You mentioned giving the disabled, tandem trike flights. I took a quadriplegic gentleman for a flight in my PPC. After we landed he had tears in his eyes. Stated that is was the most feeling of freedom that he had felt, since his accident. Gave me a lump in my throat, too. You'll be giving a great service to others, with that in mind.

Tucker, I have three friends with Trikes. They dearly love them. None with physical limitations. One of them has an enclosed trailer to carry his Trike. It fits perfectly. It has a drop down ramp and he can easily load it by himself. He is an older gentleman also. The trailer also serves as a hangar. I enjoy your channel and have been subbed for a good while. Excellent summary Tucker. My 'trike' is actually a quad - slightly more stable on the ground. I would add a couple 'cons' to 'trikes.' Because of the longer take-off distances, they tend to be more picky about wind direction. Unless your field is spacious in ALL directions, you just might not be able to take off safely if the field does not align with the wind direction. More active piloting required if not taking off DIRECTLY into the wind. Another con is that the added weight requires a somewhat larger wing, which makes the entire rig somewhat less nimble and requires larger control forces. HOWEVER - the pro's are that you create your own wind on a no-wind day, and as you mentioned, T/O is effortless. Another BIG pro with trike/quad is the ability to carry all kinds of gear, accessories, AND FUEL, with no additional effort - a HUGE plus on cross-country. Also, comfort, comfort and comfort. I didn't really perceive the loss of visibility you mentioned. Another HUGE advantage of trikes, at least to me, is the ability to use a heavier, but far more reliable 4-stroke, EFI-fuel-injected, instant electric start, like the one on my Green Eagle. Love my quad! Love your videos - you got me into this!!

from an engineering standpoint, breaking it down into fundamentals, the only thing seperating a trike from a plane would be a fixed wing. so its the logical thing that a trike of course can hold more fuel and such!

Im in training to fly paramotor. I would prefer to foot launch but I have stage 4 terminal cancer and physically can't unfortunately so I'm trying to learn trike. long story about how difficult it can be to get airtime as a disabled person: I remeber this one time when we had at our local airfield a disable passenger for tandem flying. we dont do paramotoring but winch towing with our paragliders, land is completly flat tho, anyway. this girl came to us with her wheelchair over the grassy field, got nearly stuck a few times in sand and finally reached us, preparing for our next launch etc. and she came and was like: I made the whole way over this gras and all and I want to fly to. she told us that it has been a dream of her for so long to go paragliding but the tandem guys in the mountain did not want to take a disable tandem passenger my friend, the tandem pilot, and I came up witht his plan. we called our buddys and somehow managed to get this girl, sitting on the gras in a passenger harness. she wasnt able to walk, or too move her legs etc. she just could not run For winch towing running is kind of necessary eventually and so four of u hold her up at her harness and ran with her, till they were in the air they had a great flight and for the landing we ran next to them till we could grab her before reaching the ground and so we kinda caught her in the air xD it wasn't easy and kinda risky and afterwards we started to think about what stupid thing we have exactly done BUT it was so amazing to see her face when we agreed to tandem fly her. she still visits the airfield from time to time to watch us fly, always smiling and remebering back to her flight. we even cut some of the grassy part to make it easier for her wheelchair

That was very thoughtful and really made her day, but if you had missed her on landing or dropped her on takeoff, and she had been injured there could have been some catastrophic problems. I am glad it all worked out for you.

I am glad you are talking about this. I was in great shape and have been flying, climbing, and skydiving since I was 18. I am only 40 now, but I was in a car accident a couple of years ago and I can't do the things I love anymore. Its been a downer to say the least. I have often thought of becoming a paramotor pilot, but the stigma of flying a trike has held me back as I don't think I could foot launch often if any because of my pain. It makes me happy you are covering this topic! Thank you Tucker!

There’s definitely no stigma for paramotor trike’s… most people won’t even know what it is but you’ll have a lot of people wanting to go for a rides.. people do occasionally make fun of trike’s in the motorcycle community but that’s unrelated

Suggestion in preparing for tandem. Use sand bags as your "passenger" before having someone fly with you. It will get you use to the additional weight without possible having an unsettling situation develop.

I personally don't think that is necessary. I've flown foot launch tandems before which is way more dependent on the passenger than the trike. With the trike, they have zero responsibility, just sit there. That being said, my first tandem will be with Jaclyn because she is the lightest and already an experienced pilot.

