I was there 20yrs ago and looooved it, camped on the beach, but not sure I if it will be too busy for me now. I saw you went to Puerto Viejo, CR too. If you had to choose, which place did you enjoy more? I like that Puerto Viejo is beside the beach, I love being in the town, not hotel zone, but love rainforest + beach together, that’s what makes Mayan Riviera and Costa Rica so amazing. Another fantastic video William. Tulum has it all; nice hotels, chill vibe, great food, history, and some of the best beaches anywhere. I agree with what you said, it’s going to develop in the coming years with more hotels, hopefully they’re small boutique hotels like they currently are. At least that way it retains its charm.

I live in Tulum and I would say you have captured the place very well. One thing you probably should know is that the area that you thought would be full of hotels in 10 years is a national park so they will not be allowed to construct large hotels in that zone. Furthermore, even in the green areas near the beach where there are no hotels and which is not zoned as a national park, there are extremely rigid restrictions for building. For example, close to the ocean you can only build on a small percentage of the land, leaving most of the land and nature untouched. The main reason why is to keep the Mangroves which are instrumental in keeping the beach intact. If you ever come back, shoot me message and I will give you some local gems that are a bit less touristy.. ;-)

I live in Yucatan. Some people risk going to public places now. Personally, I think it is too early to ride buses or go where others might get too close or not wear masks, Yucatan has a very high rate of COVID infections. We are still in the first wave.

The borders are open but a LOT of businesses are closed. We are still very much dealing with Covid and we just went from an orange to a red zone pandemic-wise. That said, we are seeing tourists mainly from the states.

Land borders are still closed so you can’t drive into Tijuana for example but flights are operating between US & MX and many European countries as well (a friend of mine living in the Netherlands is flying in the end of August and just bought her flight).

William Taudien Our beaches are backed by very dramatic mountains covered in lush tropical jungle and forest. Almost a Tahití look in that regard. But our sand is not as white and fine grained and our water is not as clear. So far we have never had any sargasso problem at all. Fingers crossed.

The forest here is very tall and dramatic, almost a Jurassic Park feel. If you drive a very short way into the mountains the forest changes to small oak and then to large pines and trout steams as you gain altitude. The mountains just off the coast reach almost 9,000 feet in places so there are many climate and vegetation zones within a short drive.

There are coffee shops and cafes along the Beach of Tulum also but mostly hotels and resorts. The hotels have beach clubs you can enjoy sitting at in nice chairs and seats. Thanks for watching!

Tulum is located in an area of Mexico better known as the Yucatan Peninsula, it is very easy to get here from Cancun and Playa del Carmen. I would recommend no less than $60 per day per person for your daily Tulum budget.
