The TUDOR Black Bay 58 is named after the year in which the first TUDOR divers’ watch waterproof to 200 metres, the reference 7924, dubbed the “Big Crown”, was introduced. Among other aesthetic allusions to this famous historic watch, this model has a 39mm diameter case, in keeping with the characteristic proportions of the 1950s. The watch is the perfect match for a GMT function, and with the Black Bay 58 GMT, the jet-setter’s ultimate function comes with a touch of mid-century elegance. The bezel is burgundy and black with a gilt 24-hour scale, keeping with the general design language of the Black Bay line. The design is reminiscent of a time when TUDOR divers' watches were first being made and jet planes were moving through times zones and delivering interlopers to destinations they could only dream of, faster than ever before. Finishing gilt touches have been applied to the hour markers, hands, and hour markers of the bicolour bezel. With the introduction of this brand-new Black Bay 58 GMT, TUDOR has successfully submitted yet another model for tests to obtain Master Chronometer certification. This is part of a constant bid to improve the quality of its products and another step towards a future where the entire TUDOR collection will be Master Chronometer certified. This certification, offered by a Swiss government body, METAS, requires a substantial number of changes to a regular TUDOR Manufacture Calibre and comes as an independent confirmation of the exceptional quality of the TUDOR watches.
COMPREHENSIVE INDEPENDENT CERTIFICATION AND HIGH STANDARDS
METAS Master Chronometer certification is comprehensive and covers the main functional characteristics of a watch including precision, resistance to magnetic fields, waterproofness and power reserve. Its standards are incredibly high, starting with precision. In order to qualify, a watch must be able to function within a 5-second range of variation each day (0/+5), that is to say 5 seconds less than the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) (-4/+6) carried out on a single movement and a second less than TUDOR's internal standard (-2/+4), which is applied to the brand's models with a Manufacture Calibre. The certification also guarantees the timekeeping accuracy of a watch subjected to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss. Finally, it also guarantees the waterproofness claimed by the manufacturer as well as the power reserve. It should also be noted that two prerequisites are necessary before the certification can be obtained: Swiss manufacturing must conform with the criteria of Swiss Made, and the movement must be certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).

The perfect GMT travel watch. Not too big so comfortable when traveling. Master Chronometer, T Fit Clasp. I can actually get one, unlike the Rolex GMT. If i had the Rolex GMT i would be too scard to wear it anywhere. Yes the Rolex will gain greater value. But if i leave the $ i save invested i will be way a head. Again i would not be afraid to wear this during my travels. The Rolex GMT would be left in the safe at home.

I prefer the original snowflake seconds hand and the 41mm size. I have a BB GMT, a Pepsi and a Sprite. Don't need the lollipop seconds hand on the Tudor. Bought it because it had differences there. A slimmer BB GMT Pepsi would be nice.

The gilt numerals on the bezel will fade. In fact, I’m surprised how much they fade. I’ve daily worn a BB58 for about 4 years and the gilt numerals on the bezel has completely faded to silver. I didn’t even really notice it until the BB54 came out with silver markings, and I looked down at my BB58 and I was like, well these are silver too!

I own the original BB GMT since 3 years ago (41 mm.). I bought it on bracelet brand new. Everything works perfectly, it's in perfect condition and because I have a big wrist, sits perfectly on it and by the way, I don't have any problem with the thickness. After 3 years I loved. The ne GMT 58, have better specifications, also the t-fit bracelet but on the other hand, I don't like the gilt on bezel, markers and hands. Besides, I prefer "Pepsi" bezel over the "coke" , but is just my opinion because for sure, it's a great watch and Tudor is going to sell a lote of them. I own as well the BB Heritage (41 mm.) and in this case, I'm thinking to swap it for the new monochrome. Many thanks for sharing.

Awesome video. I hated the press release photos of it because I thought that the numerals on the bezel had faux patina but your video has it having more of a gilt which makes me a lot more interested. I’m still on the fence about adding it to the collection since I’ve been a diehard BB Pro user since its release. Hopefully they release one on the five link bracelet in the future. I’m definitely going to try it on when I’m in a town with an AD.

It seems to me Tudor was given the nod from Rolex to retro the vintage GMT as unlike the Submariner, Tudor officially never released a equivalent 1950's GMT to the 6542.

I meant the OEM rubber strap - so the width of the GMT center link would need to be the same as the BB58’s metal bracelet center link to fit in the gap of the BB58 endlink. I’d guess the GMT’s endlinks won’t fit on the standard BB58 as the case is a bit different. But we‘ll find out in a few weeks, I‘m sure 😊

This is a surprising release, the pepsi imo is a near perfect watch, I like how they made this one different however tthe things I don't like: The crown and bezel should be gilt like the root beer The bracelet, and rubber strap (those end links are awful) is underdesigned, it should be jubilee or have a 2 tone option The pips are too small The text is too long

Sorry but I do have to disagree! It is the only really relevant certification nowadays… Why? Magnetic 🧲 fields are the enemy number one of mechanical wristwatches…

For the average consumer, such stringent standards for magnetic resistance and accuracy may not be practically necessary. Everyday activities rarely expose watches to magnetic fields intense enough to require this level of protection.

Tudor should have, imo, made it 40mm and updated the entire BB GMT line to the new size, thickness, and new movement.
