, but all of my air tools are usually whatever was cheapest and on sale at Princess Auto. PA is pretty impressive with their cheap air tools. Electric tools have been whatever was on sale at Canadian Tire, but I've been moving upward on those as there is a "too cheap" price point out there.

@@GregWellwood very cool. I thought you had a small sander that you were using and mistaken it for a small DA. Thanks a bunch!

Likely my 1/4" angle die grinder with generic 3" roloc discs. I like it a lot, but the abrasives get pricey. In my later videos I have progressed to grind beads down with a 3" cut-off disc (on either a straight or angle 1/4" die grinder) and then smooth it with the 3" rolocs. I've learned a TON over the past year. Still not loving autobody. Tonight the frame got stripped for blasting.
@mattchastain1770
@mattchastain1770 2 жыл бұрын
@@GregWellwood glad to know that’s what you were using, and even more so since I’ve already got one of those. You’re very right about the abrasives. I’ve not decided how far down the rabbit hole to go with regard to the frame. Mine lived on a farm and didn’t experience salt on icy roads, and yes, a bit of rust for its 59 years. Thinking of building a large blasting cabinet so I don’t have to do panels outdoors.
