This is a follow up to an earlier video, where I go into a little more detail to try and cut down on some of the common questions.
If you have a fuel injected Triumph motorcycle, watch this.
You need an Android phone, the TuneECU app and a correct Bluetooth Adapter:
App and instructions:
www.tuneecu.net/
BT Adapter:(price has gone up since I last purchased one)
amzn.to/3biNSbX
Link to the TuneECU Box map database, to help locate what map you need for your bike, country and VIN range:
app.box.com/s/jhxtzesemvqfz1x...
Link to the modified maps I made for the 2021+ Speed Twin 1200. Map 31127 is for US, 31126 is for UK models:

I'm so glad you put this information out there. I'm excited to try a new map for my 2016 Scrambler after swapping the stock pipes for EMPI flared VW pipes (3693). It has a K&N filter too but it's bone stock beyond that so I'm hoping for the best. Might try removing the snorkel too after getting the tune right and seeing if there are any maps for those types of incremental mods.

I FINALLY loaded the tune you made for me! I only got it for a couple mile ride because it’s in between raining here. It definitely feels better up top thanks to richening it up some and adding a bit of timing (I only run 93 octane anyway so it can handle it). Unfortunately the throttle/power doesn’t seem much different because the Street Triple was already at is max throttle values all the way to redline so I didn’t get that big difference like a lot of bikes get. It is quicker to come up from the midrange though because it was dialed back on throttle opening down under around 7,000 rpm’s. It’s got the idle hanging really high for about 5 seconds and the throttle sensitivity feels very twitchy but that’s due to the parameters being reset. It’s gotta relearn itself. Thank you again very much for putting that base tune together for me!! Oh, and mine only took about 2 minutes to reprogram?? I was expecting much longer like yours. Do you think anything was wrong with that? It said it was complete and it starts and runs fine. Just seemed very fast for a reprogram. Even my truck takes like 5 minutes to load a new tune.

The most irritating issue on my rally pro is the slightly jerky pickup at very low speeds from a closed throttle. It also runs a little lean with my slip-on and it definately has a strict nanny at waiting for me at aroung 200kph!

Hey Dave, thanks a ton for these videos! I have a '16 T120 with TEC cam, x-pipe, air filter, mufflers, and a DNK tune I bought years ago, which in all honesty works pretty good (and definitely better than the stock map), but I ended up stacking a booster plug on top of it to get the crisper 'sport mode' throttle response I was after. Now I feel I have an understanding to poke around and see what I paid for lol. A question comes to mind-- if I ever wanted to take my bike to a Dyno tuner, does this mean a (competent) tuner shouldn't need to install a power commander to make changes? Or is that device still necessary?
@SquireSCA
@SquireSCA 9 ай бұрын
The Booster Plug is snake oil. I don't know why anyone buys those things. All it does it trick the MAP sensor into thinking the bike is at lower elevation, so it adds more fuel everywhere. it does nothing for the throttle. I would remove the Booster Plug, and go into TuneECU and adjust your Sport mode throttle settings and then tune the bike...
@Automagine
@Automagine 9 ай бұрын
@@SquireSCA I bought a booster plug in the early days of my T120 hoping it would alleviate its notoriously snatchy throttle off idle (it didn't). Back then I might have agreed with you. Fast forward a couple years, a TEC cam, and a DNK tune later-- I was debating going to a dyno tuner, but one day I decided to first try out that old booster plug I had laying around for shits and giggles. I rigged it up and spent an hour testing it out on the same stretch of road getting on and off throttle in all gears across the rev range, pulling over and bypassing it, doing the same run, replugging it, repeat. Respectfully, the throttle response now changes significantly when it is plugged in, and is much more FUN! Almost like a Sport mode, which doesn't come on the T120. No exhaust popping, no gasoline smell, and always between 45-55 mpg. My theory: the DNK tune was maybe not intended for the cam, and as such was too lean. Adding "more fuel everywhere" fixed that. I'll pop into TuneECU one of these days. I do love to tinker.
@SquireSCA
@SquireSCA 9 ай бұрын
@@Automagine Its just dumping more fuel in there, so if the bike is lean, the bike will feel better. The problem with the Booster Plug is that it has no way to just target lean areas. It dumps fuel everywhere, which will help lean spots, but areas that are fueled fine or even rich, will get richer.

