If they were skilled enough to pull of such a masterful scam, they probably wouldn't've gotten into scamming at all. Industries like that tend to take the dregs; a mind that could outplay the Shrimp would likely be hard at work at NASA (the Nigerian Air/Space Academy) or someplace similar.

That is from the movie 'The Prince of Tides' where an abused wife fed her husband dog food and told him it was meatloaf. Shortly after the movie came out I went into a public toilet and another guy there had a wife who tried the same thing, only with cat food and everyone knew it. I'm actually rather surprised you could get a cat to even eat that garbage.

There is also a sort of vegan mock duck you can buy in a can, in wholefood shops. I think the Greenlife shop in Totnes may have it, so it may be available from Greenlife Online. I think it is a sort of braised tofu. It is quite pleasant if you put it in a casserole with root vegetables & herbs & does provide protein. I usually use the Marigold vegetable stock powder in my casseroles too. Thankyou for showing us the vegan tuna. I think my friends would rather just have some hummous in their sandwiches or some marinaded cooked beans in their salad.

@Robin John But fish fingers don't really taste like eating fish, they taste like a highly processed added salt and vinegar, breadcrumbed and fried thing. I don't even like canned tuna anymore, unfortunately. I think my tastebuds have gotten more sensitive over time. Not sure why. Thanks for braving this for us and giving us an idea of what it's like, though. I definitely won't be buying this, then. It's a shame, too, cause I was just thinking of what they could possibly use for the vegan equivalent of sushi. I mean, technically, it's entirely possible to make a 100% vegan sushi roll, as avacado rolls do exist, for example, and sushi doesn't mean "raw fish", it just means certain ingredients prepared with a kind of seasoned rice. You can have entirely vegan ingredients and still have it be "real" sushi. I just hate how we're basically driving a lot of fish species extinct. If they can work on the so-called "clean meat" (lab grown and basically cruelty free) version of many traditional sushi ingredients, that would be fantastic.
@flytrapYTP
@flytrapYTP 4 жыл бұрын
Ive noticed an interesting debate regarding lab grown meat in the vegan communities. It mainly seems to boil down to the reason for why a person became a vegan in the first place, and many vegans would happily eat lab grown meat for instance. Personally, I love the idea and would definitely try it.

When you said you used some cucumber, I immediately thought "Damn, pickles would have probably been better..." because I know how bland soy products can be. You want to get as much flavor from other ingredients in as possible! Within reason of course. Then you said it yourself. I mean, it was too late for your sandwich, but it will come in handy for any vegan who stumbles upon this! Plus I never knew there was vegan substitute for tuna. The more you know!

We have 'Tuno' in Australia of which the packaging looks quite similar to this. I will say I didn't love the original plain option and found it quite bland too, but there is one that has lemon in it and that is surprisingly nice! :) Found it to be useful when wanting to make things like tuna casserole, tuna mornay etc, nicer used this way rather than just raw out of the tin on a sandwich. :)

Crushed nori sheets are your best bet for approximating fish flavour in vegan dishes. I made a 'makerel' pate out of jack fruit and the nori saved it!

Anything to do with vegan or vegetarian "substitute" reminds me of that sketch from "Blackadder goes Forth" where coffee is mud, lumps of sugar are dandruff and the milk in the coffee is saliva. A bit like in Starbucks.

@stethacanthus7861
@stethacanthus7861 4 жыл бұрын
@@orok6351 I don't mean vegan or vegetarian sausages, burgers etc. (I'm not a veggie but prefer veggie versions of these often) I mean when they actually try and re-create the taste of a specific type of meat or a tuna in this case. If you try and re-create the flavour & texture of any complex organic compound using substitutes it is only common sense it is going to fail.

I am in the northern USA, and we have TUNO by Loma Linda brand (which is expensive, as I just checked spelling and saw the price) , and it and the flavored variants are often at the dollar store. I envision it pronounced as "Toon---NO!". Anyhow, it is very not enjoyable, at least to me. Its nice to see more vegan/veg options available at low cost though.

apparently the word vegan became an offence to many, almost as if someone would force them to eat it. really reminiscent to what you read about gay marriage from some people, the way they complain and spew hate despite being not affected.

Thomas Herzog Allegedly it’s because some vegans are pushy about veganism. Haven’t encountered any of that type myself, so I suspect the nastiness is more because some folks are a-holes. 🤷

I think it's more that a small subset of "militant" vegans and vegan organisations, such as PETA, have given them a terrible reputation.
@thomasherzog86
@thomasherzog86 4 жыл бұрын
@@Fernando-sd6xt No, if at all - the lies about PETA has given idiots the idea they can whitewash their guilty conscience about meat. If you are one of those "knowing" everything about PETA, i suggest looking up "center for consumer freedom". There is nothing militant about protests against animal abuse, let alone this being a small minority of vegan lifestyle.
