I know there's an actual book where this is a plot point, but I can't remember the title. I don't think it was a sword, but it was some kind of spirit object that only one of the characters could use because she was an amputee with PLS.

There are only two reasons to adapt or remake a story. It's either because you think that the story has a good idea but didn't follow through with it and you could do better, or because you love the story don't want to change anything and want to tell it again to as many new people as possible. For whatever reason all of the remakes that we've gotten from TV and movies has been the first one even though the things that they're remaking are already really good. I think it's only games that have done the second one where they don't actually want to redo anything They just want to make it updated to the modern era so that as many people can play them.
@animefan-ji8rd
@animefan-ji8rd 7 ай бұрын
no, there is a third reason (and maybe a fouth, but its kinda linked into the third). we want to profit more from this IP and/or need to renew our licence for it.
@RoseKindred

@@animefan-ji8rd The last part is why Ghost Rider 2 became, well, what it did. They had to make something or lose the license. So it was a scramble, complicated with multiple directions and cancelations.

The first reason is why Manos: The Hands of Fate needs to be remade. There is a good movie hiding in that concept's skin, just waiting to be lovingly eviscerated by Sam Raimi.
@RelativelyBest
@RelativelyBest 7 ай бұрын
I think adaptions are generally fine, as long as they're made by people with basic respect for the source material. There's nothing wrong with translating a work from one medium to another, because watching a movie isn't the same thing as reading a book or playing a video game or whatever - the act of adapting the work is itself transformative, and will involve other forms of art. Even movies and stage plays are quite different experiences. Plus, it can help the original work to reach more people. As for remakes, I wouldn't say they necessarily have to be improvements on the original, especially since stories that get remakes were for the most part very popular and successful in the first place. Rather, the remake should bring something new to the story - a different perspective, theme or interpretation that makes you view it in a different way. A great example is Final Fantasy VII Remake, since it isn't just a modernized take on the original game: It not only makes changes to the plot but those changes are actually part of the story and theme, and knowing the original story enhances the experience of playing the new one.
@Saga_Anserum
@Saga_Anserum 7 ай бұрын
Disagree with the second reason. Even if it is a story you love, it can`t really be the exact same. In a new medium, though, you can highlight certain parts of it. The LOTR movies changed quite a bit, but were still clearly made by people who loved the story.

0:10 no... Like, that's actually too good For example, twin swords like that, one being handled by a veteran that while fighting lost their dominant arm, and seeing the sword that they got, wanting to have another chance, a phantom arm appears, grabbing the sword, and making them the new owner of the weapon And a teen, that after not being strong enough to pull his sister up when she fell from a cliff, (while she decided to accept fate and telling him to help their younger sister she stops holding his hand, falling) After a while still blaming himself for it, the hand that was holding her being pitch black, completely unusable, and from time to time attacking him, until one moment, his sister is in danger and he remembers what his older sister really said, she didn't blame him, she just didn't want him to find the same fate, and to help their younger sister, since she wouldn't be able to And with that realization the (second) sword gets out of the place it was stored, while the first was basically used as a test, the second was just stored, "no one can use it, so why bother" (Later the two new users of the twin swords could also meet up and be a mentor and disciples kind of found family)

"They weren't in a relationship, but they're definitely exes now"? One of my stories has Captain of the Guard Aesis and freelance mercenary swordsman Lance, and at first things seem fine. Aesis is brusque with everyone. And she's already being rude as heck towards the main characters, so her showing nothing but disdain for Lance isn't that rude. Maybe it's because Lance is the only one who calls her "Aesis" after she did a big thing about "Call me 'Captain Aesis', or just 'Captain', but NOT just 'Aesis'." Except she doesn't jump down his throat for it. Then Lance talks about having been in a relationship with someone (but doesn't name her), but it didn't work out, because "I wanted to keep her safe, so I treated her like she wasn't a capable fighter, and she felt I was insulting her. She wasn't interested in the wandering lifestyle, anyway." And then during a huge fight, Aesis gets wounded, and Lance screams her name, the first and only time he's shown actual worry/fear/panic. Yeah, they're definitely exes. ^_~ (Honorable mention goes to Professor Dweli and the mage Elimaio, who were exes where it ended REALLY BADLY, but Elimaio dies in the first chapter and Dweli isn't introduced until about chapter 9.)

02:13 this is honestly my opinion on literally all live action adaptations of animated things. Live action isn't inherently better than animation and, most of the time, something animated translates really poorly into live action

i cant get my mom to watch anything i like unless it is live action. she cant get invested in animated characters. sometimes i think she has bad taste. must be a generational thing

Regarding the Live Action thing, as a One Piece fan, while the live-action Netflix series WAS flawed, making certain parts of the story worse than the original (Looking at you, Arlong Park), it was genuinely very good and in some parts better than the original.

I remember the 'Guys who order boneless wings close the fridge with their hips' post, but unlike other people, I honestly don't mind when P.M. redoes a post. He usually does it in a slightly different way, since I imagine he just does it using whatever voice he feels fits it at the time, so it's nice to see it being redone in different ways, even if only slightly different~ Also I love the 'kinda cringe ngl' in the grandma voice. And yeah live action remakes are.... I've never seen one that surpasses the original, or at least, none that come to mind. Like, FMA, FMA was a great anime... and the live action one is just god awful. Like the only good thing I can say about it is that Alphonese looked great. That's literally it. And it doesn't just apply to anime, Disney's live action remakes are... bad. Like, they don't even come close to the original so the general feeling I got after seeing a couple of them was 'why did they bother?'

Look, I'm not saying that live action adaptations are inherently bad or make anything worse simply by existing. But it really doesn't change the way the media is interacted with; it's not like making a book into a film, where you go from having to imagine everything yourself based on your interpretation of the author's words to being angry about all the stuff the dumbass director got wrong or left out. It's just taking a film that relies on animation and turns it into a film that relies on CGI.
