I thought it was closer to 8 litres? Either way, good stuff

The Tucker Torpedo engine is 334.1 cubic inches, and I'm glad you liked it :)
@marcusw.52510 ай бұрын
Well the original Tucker engine was a 589cui or 9.65 liter flat-6 so you were pretty close actually

@@marcusw.525 Lol I just noticed this about 5 months too late XD But yes, the original engine was 589 cubic inches, with hydraulic valves and it needed 24 volts to get going when cars at the time only needed 6. The suspension collapsed because of the truck batteries they stuffed into it to give it the oomph to even start, and the Tin Goose was not road-worthy, so presumably some welds broke under the weight before the car could get on stage. Not a very elegant start to its life :P So he swapped to a helicopter engine, the O-335, and modified them to be water cooled among other things to reach the promises the vehicle promised, like the ultra low idle rpm and big torque. The poor old 589 was sidelined despite Tucker having a reputation for bulling ahead anyways against roadblocks, that's how bad it was, it was said to have sounded horrid and it could only produce 83 horsepower on the engine dyno. Poor engine never had a chance to shine, with 1940s and 50s engine tech.

your youtube link dont work on the catalog
@Avetho Жыл бұрын
I believe that is because the Catalog doesn't seem to support a video frame that isn't a 16-by-9 aspect ratio, so since mine is 21-by-9 it has a playback error.

Doesn't idle easily. Idle mixture not set right? 😅
@Avetho Жыл бұрын
I was aiming for a 100 RPM idle since the real Tucker 48 idled around there, but I'm still learning the many variables involved.
@marcusw.52510 ай бұрын
@@Avetho The Tucker engine idled at 100rpm. The Franklin didn't idle that low. But it probably could with the right tune and stuff but it would top out at 2000 or slightly above that.

@@marcusw.525 You are right in that the Tucker engine is not an O-335, but though the entire engine design was overhauled to its final form sharing very little in terms of factory parts so as to bulletproof it for its rated 150 hours or 18k miles at full throttle, it was still a Franklin O-335 at heart, made beefier and converted wholesale to water cooling. I put Franklin O-335 in the title as that was what the engine started life as and its also a recognizable name to some that may get them interested in researching all about Tucker and his company's history.
@marcusw.52510 ай бұрын
@@Avetho Understood. I just thought that the O-335 still had the same rev range as it did originally. I guess Tucker tuned it to idle that low aswell without causing issues.

180° V6 ???!!!
@Avetho5 ай бұрын
It sure it! 180 degree and flat are interchangeable terms for it, its when the engine has split crank pins that you have to specify that its a boxer engine instead of just a flat or a 180 degree engine, and the Tucker engine was not a boxer, neither the heavily modified O-335 that actually went into the cars, or the sidelined prototype 589ci monster that could barely produce even a meagre 83 horsepower.

Thanks for the info

Also im not gonna put a split crank, i would use a solid crank
