That's a struggle everyone goes through when they get a new piece of gear with different functionality and terminology than you're used to. I wish all gear and software had a universal language. I get why they don't though. They want you to learn how to use their stuff and stick with it. It's how these companies make money. Apple does the same shit with computers and phones. Most electronics and software nowadays only come with general instructions. Then they rely on tech geeks to teach us how to use it (no offense to the tech geeks, we appreciate you).

So... Have I got this right? "Sequence" is the actual pattern of samples that form a beat together "Drum program" is basically the set of samples that you load for the beat What is "Track"? Is it just a line of a single sample within the pattern of other samples in the sequence? Like 'Sequence 1' would have a different track for the kick, another for the snare, another for the hat? Thanks for your tutorials and I hope you can help clarify. :)
@TUBEDIGGA6 жыл бұрын
A sequence is the arrangement of notes and events. Tracks host programs and can be switched to the correct mode for the program you wish to use. A sequence can contain up to 128 tracks and any program can be assigned to any track or multiple tracks. A program (drum, clip or keygroup) is basically a container that hosts samples. Midi and cv programs are similar but just trigger external gear.
@TUBEDIGGA6 жыл бұрын
You can use it any way you like - assign all drum sounds to one program on one track, or have the same program on multiple tracks so you have separate note events for each drum sound, or have completely separate programs for each sound on separate tracks. I use multiple workflows depending on where the track takes me. It’s a very flexible environment.

finally after months of frustration and honestly considering moving to different system ( was gonna sell my brand new MPC X as struggled with understanding overwhelming complexity of this weird system ) so - finally someone explains why on heaven I could not hear the overdubbed guitar audio track during recording the song!!! This video tutorial might be the MOST important ( last 6 minutes ) part of understanding why on Akai things just doesn't work as you would expected as they go against the human logic. For guitar player like myself who use always super easy and logically constructed software and mechanical loopers this is a mile stone of learning language of akai. Basically u always overdub but when you plug guitar to quickly add additional sounds you DO NOT OVERDUB but record instead! A secret that Akai hides from you for years and years is now exposed. I asked around so many people and they said they had the same issue so they all said use the sampler/looper to add guitar/ as with MPC X you can oddly only pre-record track and said MPC is rather useless for guitar users. Just because of this stupid little thing that no one knows. Thank you for saving me from selling this machine away.I will try this new trick instead of using sampler only. You should be a tutor for entire Akai official support team as they know literally nothing that goes behind the basic script / couple pages of quick start plug and play basic knowledge.

Your videos are very thorough and super helpful. It's really helped me to hit the ground running with my new MPC X. Question for you: during this example you switched patterns with the data wheel on the fly so you could jump from sequence one to sequence two when demoing your duplication of the drum program where the one was five semitones down. I've noticed that on my MPC X, sometimes when I do that there is an audio crunch and slow down when it jumps to the new sequence. It seems to be fairly random and does not happen all the time. For clarity, when the one sequence stops playing and it jumps into the new sequence it's almost like the CPU sometimes has a hard time handling it on the fly and the audio gets garbled for maybe half a second to a second and then gets back to normal. Is that normal when just jumping between sequences? I'm not talking during heavy lifting either... there are say five different tracks playing sample data? Not a lot of VST's or heavy stuff, some fairly simple programs. I know people talk about some bugs still with MPC live so just curious if that's a common behavior?
@TUBEDIGGA7 жыл бұрын
David Goodale That doesn’t sound great David. I think my Live may have done that once and possibly under heavy strain or running audio tracks. Are you sure everything was totally simple? Or were you also using audio tracks on top? Even so, that shouldn’t be happening as regularly as you stated. Does it occur when you use ‘Next Sequence’ to launch your sequences?
@TUBEDIGGA7 жыл бұрын
David Goodale By the way, you mentioned VSTs, are you using the MPC in controller mode when this happens? In standalone my Live has done this maybe once, but has otherwise been rock solid.

TUBE DIGGA THANK YOU FOR THE TUTORIALS , WHAT IS THE difference BETWEEN THE LIVE AND PMC X? THANK YOU
@TUBEDIGGA5 жыл бұрын
The firmware/operating system is the same but the X has more physical controls and connections. It has CV ports to connect to modular/eurorack synths. It has two additional MIDI out ports (4 total, Live has 2), and 8 audio outputs whereas the Live has 6. The X also has four audio inputs in total (not including the phono inputs for turntables which both devices have) . It also has 2 1/4" instrument ports on the front and two combi inputs at the rear (1/4" + XLR for mics etc). The X also has two foot switch ports on the front. The only advantage the Live has over the X is portability as it has an internal battery that can last up to around 5 hours or so. The X also has a superior build quality in my opinion.

Good question - yes it does, I just tried it and it switches immediately after switching sequences which is great to know! So for example, audio track 1 on sequence 1 can have a completely different audio file on it to audio track 1 in sequence 2 and they will update upon sequence change.

Play and Play Start and the other commands you mentioned are midi mappable but they are global controls, which are currently only available in Controller mode, not standalone. Unless the drum sample pad has a built in sequencer, then you could just set the MPC to receive sync from it.

Ok great, thanks, so I have the SPD SX and the Alesis samplePad 4, to be honest, I'm not sure if either has a built in sequencer, your take?