@SquireSCA
@SquireSCA Жыл бұрын
I would leave them on, unless you decide to tune it, and then get rid of them. What I found on mine, is that it idled kinda funny when I disabled them... So I plugged TuneECU in while the bike was running, and watched the short term fuel trims that the O2 sensors were providing... It would bounce around from +7 to +13 on each cylinder, meaning that the bike was ADDING fuel to the idle area, not taking away... While the bike's ability to "adjust" is narrow and limited in scope, it does work both ways... So if the bike is a little lean there, it can richen it slightly, and that will help you.

Will not hurt it at all. Its the same motor as the RS, same internals, same tune. The only difference is the ride by wire table. Your "sport" mode is more like the "Road" mode on the RS. All you would be doing is making your sport mode match the RS. If you want, you can open up the ETV table for the RS, copy it, and then open up the R map and paste it in. If you tell me what your base map is, I can do it for you and send you the link. I just need to know what country you are in, and what mods you have done. Will take me 5 min.

Here, try this. Made Sport mode unrestricted but also more aggressive and linear than the RS model. Should feel nice and spicy in Sport mode now. Also added a little fuel to the lean areas, lowered AFR targets to 13.2 and then told it to turn the cooling fan on a little sooner... drive.google.com/file/d/1YeoHdJU63pkqVMonKbg22jWhpMTjPuK3/view?usp=drive_link When you ride it in Sport mode, it might feel too aggressive at first, but that's because your muscle memory has learned that "this much twist gives me this much power"... It's going to give you more power per bit twisted... It's not changing the tune or what the motor us capable of making, it is taking what was already there, and changing how it is delivered... Before, you might twist to 45% and it would only give you 29%... Now, if will give you whatever you twist it to. Start with that and if we need to tweak it from there we can. Install that, reset adaptives, let it warm up for a few min and then go rip on it and see how it feels and report back?

For a bike from that era, there is a map called the TOR or Arrow map. TOR is Triumph Off Road. They put out a map for that pipe, as they used to sell it as a Triumph accessory. Look on this page and see if you can locate your bike, and find a map that says TORS or Arrow Full in the title or description: tuneecu.net/ObsoleteTune_List.html Now what I don't know, is if you can push that tune with the Android version, or if you have to get your hands on the old Windows version and a wired OBD instead of Bluetooth. It can. I don't have access to one of those bikes to mess around with it, but if you do, then you could play around with the throttle maps, fuel trims, etc... The 850 Sport at 100% throttle is mapped to 100 from 0-3500 RPM then it drops off a cliff to 71.3 and even down to 59.1, hovering between those till redline. They marketed this bike as having good low end torque, easier to ride, etc etc...I'm just laughing at this table. They tuned it to look like a half wet noodle. All my files start as OEM base maps from Triumph. If you tell me the year, model, country and last 6 digits of the VIN, I can put together a map in the morning... And the bikes will always be a bit snatchy for two reasons... They are torquey 1200cc twins, and there is a fuel cut off hard coded into the ECU. You can smooth some of it out with fuel or ride by wire table changes, but a lot of it is you learning to adapt and ride around it. I say this from experience. One of my bikes is making just shy of 200hp at the wheel, and around 110ft/lbs of tq. I learn to ride with a smooth throttle hand. We will see if we can improve it, but there will always be some snatch in the throttle on these bikes...

If the pipe you installed has a CAT in it and the dB killer, then you can probably get along fine with the stock map. If you search TuneECU's website there might be an "Arrow" or "TOR" map for that bike and year, that would work pretty well. I don't personally have anything that old in my library...

No, for the 2019-19 models the motors have a different cam, which means they also have a different fuel and ignition tune. No way to turn the R into the RS without swapping out engine internals and doing a full tune, which at that point its cheaper to just sell the R and get the RS. In 2020, they started using the exact same motor, same internals, same fuel and ignition tunes, and then they just manipulate the power output with the ride by wire tables... Just like they give a different power profile for Rain, Road and Sport... those 3 modes can be one output on the RS, and then they just dial them back for the R model...

