Just went on 1000 mile round trip and averaged 17.5 with lots of rolling hills. The Tundra is by far the best highway vehicle I've owned and with a bad back too. Have fun and stay safe 👍
@RobMotive6 жыл бұрын
I hit 17.5 once during the trip...thought it was an anomaly!! Otherwise 16.5 to 16.8. I agree...it’s a great long distance vehicle..two bad backs here!!!!👍

My 2012 is comfortable on long drives, except the ride from the ass end is a little bouncy over bumps. Came with the factory towing package and airbags installed so that may be why, plus it's a TRD and I believe they're supposed to have stiffer shocks for off roading. I don't see why, the Tundra is a MONSTER can't imagine it would do too hot off the beaten path on narrow trails. My 2004 first gen Tacoma is my hunting/wheeling truck as it can fit anywhere!

I live in Fairbanks, Alaska and run a 2015 Tundra Crewmax Limited with the 5.7(Don't believe they put any other motor in the Crewmax?...not sure). During the summers I drive all over the state putting thousands of miles on her. I don't bother to use or trust the truck's onboard computer for mileage. I use the miles driven to gallons put in. I like you also fill up at half way points(also coincides with bathroom and stretching legs breaks). On the highways I get on avg 17.5mpg. In town I get 14mpg. During winter(can see -50(without windchill) with an autostart) in town I get 6mpg(not a typo...lol). But I love how the truck feels on long road trips. You don't feel beat up. Plus if we encounter a moose, I feel pretty good we will make it out alive(knock on wood). Trucks can be replaced...lives not. =) Great Truck!!!

Hey Rob how you doin pretty good here 😊 Glad to hear you guys had a trouble free trip!!! When I was younger if I wanted to take off on a road trip comfort was pretty far down on the list but getting a little older comfort is right up there and the Tundra is a winner in my book!!!!
@RobMotive6 жыл бұрын
Thanks G. The Tundra was awesome!!! Comfort is right up there for me too!!!!👍

Coming back from Georgia last fall the whole front of my white truck was black from the Love bugs used Turtle Wax bug remover came right with a little scrubbing of course. I've been to about every state except for Alaska and Hawaii maybe never been to Michigan State either. Some of the out west was with my uncle in his rig.

That’s the bad part about driving your own vehicle!!! Mine was a mess, but I’ve had worse!!!!

Your trip reminds me of our last Christmas trip to Texas. Our truck did well. Prior to going I had switched my lights to LED which was a great idea. You to to Texas 🤪 my mpg on the dash read 13.6 at best. I don’t think it’s accurate at all. On a funny note since I bought my truck I’ve seen about 6 Tundras in metro Detroit area. But as soon as I crossed into Ohio border all Tundras started appearing. Further south I went the more Tundras appeared. LoooooL nice garage.
@RobMotive6 жыл бұрын
I agree! I think I need to calculate it the old fashioned way!! Lots of Tundras down here!!!!👍

ThrobbNation Arkansas and in Texas I was seeing Tundras every two miles or so was a Tundra. I drove my wife nuts saying Tundra, Tundra.......

I absolutely love long distance drives in the Tundra! I do drives like this all the time and I average just over 17 and go through mountain ranges too. I would recommend to anyone to get a memory foam cushion for their seat. For $20 it makes a HUGE difference in long distance travel. Butt numbness is greatly reduced.
@RobMotive6 жыл бұрын
It’s the best so far for me!!!! The cushion is a good idea too!!!👍

Jons TundraLife I have a memory foam cushion that I used for the trip. I have a bad back and I found it made a big difference. It also reduced the butt numbness too. I won’t travel long distance without it! 👍

I have a 2017 Tacoma sr5 that I traded in my 2015 ram 1500 for back in November. I love the truck and it perfect for Hawaii but I truly miss having a full size, even though it's a huge pain driving over here. In a couple years I plan on trading it in for a tundra or Silverado :)
@RobMotive6 жыл бұрын
I do like the Tacoma, but it was too small for what I wanted. I love the size and power of the Tundra!!😎
@alexanderestk6 жыл бұрын
ThrobbNation One thing I miss is my Hemi v8 lol. Well I have awhile to think about it but it's going to definitely be between the Silverado or Tundra.
@RobMotive6 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. Nothing like V8 power. Anything less in a truck just seems lacking!👍

Got 21.8 mpg overall on a 2500 mile trip over 4 Days with my 2016 Ram 1500 hemi. It’s a crewcab withlonestar trim level with 3.92 gearing and I went about 3-5 mph over speed limit the whole time. I now have over 40k miles
@RobMotive6 жыл бұрын
That’s great! Certainly beats my 16.5mpg avg!!👍
@THEDESTROYER7116 жыл бұрын
ThrobbNation yeah haha. My Ram continues to impress me anytime I drive it!! I think it’s probably my favorite vehicle that I have driven so far but I have only had three cars counting this one and I’m only 22. Looking to get another car or suv tho that’s still fun to drive but I need to have space for my 16 week old Husky that seems to get bigger everyday lol.
@RobMotive6 жыл бұрын
I loved my Rebel. That Husky will be people size soon enough!! 👍

ThrobbNation absolutely and I am really interested in the new Ram 1500 and hope they continue to offer great deals on them.

Why’d you switch from Tacoma to tundra? And is it a bad idea to straight pipe a Tacoma or what exhaust should I be looking at just to make it louder?
@RobMotive6 жыл бұрын
Loved the Tacoma but wanted something bigger. If I were to change exhausts I’d prob go with TRD or Borla if you want something louder. I have the TRD on my Tundra and it’s perfect.
@chekxy52846 жыл бұрын
ThrobbNation you think it’d be loud with Tacoma to since it’s only a v8? And does the Tacoma make a good first truck it’s mainly just gonna be daily driver for me nothing to serious
@RobMotive6 жыл бұрын
The Tacoma is a 6 cylinder (maybe you meant the Tundra?). As long as you don’t need the bigger back seat area, the Tacoma would make a great first truck. Great reliability, decent fuel economy and it looks awesome!!!👍

If you drive for 6 hours and drive 600 miles.. that means you're going 100 miles an hour.. I imagine you were anywhere from 360 miles to 480 miles which is 60mph for 6 hours or 80 mph for 6 hours
@RobMotive6 жыл бұрын
Yup...a bit of a “mis-speak” in the vid!!!!!👍
@tundrawhisperer48216 жыл бұрын
Just curious on your reason for filling at the half tank level each time? Was the next stop far apart maybe? Thx. Hopefully taking mine on a 1400 mile “round trip” to Simms, MT soon.
@RobMotive6 жыл бұрын
Just an over abundance of caution! Absolutely no reason to do it that way!!! You’ll like be the trip in the Tundra!! The truck is an awesome traveler!!!!👍
@alextran81886 жыл бұрын
When we go on road trips we usually refill at around half also. Just to be safe. We recently took our 2012 honda pilot down to NorCal from Seattle and it was about a 1600 mile round trip. We refilled at half cause once we drive over the Oregon and Californian mountains there are little to no gas stations down there.. (Our pilot averaged a pretty good 21.5 mpg on the trip, while it usually only averages 16.5 :))
@RobMotive6 жыл бұрын
I do it for piece of mind mainly. I figure your using the same amount of gas in the end, so it’s a waah👍
