Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT Review: Tudor’s Almost Perfect Watch

It is an almost perfect watch. Dimensions are spot on, adjustability is great and accuracy is very good. Mine runned at around 0-0,5 sec per day. But my date wheel broke after around 2 months. It got stuck between 2 dates and after a bit of spinning it changed date around 11:50pm instead of the usual 3 mins past 12, which was weird. Then after another few spins it worked normal again. Contacted my AD and they advised me to return and apply for repair under warranty. It’s been 5 weeks and still haven’t got it back. Hopefully I get it back soon, really looking forward to see it again in person. Very nice and elegant Tudor watch!

You get what you pay for. Tudor is, and always has been, the poor man’s Rolex. If you want top quality and reliability, get a Rolex. Tudor is not a substitute.

I picked one up a month or so ago and it hasnt left my wrist. If you dont like the gilt, this isnt the watch for you, but I personally love it. Will be interesting to see what new colorways Tudor releases in the coming years!

Not surprised by the QC, my Black Bay has paint from the text on the dial and my father's Pelagos had the lume fall out of the bezel. With mine you can really only see the dial issue under a loupe and sure its under warranty and they would fix it, but honestly, not worth the trouble. I just wish for the money you're spending, they'd do a better job. This one is not for me, never did like the Coke colorway and I'm not a fan of GMTs but I do think its a really nice watch if that's your thing. Great review as always, the best on YT and I watch a lot of watch reviews.

@@Nefville lume falling out of the bezel is crazy but I’ve seen it do the rounds online. Thankfully I haven’t had much issue qc wise until this one. Not a big gmt fan either but if the watch is pretty and happens to have a gmt, I’ll allow I haha. Keep enjoying your black bay! Not much reason to need this when you already have one of its brothers. All your "cons" are aesthetic, so I think considering that, the watch is impressive. This was my grail for 2024 and after trying it on last week, I am sad to say I have to find a new grail GMT. The gilt was too much for me and even though it's thin, the slab sides make it look tall on my super flat wrist. Still an INCREDIBLE watch.

Most luxury watches aren’t built to a bad standard, so it becomes design choice and aesthetic that differentiate. Surprised even this case felt thick. Hard to find a much thinner gmt!

I think I'd prefer a more rounded Yachtmaster case profile vs the slab sided Sub look. My favorite feature is the "puffy" dial printing. Very premium looking. As always I enjoyed every minute of your review! Thank you.

The design of the Tudor clasp is that you are supposed to hold the outer sides with two fingers and pull to open it. It is extremely easy to open it in that way. I owned 5 Tudor watches, and I think I learned this from Bruce Williams channel back in 2020.

I'm fortunate to have several Tudor watches, including the BB 58 GMT. Of all the watches, this one is on my wrist the most by far. It's not too big, not to heavy, not to tall and it's beautiful!! I love the look of the watch and even after owning it for a few months I still find myself looking at it just to admire the watch.

I have four Tudors and now I would never buy a watch without a Tfit. I love leather straps but a bracelet has to have a Tfit. I bought the BB41 and opaline gmt and those two didn’t have Tfit at the time in 2023. I put both a Zealande rubber strap with deployment clasp. Expensive but works great. Zealande custom made for those two Tudor watches

Excellent and very comprehensive review. The QC on your watch was not good. I'm wearing my BB58 while I watch this - I have the OG, black/gilt. Mine is perfect under a loupe and I love the snowflake hands combined with the classic Submariner-style hour indices. Much easier to tell the time than my Sub. I greatly prefer wearing my 58 to my ceramic Sub - and my 58 is a strap monster. It looks superb on a black rubber tropic, an FKM dark red, a dark brown leather strap and a jubilee bracelet. Cheers!

Stunning watch. I went back and forth between this one and the chrono. Ultimately I went with the chrono as I thought the gilt wouldn't be the best long term fit for me. I like it now but maybe not so much years from now. It's probably my favourite watch on the market currently though. Although if I received a watch with a handset like this one I'd be returning it. Absolutely not acceptable for a watch at this price point. Thankfully my chrono is absolutely perfect on the QC.

I am a Heritage Diver guy but I'd definitely group this into one of Tudor's collectibles. I can see myself owning this alongside a Rolex sub or an explorer. This 58 GMT is very nostalgic and why the hell do watch afficionados consider gold vintage? It is just gold, yes it was present in vintage watches but it does not have to be classed as a copy cat. In my opinion, the 58 GMT can now be differentiated from the dive watch line. Yes, Tudor have issues with their hands, I noticed the gold finishing on the hands for the last heritage black bay was not fully coated around the hands. In my opinion, if it were my watch, I'd return it to get the issue fixed.

