I am hoping the staples you placed through the seating surface side of the thick padding don't cause too much trouble...on one side they can distort the surface of the padding under the material that you placed over it...(just a problem with look and feel)...but if the staples back out (which will allow the padding to be more uniform....but the staples will be felt and seen.) Other than those little quibbles... well done! I envy the ability of knowledge as well as having the tool to recreate things with the 3D printer. Good job overall! For the next one... you could glue down the padding prior to the exterior material and that should serve you well (for the seat bottom) .... for the back rest...maybe you could have wrapped the thicker padding around the back side and allowed the staples to hold the thick padding on a surface that won't be matter too much if a staple pulls away (as you DID cover the area that would hide the fraying material) Kudos for that! Lots of ways to skin a cat...and cover them...but most often the cat should be sedated. 😅🤣😂

I used to do auto upholstery for a dozen years or so...and never have I seen those canvas pliers! I know there are different schools of upholstery "joinery" between auto and home upholstery schools like tack strips vs pull downs and or hooks or velcro....

I am really only scratching the surface with attempting upholstery - which to be fair was a bit of a bodge job. I read a little bit and look at some recommended tools but went for it without any real practical knowledge other than wrapping xmas presents, changing my duvet cover and occasionally stretching panting canvases. The canvas pliers is for stretching panting canvases so I was using it a little differently. I do have my grandmothers old dining chairs which are from the 1960s and I'd like to upholster new seating covers properly. The wadding on those isn't stappled or glued down, and the fabric is folded carefully and tacked into place with nails with wide heads. I'll be a lot more careful when I do those. Would you use double sided carpet tape instead of glue? Automotive upholstery sounds and looks more complicated. Thanks for the comment!

@@SavvasPapasavva I wasn't trying to necessarily bust your chops or anything...no one except Jesus was born knowing everything and even He came across as humble....but that aside...I wouldn't necessarily trust double side tape to hold for a long time. Depending on what you use it to attach to. May work to hold a piece of wood for routing purposes for a small fast spinning blade like router or saw going against said wood...but blunt forced like a shifting butt or back may move it from its place of wanted rest....just like a hand can push the board off the thickness planter after the operation is done where you used tape to hold it down for that purpose.
