You would think the dowager duchess would have run a much tighter ship considering that she was responsible for these teenagers

I think it was more of a way for her to make money tbh.

I think she was an abused child, used and abused and then murdered when no longer wanted. Sadly, some evils in life carry on, and are still happening today. May the poor child rest in peace.

Most historians hold that it is more likely that she was sexually abused by her tutor rather than a willing sexual partner and that she was depicted as having been promiscuous at such a young age as an excuse for Henry to do away with her because of his jealousy and lack of sons borne by her.

Actually... Most historians *don't* hold that. Including Gareth Russell, in his recent & widely-acclaimed bio of Catherine, which is quoted here. One author, Retha Warnicke, put forward the abuse theory, & it's been absolutely leapt on by the public, but among historians it's not widely accepted at all.

Hi, I don't mean anything rude by this comment, I was just genuinely curious. I saw a comment on this video claiming Katherine Howard was abused and you replied saying the age of consent was 12 back then and that the original comment was judging by modern standards. I think the original comment was deleted so I couldn't reply on that chain, but I was just going to ask why you thought judging by modern standards was bad? I mean, there was a time when slavery and rape were considered acceptable, but that doesn't really give us the right to defend slaveowners and rapists. I understand the ideas of right and wrong have changed a lot over the years but I was just wondering what you thought.

It's unfair to hold people of the past to the standards of today. Any historian will tell you that you cannot judge by modern day standards or ideals. We can't even begin to fathom what it was like to live a day in their shoes. Their worlds revolved around religion - not the case for most of the world now. Things that were completely acceptable then, are not acceptable today - but that doesn't mean that they were bad people.

@@TudorsDynasty Thanks for replying. I'm not entirely sure if I agree but that's a valid point.

I think she was abused. She never stood a chance. She was rich pickings for anyone to trap and had no way to defend herself.

I feel like Kathryn could of been the Queen England needed, she herself wasn't political and she was a cheerful, kind young girl.
