There are only two reasons to adapt or remake a story. It's either because you think that the story has a good idea but didn't follow through with it and you could do better, or because you love the story don't want to change anything and want to tell it again to as many new people as possible. For whatever reason all of the remakes that we've gotten from TV and movies has been the first one even though the things that they're remaking are already really good. I think it's only games that have done the second one where they don't actually want to redo anything They just want to make it updated to the modern era so that as many people can play them.
@animefan-ji8rd

The first reason is why Manos: The Hands of Fate needs to be remade. There is a good movie hiding in that concept's skin, just waiting to be lovingly eviscerated by Sam Raimi.
@RelativelyBest
@RelativelyBest 4 ай бұрын
I think adaptions are generally fine, as long as they're made by people with basic respect for the source material. There's nothing wrong with translating a work from one medium to another, because watching a movie isn't the same thing as reading a book or playing a video game or whatever - the act of adapting the work is itself transformative, and will involve other forms of art. Even movies and stage plays are quite different experiences. Plus, it can help the original work to reach more people. As for remakes, I wouldn't say they necessarily have to be improvements on the original, especially since stories that get remakes were for the most part very popular and successful in the first place. Rather, the remake should bring something new to the story - a different perspective, theme or interpretation that makes you view it in a different way. A great example is Final Fantasy VII Remake, since it isn't just a modernized take on the original game: It not only makes changes to the plot but those changes are actually part of the story and theme, and knowing the original story enhances the experience of playing the new one.
@Saga_Anserum
@Saga_Anserum 4 ай бұрын
Disagree with the second reason. Even if it is a story you love, it can`t really be the exact same. In a new medium, though, you can highlight certain parts of it. The LOTR movies changed quite a bit, but were still clearly made by people who loved the story.

0:10 no... Like, that's actually too good For example, twin swords like that, one being handled by a veteran that while fighting lost their dominant arm, and seeing the sword that they got, wanting to have another chance, a phantom arm appears, grabbing the sword, and making them the new owner of the weapon And a teen, that after not being strong enough to pull his sister up when she fell from a cliff, (while she decided to accept fate and telling him to help their younger sister she stops holding his hand, falling) After a while still blaming himself for it, the hand that was holding her being pitch black, completely unusable, and from time to time attacking him, until one moment, his sister is in danger and he remembers what his older sister really said, she didn't blame him, she just didn't want him to find the same fate, and to help their younger sister, since she wouldn't be able to And with that realization the (second) sword gets out of the place it was stored, while the first was basically used as a test, the second was just stored, "no one can use it, so why bother" (Later the two new users of the twin swords could also meet up and be a mentor and disciples kind of found family)

2:10 see here’s what I’d like to call the “Aperture labs testing phenomenon” which actual science people call “wanting new stimuli”. Avatar is an amazing show and should be watched by everyone. However, you can only watch it a certain amount of times before you don’t like watching it anymore. You gotta either have amnesia or wait a few years to where you’ve forgotten most of it for it to be enjoyable to watch again. A live action version (ignoring how good or bad it will be) is something different which makes it ‘watchable’. Or you can just really like things and watch the original over and over again.

Pro tip: if you can't find a source flr a claim in an essay or something similar, jjst cite a source that has a paywall, so your professor either has to accept it as is, or pay for the article. Especially effective if you cite several paywalled sources.

My god, I absolutely vibe with that post about live-action remakes. There is no point to them. It doesn't matter how accurate it is to the original, it will ALWAYS be an inferior product because it's trying to emulate a medium with MUCH more artistic freedom to it. Unless it's like...a romance series with very little in terms of gags or other exaggerated reactions, it's just not gonna work.

0:10 John Dies At The End already did that. Also the title or the movook.... bovie? Is wrong. Book's a good mystery horror comedy. Movie's a good horror comedy.

I don’t mind remakes if it’s “we’re taking the core story and we’re twisting.” Like a rubriks cube. It can always look different. For example, Batman. I don’t mind how many live action Batman’s there are, because they all do their own the thing. Campy 80s Batman, Nolan’s psychological study using preexisting characters, Reeves realistic take, and Gothams examination of what the childhood of someone who grew up to be Batman would look like. None of these look at Batman the same way, and as a result tell very different stories, even if it’s the same starting point. I honestly want a live action Batman that uses Gothams backstory. I want a grown up Batman and Catwoman who were childhood friends and first loves, who are broken hearted and know things can’t work but still trust each other to the marrow, which too rare a thing to let go of. Avatar is not that. It’s fucking immaculate, and I cannot imagine any change that will improve it in any capacity. That’s not a rubriks cube, that’s the hope diamond. Twist it all you want, it’s still the hope diamond. Now put it down and don’t break it.

"They weren't in a relationship, but they're definitely exes now"? One of my stories has Captain of the Guard Aesis and freelance mercenary swordsman Lance, and at first things seem fine. Aesis is brusque with everyone. And she's already being rude as heck towards the main characters, so her showing nothing but disdain for Lance isn't that rude. Maybe it's because Lance is the only one who calls her "Aesis" after she did a big thing about "Call me 'Captain Aesis', or just 'Captain', but NOT just 'Aesis'." Except she doesn't jump down his throat for it. Then Lance talks about having been in a relationship with someone (but doesn't name her), but it didn't work out, because "I wanted to keep her safe, so I treated her like she wasn't a capable fighter, and she felt I was insulting her. She wasn't interested in the wandering lifestyle, anyway." And then during a huge fight, Aesis gets wounded, and Lance screams her name, the first and only time he's shown actual worry/fear/panic. Yeah, they're definitely exes. ^_~ (Honorable mention goes to Professor Dweli and the mage Elimaio, who were exes where it ended REALLY BADLY, but Elimaio dies in the first chapter and Dweli isn't introduced until about chapter 9.)

It got an ok movie adaptation too. (Although honestly it felt more like a failed pilot and the first two episodes reworked into a movie than an actual movie)