@@AndrewIsbell unfortunately I’ve never handled it on the rubber strap but I imagine the hint of metal will make it feel more like it belongs there. Another person commented they prefer it on the rubber so there’s definitely a reason they make it that way

Nice review! A question: why do you think the movement is not in-house? It's manufactured by Kenessi that's owned by Tudor. Also, it is possible to see how much you are adjusting the bracelet on the fly. The underside of the clasp has 4-5 little grooves that tell you how much you've extended it.

@@TheWatchOut it’s more just a technicality. I guess you could say it’s in house but from what I understand there’s potential that Kenissi was owned and then purchased by Wilsdorf foundation. Chanel owns a 20% stake too. So it feels to me more like Tudor bought something to make it more in house. The fact they share movements like the b01 also makes me feel like it’s a less in house affair. For all we know they could be outsourced screws or oils or what not. Very few places are fully in house because it’s hard to do. But realistically in house doesn’t mean good quality. Just means one person controls it all and could potentially make an inferior product. At the end of the day who cares if the movements good haha. And true on the micro adjust but I typically am not taking it off and flipping it over to watch what hole the micro adjust is flowing into. Personally feels like an awkward way to handle the watch.

maybe its just me, but ive always found tudors claps very easy to pull out. don't use that top part, it's hard that way as you stated, but just pull it from the side. Only takes a flick of your index finger and pops right off.

I came to comment and say this same thing! I just pinch both sides with my thumb and index finger and it comes right open, both on the folding lock and actual clasp. I’m sure that’s the intended way to open it. Great video btw 👌

Also, this is considered the first GMT Master Chronometer for Tudor. That's a milestone achievement in their history. 50 to 70 years from now people will crave for this piece because of its "first" for the brand. Same goes with the red bezeled first master chronometer black bay. People call it also the iron man. I cant wait to see patina'd version of these in years to come.

My LHD , Pro BB Heritage “Burgundy” and “Pepsi” all keep awesome time only the Pro is 3 seconds faster 😊 Master or not it’s nothing special wish Tudor have more dial colours on their dials plus brush cases as well remove or give option rivets or no rivets… few more years bet they start out on the magnifier on the date 😂! Man enjoy the watch it’s a Tudor no gold or platinum, diamonds bla bla ! Plus hope prices don’t start sky rocket 🚀 like Omega it’s a steel a Seamaster cost 12 k the anniversary Bond edition or even the speedmaster 5 years ago was 3500 € now it’s double 😳the manual hesalite model should have bought it but at time had other priorities now only pre-owned hope this vibe goes down plus Dealers used to make nice discount’s now it’s “fashion” have a automatic/mechanical watch…. Since was boy earn my first cash bought some cool watches unfortunately had some “bad friends/chief’s ” took all my watches even some nice DuPont lighter’s given from my dad …. Now always on the fence wearing expensive items world is crazy they kill you for few thousand even lesss … Man remove that white rubber strap put a black tropical old school on !

Speaking as someone who prefers ETA movements, on Tudors and otherwise, your claim that this movement isn’t truly in-house is completely mistaken. The movements are designed by Tudor and built in their factory. Yes they let Chanel own a tiny stake in the movement operation but the controlling interest is HWF and it all happens under their direction. They let these companies use a Kenissi name but Tudor is very clear even when giving factory tours that the movement operation is part of Tudor. This is actually more “in-house” than Rolex’s movement operation! Rolex movements come from Aegler, with whom Rolex eventually got an exclusivity contract, but was its own completely separate company still owned by its founders beyond that until Rolex very recently bought them, bringing it officially under the Rolex umbrella. In contrast, Tudor’s movement division was built from the ground up by HWF, most likely to try to take over some of the space left in the market by ETA’s exit.

But just because something can costs millions of dollars, doesn’t mean there doesn’t exist a lower boundary where it’s relatively as good as it’ll get and anything more leads to diminishing returns. Grand Seikos don’t have these imperfections and start at 2k, I’ve had Christopher wards that have better handsets and those are usually around 1k, I’ve had timex who have had better handsets. This is a qc issue and rougher than should be expected than really anything over 500 dollars

Having a poor man's Rolex is better than being a poor man with a Rolex. That said, I'd say that about 50% of Rolex buyers are well to do. Worse than that...I assume that most "Rolex buyers" are buying fakes or are faking being rich. But that's just me and I'm sure a few will be impressed.

Rolex, Lambos, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and can all be faked. Real wealth is when someone has lived in their home for over 5 years in a $2 million home and the deed is in their name. I drive a luxury car. So what! I'm not rich. I got it for a great deal. I don't try to fool anyone. I didn't buy it to try to look rich. I bought because I like it.
