What an awesome day for everyone! Fishing is not catching but you still get the adrenaline rush. Lots of great tips from better anglers than me but we usually have three lines staggered and a spin rod ready in case of chasers. Keep positive and your success rate will increase as you learn by doing. Thanks for all the action and that octopi was digging all the attention. Happy days.

The color changing ability of the octopus is really cool. I had no idea they had that big of a range. Thanks for the video!

To add to what others have said, after snatching the rod tip up 2 or 3 good yanks, try to slow the boat down some if possible. 5-6 knots on a hooked fish will make the hook hole enlarge allowing the fish to head shake or change direction and get off the hook.

Fishing poles bend to be the shock absorber. You will never lose a fish when the tip is up and flexed. When you dip the pole and point it at the fish the tension drops and the fish can spit it out. TIP UP always! Reel with the tip up.

Thanks for this great episode. Looks like you all had a great day even if the fish did not cooperate. Interesting to see that cautious octopus!

The main thing when fishing is make sure all the lines are out of the water when you have one on the line because when the lines cross it creates friction and breaks through the line or weakens the fishing line which will cause a fish getting away either because of a broken line or whatever so as soon as you get one online real the other ones in you'll have more success

Sharpen your hooks prior to fishing trip and yank the rod 2 or 3 times to really set the hook JT 🇺🇸🐟🎣🛥🌴⛱😃😊🙏🏻
@petenaylor13534 жыл бұрын
AAH the dreaded spotted wahoo! I love fishing for pelagics. Stagger your lures, set the drags to 25% of line weight, if you are catching cudas go deeper, if you get a hit but no hookup go freespool for 4 seconds. Tight lines! Cool shot of the octopus....they are so interesting.
@ashleywynn49234 жыл бұрын
Agreed Only thing I’ll add is sometimes fish will mouthed the bait as in they hit it on instinct but not necessarily hungry so when you are constantly losing them, allow them to take it longer hence the 4 second suggestion. Little more explanation is that they are just holding it in their mouth.

For Wahoo up your speed as little if able. Around 8 knots. Sharp hooks are a must and never stop reeling. They have a very hard head and will get off if you stop reeling. Tight line all the time. Don't pump the rod, just keep the tip up and reel.

Excellent content! Definitely love the octopus, very smart invertebrates. If you ever get your lines Tangled all you have to do is let some line out and let the boat do the work the lines will untangle. Why, I couldn't tell you a wise Bahamian told me that years ago. If you had a smallish downrigger you could get a little lower in the strata hopefully catch wahoo or other pelagic species. So fun to watch!

I’ve watched you try to reel in fish, it I’ve never seen you try to set the hook. A large strong fish can bite a bait or lure and never let it slide close to the hook. All it has to do is open its mouth during a light pressure moment and it’s gone. Free! Free at last. Set the hook like you hate the fish. It catches a lot more you can eat that way. Fishing is fun. Catching is better. Eating them is best! Thank you for sharing your youth. God Bless & Fair winds

Your doing everything wrong! Don't pull and then reel the slack. You have to keep the hook pressure in the fishes mouth constant. " You have to Reel slow and steady without pulling the rod back and forth. BIG Mistake. You have to bring him in slow and steady. He feels and reacts to the different pulls that you the rod holder causes. Just reel him in slow and steady --- mellow. good luck.

I am really upset with you guys! After what happened to Jetti last time one would think you would learn your lesson, But obviously you have not. There is NO reason to leave a dog unattended in a dingy in open waters, there are just so many bad things that can happen. I don’t care if had he his life jacket on or not, it’s still not safe. And it is so selfish, the only reason you do it is because it makes YOU feel good. You don’t have to feel bad leaving him behind on the boat, you are risking Jetti’s life so you can feel happy. You said last time we will never leave the dingy together when we go into the water, here you have three people and you still can’t leave one person with jetti in the dingy. Reminds me when you are in the middle of something bad and you start praying to god that you will never do this again if he gets you out safely. Then a short time later you do the same thing again. And I don’t want to hear the excuses. He had a life jacket on, we were not far from shore, it wasn’t deep bla bla bla..just STOP doing it!
@charliecruzen33944 жыл бұрын
Stop reeling the fish in like a made-for-tv movie. You're pumping that fish Pole like catching thousand pound tuna TV movie. Keep the tip up high so you don't go Slack. Fish rod is a shock absorber. When you slack the line and pull it up you're jerking a hook out of the mouth. No need to pump the fishing pole you have a reel to bring the line in with. Set the drag on a reel properly to bring the line in. Never point the rod tip at the fish keep the tip up and real the line in. No fishing pole pumping you'll never catch a fish Just Fish lips. LOL
