I live in Melbourne, on the eastern side of Australia. There are some rosetted and upright tuberous sundews that grow in a local park near my house each winter. There must be tens of thousands of them. The upright forms look absolutely glorious in the early morning when the sun highlights their dew.

That must be so magical to see! When the setting sun lights up the greenhouse; it hits all the dewy tuberous sundews so beautifully and Damon and I just stand around and watch it!

I noticed the same dew thickness with my rupicola recently. I was suspecting it was environmental, but I guess not if your plants are doing it too.

Ahhh wonderful, another tuberous sundew lover, great video :) Thanks for all these useful information, I have some of them too, they usual grow in a cold room with artificial light quite good. I always wonder if some of them can be grown over the hot summer,too,but I never tried it. Some do it with D.gigantea, but i dont have this plant yet. I always see that D.tubaestylis retract very fast but D.andersoniana grows still in April or May when its getting hotter (Germany,Europe). But I let them dry and leave them over summer like that until I wet them in Oct/Nov again.

We notice the tubaestylis is one of the first plants to grow in winter and the first to die back as soon as it gets a little warmer. It’s so interesting to see the variability in the tuberous sundews; which ones grow at which points in the winter. The cistiflora come up last!

I know it's been months since this video was published but I would be curious to see how to sow and germinate tuberous sundew seeds. I have had some success with D. hookeri, but would like to see how you go about growing them from seed.

When we sow the seed, I’ll make a video!

Is there any particular variety that is most fragrant? Likewise for pings?
@California_Carnivores8 ай бұрын
There are almost no fragrant pings surprisingly!

I’ve noticed that my ping. esseriana had some fairly fragrant flowers, kind of floral and citrusy like a rose.

Hi Damon a question on substrate mix bog harvesting is banned in Ireland now so what base mix would you recommend I’ve heard 50% 100% peat moss 30% silica sand and 20% perlite would you agree with this as I can’t source spaghnum moss. Thank you
@California_Carnivores3 жыл бұрын
We use a mix of peat moss and sand. It’s about 50/50