I’m lovin the opp to be able to free fly. When I was a kid into my teens I would have ext vivid dreams flying fast over land close to the ground, as I was running my body would lift off just above the ground cruising, I could speed up, I could go into the air, it was such a thrill to do that, but also quite a burden to not be able to talk about it to anyone & not do it real life. The only time I've ever flown in my life was in a trike my uncle owned. Very amazing experience. We had head sets that we didn't adjust the volume before flight and i got so excited when we took off that i almost blew my uncle's ear drums. I would love to do it again.

Tucker, a few years ago I had a back injury which I was able to recover from. I eventually took up foot launching but was always cognizant of the possibility of reinjury. My trike was the answer. Loading up after flying was a problem… which was easily solved. I made my trike able to retract it’s wheels to a narrower base so it fit into my pickup truck. Then mounted a very inexpensive ATV winch at the front of the truck bed. It only takes a few seconds to pull out two motorcycle ramps, hook the cable to the nose wheel and the winch does all the loading work. I even use the winch to safely unload using the same ramps. I have done this for over a year without problem, or back injury! If you have a problem lifting your gear to load or to run with it wheels , a ramp and winch may be your solution!

Tucker, I am following you since you had about 2K followers. Congrat for your success. I have been paramotoring for 5 years now. You have been a great inspiration for me and for many other. Keep going the good work. Now, Trike vs foot lunch: one point you did not adress is the qty of fuel one can carry while triking. I do only foot lunch and as a result, I am limited to apprx 2 hours of flying. I am 62 years old and i weight 220 pounds. If I would do trike lunch I could certainly carry more fluel and As a result, I think I could fly up to 4 hours.

Tucker, been following your vids for a little while. Always educational and fun. I am taking LSA Trike lessons on a Airborne that requires a sport pilot license (you're Private pilot before getting into paramotor?) and you can have a passenger with no issues. It's a lot of fun and slightly more practical for "older" folks like me. (65 and just retired) Speeds are around 65-80 mph depending on the wing. If you haven't flown in one, check it out. It's not as pure as foot launch but you are climbing at 900fpm right from take off. Used ones can be had with four stroke engine for about 20k. 2 stroke are much more affordable. Greeting from Italy! Although I've somehow paused paramotoring for now, due to lack of free time, I've been flying since 2014...and the last few years with the same "flash" trike as you have, with a Vittorazi 180 monster. Besides being 57 and becoming more and more "lazy"😜 as the years go by, another HUGE pro for trikes is the possibility to take-off and mostly land UPWIND... an almost sure recipe for disaster with a traditional paramotor. Keep in mind that here spaces, rules, and regulations are way more restricted and limited than you guys have over there, and T.O. and LZ are few/uncommon here.Keep up the good work man!

If you are going to ceramic coat the propeller, you should use a legit ceramic coating like gtechniq or my personal favorite Cquartz 3.0. I professionally detail cars as a side hobby, and I've always wondered if applying a Silica based spray to your glider would produce desireable effects. You could go ahead and ceramic coat all exterior surfaces on your paramotor, which will fill any micro scratches, and on the microscopic level, it will fill the valleys, and smooth everything down, which in essence should decrease drag, and increase speed. The UV protection alone from the ceramic coating (could extend the life of gliders) is a great feature, but the hyper smooth protection, and hydrophobic properties (along with the glassy glossy finish), makes ceramic coating appear viable in use with paramotors and potentially gliders as well. Edit: Upon further research I found that the ceramic coating would actually crack (as it is brittle) if applied to the glider. That means this is not a product you want on your glider.

I absolute enjoy watching, video commentaries. Awesome! So far me, the 'idea' of flying paramotor or trike paramotoring is still in the observation fantasy phase. I have idea suggestion of trike paramotoring you may like to consider. Perhaps try toting camping gear and go off to remote places camping 24 ~ 48 hour experiences. The trikes paramotor seems like a safe means to carry extra gear for such adventures.

Another reason to fly by Trike is the in-flight food and drinks. This winter, you can take a thermos full of your lovely hot coffee and maybe some munchies to eat mid-flight. Might also be better for carrying thermal suits or heated jackets so the cold is a little more bearable. Speaking of bears - maybe Jaclyn could get a Bear onesie?!

Hey Tucker. I agree with everything you said about the trikes. I wonder if a trailer hitch could be fitted to the trike's nose gear, to allow it to be toed, without having to heft it onto a truck. Of course, that means fitting a tag, and break/turn signals to, so, may be a bit of a bother? Not sure. Just a thought, to ease logistics, a bit. Thanks for the video.

