Tumhare Karan is a kirtan composed by Saint Mirabai. This song is featured on the album RASA. RASA tells the story of Rasa Lila through the songs of the saints of India interwoven with sacred Sanskrit shlokas.
This beautiful song describes the scene where Lord Krishna, having summoned the Gopikas to Brindavan through His divine flute, now tells them to return home to their families. Mirabai's sweet song of "viraha" - the intense grief and longing for God as one's beloved - beautifully summarises the response of the Gopikas to Krishna as described in the "Pranaya geetham" within the Rasa Panchadhyayi (5 chapters of Rasa Lila) in Srimad Bhagavatham.
The dancer's movements and expressions in this video depict the "viraha" of the Gopikas, who during the pain of separation from Lord Krishna, lay heartbroken on the forest floor almost at the point of death.
We offer this song and accompanying video at the lotus feet of Lord Krishna and His eternal devotee Mirabai.
Lyrics
Thumhare karan sab sukh chodya
ab mohe kyun tarsao
virah vyatha lagi urarantar
so tum aaye bujhao
Ab chodat nahi bane prabhu ji
haskar turant bulao
meera dasi janam janam ki
ang se aang lagao
For you, I gave up every worldly pleasure
Why do you torment me now?
My heart aches with separation from you
Reach out your arms to me my Lord
From this moment, I shall not let go of you, nor will you let go of me
Call me close with your beautiful smile
Mira remains your faithful servant over endless lifetimes
Embrace me close my dear Lord Krishna.