Is it possible for you to demonstrate using a sample pad sequencer with MPC Live?

Hiram Edwards No, I don’t own any sample pads.

Hi, sorry for asking in a thrread that is possibly the wrong one. Anyway, do you know if there is any way to send trnasport information (midi clock start and stop bytes) without starting the internal sequencer? The problem is that the midi clock of the mpc one is not very stable. I am having a source that is but I would like to control it using the mpc and I am not sure if this is possible.

Hi, I don’t think so. In order for an external device to receive clock I think the MPC needs to be running. I might be wrong but one of my students had this issue recently with their Arturia Microfreak and they could only get the arpeggiator to work if the MPC was running. I might be wrong but that’s what I’ve experienced.

@@TUBEDIGGA thanks for your answer. I am now sending a constant note as gate going into pamelas new workout and syncing ecerything from there including the mpc. The clock is extremely unstable unfortunately. Measured with the scope today. Can post a vid if interested. Ohh and great channel by the way. I went back to breakbeat and jungle after years of tech house and really like the sound you are making while explaining.

Congrats on the 1k! Im not clear on the diff. between copy track and export pattern from track?
@TUBEDIGGA7 жыл бұрын
They are two completely different functions. Exporting patterns exports a file for later use in other projects. Copying a track copies a track and all it’s data to another track within the current project you’re working in.

Hello I just bought a used MPC x and when I turn it on I don’t get the “demo “ screen. Do I need to reset to factory to start a new? I’m brand new to this.

Hi your videos are awesome and really helpful 😁 could you tell me why when I altered the velocity of a couple notes in the Step area, all the other notes disappeared from in the Grid Editor? Now I can't see them or continue editing the sequence on my MPC Live 2... They all play as normal in the mix, but don't show in the Grid now..... I'm stumped 🤔
@TUBEDIGGA4 жыл бұрын
When you’re in the step editor, you need to press and hold shift to select and view a particular pad. Maybe you have selected another pad which you haven’t entered notes for?
@noleftturn59644 жыл бұрын
Awesome thanks! That's what it was, the pads were somehow on the E column and I was just looking around A-B. Much appreciated! 😁👍

Question Inside of MPCX Audio How do you create a Location Marker Points. Just like you would do inside of Protools Making Location Points? Is this possible?
@TUBEDIGGA4 жыл бұрын
gatlinproduction Not sure what you mean by ‘MPCX Audio’ but you have 6 location points available in the ‘Locate’ menu which is situated above the transport controls.
@gatlinproduction4 жыл бұрын
TUBE DIGGA meaning let’s say do you launch a new session and you just put a stereo audio track. All I’m trying to do is make memory location points to jump back and forward to pacific spot in the song what I’m trying to do is Use my software for music video. So I won’t have to start the song over from the beginning each time.
@TUBEDIGGA4 жыл бұрын
gatlinproduction yes that’s what the location points do
@gatlinproduction4 жыл бұрын
Ok I think I made a mistake. I know you can set the location within the MPCX Standalone. I’m trying to use it within the Software only without the MPCX Drum Machine.

Have you found a way to "sort" sequence order? Meaning, to "move" (without have to copy sequence, overwrite, then go back and delete)? Example: Sequence 1 is "Intro", sequence 2 is "Verse A", sequence 3 is "Verse B", and sequence 4 is "Chorus". Now instead, I want to move Chorus to third position (ie go from being sequence 4 to sequence 3), and conversely, have Verse B follow it, essentially swapping places. Currently, I can find no convenient way to achieve this other than the cumbersome sequence menu copy (and clear commands, where necessary). Song Mode can do this, but only as a "pointer" system (assign particular sequences to play in certain order), but within the sequence list itself, the ordinal rank, if you will, remains. Plus Song Mode is fraught with other issues I'd rather avoid.
@TUBEDIGGA7 жыл бұрын
No, this is partially what the song editor is for - one workaround is that you could rearrange/reorder the sequences in the song editor, then export that to a larger new sequence and then delete/erase any bars of that larger sequence. You've also got the 'Next sequence' launcher and test the order of them from there. I know exactly what you mean, it would be nice to not have to leave the main page and have them play in the order you want, but it's a minor hindrance to me personally and the methods above work fine.
@furnacecreek10357 жыл бұрын
Song mode would be perfect (allowing me to essentially "ignore" the sequence order -- I could create them any which way), but it "locks up" the functionality of the MPC for the duration of the song. In other words, I cannot "embellish" by playing the pads, or do other modifications. Song mode is really a "freeze" of sorts, and seemingly ideal for bouncing out the completed song (hence name) as an audio file. The convert-to-sequence is the compromise for me now. But I guess what I'm asking for is dictated by my (desired) workflow. In other words, I play the sequences live, in order, just turning the knob as we go in live performance. It's got a certain degree of structure (the sequence) and a certain degree of spontaneity (I can "rest" on a particular sequence however long I want). We move from sequence to sequence differently each time, in terms of number of loops the sequence plays back, but not sequence of the loops. We go "up and down" the sequence order as the live performance progresses. Not sure if any of this makes sense. It's almost like "clip mode", except need to have everything as drum program/keygroup because we also mute/unmute, mix pads, and again embellish by hitting pads (over "top" the sequence). Anyway, it's just strange there's no "drag and move" feature for sequences, even in the MPC software.
