I've lost 95% of my belongings in Australian bush fires. Lost my job and home because of covid. Was abused as a child. And have a large family history of mental health issues. And to tell people that they can always just pull themselves up by their bootstraps or toughen up and get on with it just doesn't cut it. Therapy and anti depressants/anxiety medication can be just as if not more important in some cases in dealing with these thing's. I've been a competitive bodybuilder for 10 years, and I've read just about every philosophy book you could possibly list. But as routine and positive thinking are a big help, and in some cases can absolutely be enough, sometimes you need to battle chemical imbalances with other chemicals. Being able to lean on loved ones and not being obsessed with being tough and just dealing with it are invaluable too.