I’ve been flying trikes (WSC-the original trike) for quite a while. The performance is fantastic, but would upset anyone observing in the park, and would be asking for trouble. It’s more like flying a motorcycle, and I use electric fleece liner in the winter (available at any motorcycle shop). Works fantastic, even in Colorado.

About transporting the trike: There are trikes that can be hooked to the tow hitch of a car for transporting on the street. No (un)loading required at all. E.g. the Fresh Breeze XCitor. In other words: They are flying car trailers. :-)

Hey Tuck, you are correct on the instruction part, but only if you charge money. I’m pretty sure you have a PPL. With that said, you can fly anyone who wishes to fly with you, as long as you’re not compensated. If you don’t have a PPL, you are obligated to your organization’s policy which was “negotiated with the FAA” (as an exemption to 103). A courtesy call to your local FSDO, would bear good news (I’m quite sure). Had this very discussion with my FSDO 6 months ago.

h03 rotaxi young man,yea ive flown trikes a lot.i owned my own blue heron 503 rotax two passenger trainer.i have never tryed foot launch para moters.you bring up some good points about the ease of launch of the paramotors.how ever im in my 60s now so it seems much easier for me to use hands free ride than to have to control the flight with my arms .i dont know it just seems to much to deal with.oh well i moved to southeast asia in thailand a few years back.i see both machines here in country.i thought about bringing my machine here but its hard to get permission to fly here.back home in maine i had no problem flying back in the early 2000 ends.ive heard the rules have changed a lot now.back then i used to fly out of my field beside my house.i could fly anywhere i wanted except within 10 miles of a magor city.i sure miss flying and wish i would have kept my machine.here in this country the weather is perfect for flying most days.oh well keep up the great vidios i love to watch.hopefully you will show some trike flights.

Though the trike would be convenient in some ways, I’m going to go for foot lunch! Can’t wait to hit my savings goal and go to Aviator for trading. Though it’s going to take a long time since both my furloughed jobs don’t have the need for me due to Covid-19. I’m hoping to be hired at some point soon in the future. Really rough going from $38 hr to unemployment. I have faith and through life experience figure if I stay positive, keep a smile and keep this goal, eventually I’ll be able to “ Run into the Sky” like my childhood dream. I would really love to see a longer trip with the trike. My amateurish thinking is that it would make longer ranges much easier. beyond the ability to carry more fuel more easily, you can also throw a bag or other gear in the front seat. Mounts for GPS, and other instruments are an obvious bonus. But one big one would be ground range. You always have to carefully pick your landing zones and hiking with your motor and gear is such a major pain in the... legs... However with the trike you could taxi to a gas station to re-fuel, then taxi to a hotel. In the morning you could taxi out to a more ideal place to take off. It seems like it would make a longer trip much more pleasant. Toss a couple of pieces of polycarb in front of your face and over your legs and even cold weather may be less of an issue. Would love to hear your thoughts Tukker, otherwise happy motoring!

Another benefit of the trike is you can handle a little more wind and it is slightly faster being heavier. I have a tandem Destiny trike.

Actually, you can handle more wind foot launching. Because, you can reverse launch.

@@duanetschmidt not really talking about launching but I would disagree on that as well. The more weight you have the more stable it flies. That's my experience anyway, l believe physics would support that. Maybe I'm all wrong, I just know I enjoy flying trikes more but definitely has some cons.

Steve Lehman A more heavily loaded wing can penetrate high winds better. But, that is a matter of wing loading. So, yes a trike will add weight - all else being equal. Speedbar and trims out can also help penetrate as it changes the angle of attack. I don’t think trike pilots normally use speedbar unless they have some unusual type of rigging in place. However, in high wind launches a trike is at risk of turtling. Foot launch has a huge advantage on high wind launch.

Hi Tucker, great videos ! You have viewers from around the world so it might be worth mentioning that the fact you don't need a different licence to fly trikes is possibly specific to the US. I'm fairly sure that in the UK you need a microlight licence for anything with wheels :( Keep up the great videos and I'm glad you let people know it's not as easy as you make it look !

You could make a 4-wheels frame for the paramotor, which would allow to touch down with your foot to push it, but not enough that you can't run with it. Think of an upside down V viewed from each side of your body (front, back, left right), with one wheel on each arm.

With the increased cargo capacity of a trike if you could open up some interesting options carrying more fuel or food. You could go airfield hopping at the very least. In some regions of the country I would think roads are good enough and quiet enough to land and launch from opening up overnight or multi-day trips.
