I never comment on KZbin videos, but these videos are PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They make the MPC Live like 10 times the instrument it is without them. Akai should hire you to do videos for all of their products. Seriously, these are some of the best instructional videos I've ever seen. They cover everything!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!! I totally agree with TwoWrights below - they are like nuclear bombs detonating and expanding the potential of this 2001 Space Odyssey-looking brick!

Yah, I agree. I also printed the user manual (OK) and bought MPC Bible (Better!) but the old adage holds, I suppose, or at least a modification of it: "A (moving) picture is worth 1,000 words." Especially when it comes to the likes of a box like this. Complex, but worth learning.

Hi Tube Digga! I must say these tutorials are fantastic!! I've recently jumped ship from being a long time Native Instruments Maschine user over to MPC 2.0. These tutorial's have been a god send and I'm now completely off and running after spending a few hours watching these vids. I'm really enjoying the MPC Live and what it has to offer. It's a superb machine and I feel Akai did an outstanding job developing these units. I'm already considering getting the MPC X as my main studio center piece and having the MPC Live as my portable solution, huge gratitude for uploading these in depth breakdowns it's truly appreciated! I will be donating some cash via PayPal soon. Thanks again!

James White Good question! And one I’ll try to answer as honestly as possible. I think both products excel in different areas. The workflows are similar. For me the sample editor is way ahead of Maschine with so many more options and possibilities! As for browsing stuff, Maschine is ahead there as anything from NI inter greats superbly. I really could go on and on here but I won’t. Both are good. But I feel the MPC is better all around. Maschine lacks a lot hence the reason I made the switch. And lastly... Yes I still use stuff from NI in MPC 2.0 the synths, Kontakt libraries ect.

Thanks again TD! Id like to add and warn that storing to the internal drive also isn't recommended, simply because the drive isn't reliable! I've experienced myself and I've seen YT vids of people who also had a crash of this drive, losing all data on it and not being able to use it anymore afterwards. If this happens, you don't only lose your own projects, but you also can't use the factory content anymore, neither save files or projects on it. If it happens, return the unit to AKAI or your AKAI dealer.

A lot of these pages in the program editor have changed since the new updates, Why is mute group in the LFO destinations ? It’s not in the modulation page anymore was just wondering if that was even something that could be modulated as a destination? Also it was very hard to get the same modulation results as you were playing with the start velocity and filter as they have put these also on its own page so you have to go back and forth between pages now. I sorta figured it out but was unable to get the same results as they sounded so cool when you were applying them. Maybe with the note retrigger you were playing with half velocity settings and releasing pressure with your finger ? And this is something you would want to record by hand? I was hoping it was going to automate the pressure velocity for me like I’m hearing in the video. ..

@TUBEDIGGA5 жыл бұрын
Winston Wright Vel>Sta is velocity to sample start, so with a short sample like a snare drum you’ll need to apply full pressure to the pad to hear it, or put the pads in full level mode. Lower velocity values will trigger the sample but further into it where there is a lot less volume.

I always used mono on the MPC 2000. I read it was cool for kits. it was suggested in the article to use poly on ride cymbals because its like continued notes. I don't know why it said that.J Dilla the great Hip Hop producer said he liked switching his pads to mono. so what gives? is it a problem if you set your drums to mono on the MPC Live?
@TUBEDIGGA6 жыл бұрын
ccfunk1 It’s not a black and white situation - personally I do both depending on the samples I’m using or the type of program. For example, when it comes to individual samples on pads, most of the time in breakbeat based music you wouldn’t have a snare and a kick fall on the same step/beat, so you would set them to the same mute group. But your hats would usually fall on the same steps as both the snare and kick so you’d set this to a different mute group or possibly no mute group. When you create chop programs from the sample editor these are automatically set to MONO because you’re dealing with a whole bar or bars of a breakbeat sample that ideally needs to not overlap. That’s why in the MPC you have options - pad mutes, program polyphony and pad polyphony.
@ccfunk16 жыл бұрын
Okay I got you. but I've been setting up my kits with the pads set to mono for years. I didn't want to change that.the MPC Live is suppose to be backwards compatible. so it can load programs and sequences from older MPCs. so I was hoping it would be I could rock how I would normally rock. first red flag I guess.
@TUBEDIGGA6 жыл бұрын
I don’t understand your issue, you can do everything you want, set the entire program to mono or poly, set the pads to mono or poly, or use mute groups.
@ccfunk16 жыл бұрын
I do get what you are saying. i'm just saying I always have set the pads to mono in my programs on the MPC 2000xl. I don't have the Live yet. I 'm saving to get on this year. so i'm trying to understand it with KZbin videos

Tube digga when I loop a sound on a pad it decreases in volume because of the release time do you have a workaround for that?(that isn't using clip mode.)
@TUBEDIGGA6 жыл бұрын
The only way to get loops to play ‘infinitely’ is to enter the note into your sequence. Then go in to the grid editor and select that note and use the EDIT END parameter and increase the note length for as long as you want. Of course the sequence has to play without looping to trigger the pad and continue looping. This is the one thing I feel the Pioneer DJS1000 has over the MPC as it it can loop samples without having to trigger them from the sequence, which is brilliant for drones. You could also try sending the MPC a ‘note-on sustain’ cc via a midi controller - that may work, I think it’s cc 63 or 64.
@vincentneutron6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for responding,I’ve never tried the pioneer but I am a long time user of MPC style sequencing so I would switch, it would be great if they could set infinite envelopes so that you could make a really good performance program, using pad mutes and different loops as well as single shot drum samples.
@vincentneutron6 жыл бұрын
Yeah that could be it, disk streaming is why it was hard to choose this over the deluge, but maybe AKAI will pull it out of the bag!

@TUBEDIGGA2 жыл бұрын
If they’re on an SD card or usb stick/SSD drive then yes, you could do it quickly on your computer - but be careful - if you name them outside of an MPC project the project file might not load correctly or be able to find the right samples. It’s better, although longer/more laborious to do it inside the project in the sample editor.

@worthawatch69816 жыл бұрын
Thanks for replying. I've watched about 5 of your videos in the last day, learning the machine. You've been quite a big help. My machine doesn't have a visual display of the sample in "Program Edit". It has 4 "Sample" screens (yours only has 3), but none of them have that. The first screen has "Layer" with 4 layers + semi, fine, and level for each. Second screen retainns the 4 layers but replaces the other part of the screen with slice, direction and offset. Third retains layers but has pad start and pad end on other part of screen, and fourth retains layers but has pad loop and loop position. The only place I can actually see the sample waveform is in Main - Edit Sample (but here it doesn't seem to want to play the loop the way yours does (I can set loop position [independent of start], but when I hold the pad, it just starts and loops from the loop position (doesn't start from the start position and then loop). So I'm guessing maybe this is a different version of the software?
