Tune up, spark plugs and or coil packs replacement, P2 Volvo, '05 XC90 - VOTD

Replace spark plugs: 30 to 45 minutes ($58 / $140 / $225)
In this video I helped a guy replace the spark plugs on a '05 Volvo XC90 with the I5 turbo engine. I'm sure this process is the same with many of the other Volvo's.

nice job as always Robert, glad it was an easy fix. now all it needs is a new PCV hose and definitely a new Timing belt. If it were my vehicle, I personally would buy a complete kit and do everything including the water pump, but that's just me.

Thanks for this knowledge on how to change spark plugs and coils on a 05 xc90. i just change all five spark plugs and found out that the coil was not working so i replaced it with a new one from 0 reilys and car runs very smoth. check engine light is still on but i think it should turn off after a few drive cycles

No, it will have to be reset. You may be able to reset it by disconnecting the battery.

What is the best way to find out if it's bad coil pack that is making the vehicle run rough? Was doing 60 going into a curve and the engine shuddered, CE light started blinking, and I would have intermittent power loss. Can I crank it up and pull the injector off each coil pack to try and hear the difference in the motor or should I just remove the coil pack like everyone says to do?

Yep decent gapped plugs do make a difference, im sure too big a gap slightly retards the ignition and the misfire of cause. Most cars would not start with plugs that dead.

Man, what ever works good for your car is fine for me. A lot of people snug them then do another 1/4 turn.

@@RobertDIY When I removed my own engine cover, the wiring harness covers had completely disintegrated. I think my oil cap gasket was also pretty leaky, so there was junk EVERYWHERE in a pool of burnt oil. I wiped my engine as clean as possible before pulling the coils. Have you ever had debris fall into a cylinder, and how do you get it out? Thanks again!

You can get a good refurbished engine for about $1,000 US. I have no idea what shipping would be. My guess would be about $2,500.
