TUNING MAT ARMSTRONGS M3

Tuning Mat Armstrongs M3 with Guest Tavarish all the way from America!
I enjoyed this one, with Mats input we managed to get some decent figures on this M3 with just a few hours on it. I did ask for 2 days, but got 2 hours haha but this is the life of KZbin and planning content!
I would like to thank Femto tools for the ECU unlock to make this possible!

But sadly recently sold it to a friend (he loved how well the car pulled compared to his previous diesels so he bought it same day i took him for a spin) , as i now have a company car (Electric....booo!) but looking to pick up a weekend car in the near future and bring it back to you ;)

Great video mate, absolutely top tune! Just be careful working on these loud cars all day, it's worth the hearing protection. My mate used to work at a tuning shop and he suffered permanent hearing loss from a single loud Camaro that came in. He's only 35 years old and now needs hearing aids for his day to day. Stay safe!

Yeah we its only femto that can unlock these ecus, cost was around 750eu and took 10 days turnaround

Good video. How does the dyno calculate P-norm given it is actually mearing P-wheel? Is it just a common equation? Or is it car specific?

Measures whp on the way up, and losses on the way down (neutral coast down) also measures the losses in itself (bearings etc) so its super accurate. Litchfield have the same setup and the engine dyno and they run around 1-2hp out to each other

@@Phil-cooper Ah clever! That makes sense. As a rule of thumb I always think of it as 10% loss for FWD, 15% RWD, 20% AWD. The latter is in the ballpark of your P-drag. But I never knew they were actually that accurate. Very cool. Have you ever come across any cars with crazy low (or high) drag losses?

Yeah, cars cant be measured in a % method, only takes a binding brake to lower the measured whp, but this way the loss is added to the run down as its measured there too, and you can see that the losses are massive so you can find whats wrong :) Great for race/track cars and finding those lost digits. Ill make a video on it soon!

I see you use exhaust fans to draw air/fumes out. Do you use any intake fans in front of the vehicle?

We get this question alot, mat covered it in his video, our system works like a wind tunnel, the air gets pulled in via ducts in the doors, so instead of having a small fan at the front and extraction, we have a huge one at the back that works for both. Same as the Litchfield setup basically

I appreciate the exhaust fan will work, but my limited intellect thinks a front inlet (forced air) solution would work better (eg simulating real world conditions). The main reason wind tunnels use exhaust fans is to reduce turbulence, which you aren't focusing on here

Theres more to it then that, the gap in the front is designed to draw air to the car, so it is forced, its the venturi affect. We have measured well over 1000hp cars this way same with litchfield. In my head it shouldnt work, but it works really well. If you think of it like this, on the road the air is drawn through the front, then over the engine and down the back to the exit, just sticking a fan on the front doesnt replicate this. But running the air through the car does. Thats pretty much how it works - simulates the road. Issue was balancing the air pressure in the room

I may be wrong on this but might be worth blurring your AnyDesk connection number if the AnyDesk host is internet facing. As I say I may be wrong but might leave it open for ones to keep trying the address with multiple passwords. P.S great to see the technical side of what you do.
