Thanks very much for sharing your expert knowledge. I had to watch your tuning method several times before I released that what you are showing is really a very simple method to fairly quickly obtain a good tune. I tried to take a short cut on your method and started the process using my current reg settings of 85 bar but found that I was way up on the plateau. I was amazed to find the knee (at an acceptable sub 12 fpe) with the reg pressure set at only 55 bar. This is lower than the reg pressure set by the UK importers when I first got the gun. I now realise that I need to be careful about following advice on airgun forums - someone, who I thought was knowledgeable, advised me to increase the reg pressure to at least 80 bar and then reduce the HST to achieve sub 12. I had been using this setting for some time and wondered why my Crown was shooting poorly at 50 yards. I'm confident that I'm going to get much better results with my new tune (not shot it yet but the tune resulted in a very low standard deviation). I had previously tuned/fettled my regulator, trigger, hammer, pellet liner etc (mainly following other videos of yours) and my Crown is rapidly improving. One thing I would add for others who are tuning for sub 12 is to use a pellet that you know produces a high fpe. That way you should find that your rifle remains sub 12 when using other pellets after the tune.

This is the method that I adopted too when I started tuning my Streamline FAC and Dream-Tac FAC. This is a proven way of tuning a pcp for low spread and efficiency. That said, this is the first time that I see it explained in such a clear way. Awesome video. I have subscribed and will direct others to your channel every time I see people struggling with their setup. Add: once I have found the plateau velocity, I reduce the HST until the velocity is ~2.5% below the plateau velocity and fire 10 shots to see how it groups. If not great, then I slightly increase or decrease the HST until I find the best tune. Sometimes I have to slightly increase or decrease the reg pressure to find the sweet spot in terms of accuracy and efficiency (I'm not interested in very high power, only in accuracy).

Thanks, that's the way we do it, this gets you around where you need to be then fine tuning the reg and hammer spring for accuracy, it takes a little time but well worth doing in my opinion. Thanks for watching.

That was great Jake, I now realise the relationship between the regulator and hammer spring , I'll be using that method to set up the stressgun 😁😂

Good luck Phil, its tricky to get the balance right but worth the effort in the long run. As long as it doesn't turn into a javelin down the range ill be happy. Thanks for watching.

Great video, was looking for a sub12 tune on an FX, for a while now. I have a Dreamline which is a bit inconsistent and with an FPS increase of a few shots after tank pressure drops below reg
@sub12airgunners3 жыл бұрын
Thats a fairly common problem to be honest but not a big deal you should be able to wind off a couple of turns on your hammer spring, and see little to no drop in power, as your hammer spring setting is overpowering the valve. Thanks for watching.

I’m not confident enough yet to work on my Crown like you have demonstrated but this was a really interesting and informative video, thanks. It’s very encouraging to see your results in the second video. You mentioned a link, but I cannot find it, are you able to still link please as having something to read would be very helpful. 👍🏽

Hi great video as I've just got my first FX (Crown mk 2) and trying to tune it but when I have taken it apart at 9.56 you say you need a 2.5 mm Allen key but in that position I've just a plastic black cap so unable to adjust? Or can I remove the cap?
@sub12airgunners3 ай бұрын
that will just pick out with something sharp then you can adjust but it will void your warranty if you remove it
@muckmirrors25123 ай бұрын
@@sub12airgunners That's great thanks for the info, been asking on facebook groups and everyone is talking about power adjust but could not see it, i think they though I was a bit mad lol. Appreciate the info, no warranty as second hand anyway 🙂

Hi, Could this method be used to tune the Maverick? Finally got mine over a chrono and it's woefully short on power......Reading 8ft lbs from factory which is astonishing. Also its leaking air. If this is what £1400 gets you I'm not very impressed at all. Think a phone call to the dealer is in order but just wondered your thoughts? Many thanks
@stephj765RS2 жыл бұрын
The methodology is applicable to any pcp. I don't have a Maverick but I think you are better off leaving the 1st reg (the high pressure reg) alone and just focus on the 2nd reg.
@tyrantwitness24823 жыл бұрын
Jeff seen others set hammer spring cam to neutral so cam only starts to move spring at min plus .5. Then set hammer to max and adjust reg till 20 FPS above desired and then reduce hammer spring to desired FPS ! Check out Ken Hikes and Ernest Roe, seemed much quicker to do.
@sub12airgunners3 жыл бұрын
You can do it that way no problem, but this video was more on the theory of tuning and not just showing the quickest way to do it, any rifle FX or other wise can be tuned in this method, we started out with no predetermined knowledge and found using repeatable methods the base pressure for the regulator and a suitable hammer spring setting, in reality when not tuning for the camera, we can setup a crown for range testing in 5 mins flat, but the concept and tuning method is the idea of this video. Thanks for watching.

I have an FX crown Blue Laminate and it suffers from massive reg creep despite me rebuilding the reg with new seals. I have also been told by a reg man that this is one of the most common problems with the Crown. Is there any way I can get reg creep down to manageable levels?
@sub12airgunners2 жыл бұрын
We polish both sealing surfaces of the reg this helps tremendously, it does not eliminate it completely but it brings it down to manageable levels, the top of the reg piston and the bottom of the reg adjuster are the sealing surfaces in the AMP regs so we get them to a mirror polish and they seal up nicely.