You certainly can. This is one of those things where just getting rid of the restrictions are "good nuff"... But if you want to truly make it a 1:1 ratio, yeah, you can do that. Now, I would be careful down low. Going truly linear all the way down to low throttle inputs might take away the smoothness at partial throttle openings. Hi, I’m not looking to change any other parts, I just want the bike to work with the increased performance promised by Akrapovic, the spec clearly stated that there is no re-map required, I have spent allot on the exhaust as it is for a 2006 bike due to the secondhand market being poor. If I could just get a map to unlock the performance promised then that would be good. The 20400 map states arrow or high aftermarket silencer, is this tailored too much towards the arrow?
@SquireSCA
@SquireSCA Жыл бұрын
@@jamesbye6251 The increased performance, needs a tune. Every maker of mufflers claims that it makes 5hp more with no fueling required. It's largely BS. You might get 1hp with no tuning. If the muffler changes the flow enough to give a significant increase in power, then it changes the flow enough that it will need some fueling changes. That's what the 20400 map, and the one I sent you is for. Arrow, Akra, M4, etc... Makes no difference. A 3" hole is a 3" hole, one slipon doesn't make more power than another if they are roughly the same size and length. Where they differ is sound, weight and looks, that's it. You can use 20400 as it is from TuneECU, or use the one that I sent, that just tweaks a couple things. I would use mine, if it were my bike. I didn't change the fueling, but my tweaks will help, as they pulled ignition timing on that motor up top. I put it back it.

Can you use an android laptop PC for the APP and subsequent tuning?
@SquireSCA
@SquireSCA 2 ай бұрын
I do a lot of my edits on a PC running an Android emulator(BLueStacks) because it's easier working with a mouse, keyboard and a 42" 4K monitor... But for the actual flashing, I would only do it through a legit Android device. Doesn't matter if it is a phone or a tablet, but you want it to be actually a normal Android device... Otherwise you could risk bricking your ECU.

I want to do this on my speed twin 1200 year 2023 but the Shouldn't the fuel and advance parameters be changed? Is the control unit able to adapt or is there a risk of detonation with the risk of break the pistons? Thanks
@SquireSCA

The ride by wire tables are independent of the fuel tables. You don't have to refuel if you unrestrict it. There is only one set of fuel tables, for all ride modes. Going from rain to sport does not make it lean, and neither will this. Now, if you are installing exhaust and an air filter, than absolutely, you will want to alter the fueling and make sure its getting enough.

@@SquireSCAThanks for the reply, I'm happy now. then I prepare the map as you did in the video including the AFR values. the motorbike has oem filter and oem exhaust. in the future at the maintenance service I would like to fit a bmc or k&n panel filter and if necessary two more open exhaust terminals such as ixil ironhead. Will this necessarily lead to an adjustment of the fuel table? or just in case a decat is fitted? thank you so much for your answer

@@hybridjordan2511 Air filter won't change much, its more about the convenience of being able to wash it and re-use it. The mufflers might change the flow a little bit, and you can add a little fuel to compensate for that. Hit me up when you do the filter and mods, and I can help you with a map.

@@SquireSCAHi, I installed the modification to the etv3 sport map by changing the etc3 and afr table parameters. As you described. I reset the adjustments via tune ecu and everything seems to work fine.. I really hope that the complete opening of the throttle in sport mode does not unbalance the carburetion, creating fainting or a leaner air-petrol mixture.. because the petrol table is mapped for a throttle open to 70 let's say..

Dave, do you know if I can disable SAI with TuneECU for my 2014 STR?
@SquireSCA
@SquireSCA Жыл бұрын
I believe so, but does the 2014 use the Android version, or the old Windows version? If it doesn't, you can disable SAI with a marble. Find the rubber SAI hose where it connects to the airbox... Pull it off, and take a standard glass marble, grease it up, and jam it into the hose, maybe an inch in... Reconnect the hose to the airbox, now its disabled 100%, and if you decided to reverse it later, just pull the hose off the airbox and squeeze the greased marble out of the hose. 🙂

Road and Rain, I left alone. Sport is now full power like the RS model. Install the map, reset adaptives, fire it up and let it warm up and settle in, and then go for a ride in SPORT mode. Report back on how it feels? And riding it hard, get up towards redline at 100% throttle.

You download the map for your bike through the TuneECU app. Goto Map, Open, then download, select Triumph and then continue to navigate to the model and year bike you have... From there, you can edit the map, and then push it to the bike. You can't pull the map directly out of the bike, it only lets you push a map TO a bike.
