Hi Jayda, I love this new project. Thanks for putting it out there. Do you know that if you pick up the 2 loops on the foundation chain when you begin your first row, the fabric won't curl up as bad. It's not easy to start but it sure helps the burrito effect. Let me know what you think. Love your manner of teaching you're the best.

My feb block is almost done. But my left side is loose. I think it's because of tension. When I but the boarder on it should hide those loose stitches. Otherwise the block looks really good. Go stuck on row 21 because my stitches kept falling off. Got thru that. I should be done with my block by tomorrow or Tuesday.

You're the best Jayda! I had seen your calendar blanket tutorials and planned on trying one at some point and had enjoyed many of your other projects. But, early this year my husband bought me a small book on Tunisian Crochet stitches. I had never seen it before (although oddly I found a small double ended hook in my stash). The book really didn't show you how to tunisian crochet, just a bunch of stitch variations. So, in my beginning research I came across the first month of the 2022 calendar blanket that had JUST come out! Wow! Was I lucky! So, always one to go all out with any new craft I ordered some hooks and started in. Great project for beginners! I do have to say I've incorporated a few tips and tricks from other videos. And, this second block did give me some struggles. I did frog several times, but I finally got it. Then I struggled with blocking! After doing the January block, the March block and now working on April block that is going well and coming out the correct size with blocking I was about to remake the February block to see if I could do it better. But, I read some comments and decided to try blocking again. With the square still dry I did some tugging, and I don't mean anything gentle like you described, I mean PULLING!. I then decided to give a try to steam blocking. I had only wet blocked before... afraid of the dreaded acrylic yarn disaster with steam blocking. Well, between the pulling and the steam blocking I now have a perfect block and no re-do! Thank you so much for your many, many fun videos! Even my husband (who does not crochet or knit) loves hearing you and Mr. Stitches when I'm watching and LOVES your laugh!! :)

Hi! We're so happy to hear you're enjoying our Calendar Blanket along with us this year 😁 Blocking is literally magic, it's especially helpful with motif projects that want to size differently and different stitch patterns can really test our tension!

2/8/202 I am very pleased when I came across your crochet and other crafts,,, I learned to do the Tunisian stitch a long time ago, and it certainly does like to curl,, so I took some clothes pins that had the medal so it could pinch the yarn carefully once I got about four rows I would put one of the clothes pins about a few inches in from the side and then one in the middle and then one a few inches from that side. The weight was just enough to stop the yarn that had been worked from rolling up. I found it quite comfortable not having to fight with the roll ,,, Smiling here, I really do enjoy you and your sweet nature and your hubby You both lighten the day and help to feel so relaxed..God bless you both for sure...Night sweet dreams

Jayda-I can’t even tell you how exciting and fun this calendar project has been!! I started crocheting when I was 8 and am 41 now. I tried knitting once a long time ago but gave up on it really fast. The day that I started on the January Tunisian square I just couldn’t stop smiling. I was having such a blast learning something new and it pushed me to try to knit again! Last week I purchased knitting needles, watched your videos and I am in the midst of making the Easy Knit Cowl on your channel! Two new skills this year already! My 9 year old daughter has recently learned to crochet and I am teaching her the Tunisian stitches as well. She is in the middle of her January square! I like to wet block it as it allows me to wash the square at the same time so I know that's clean and smells amazing after using softener liquid. I bought his cool fabric mat for drying dishes and it has this nice little squares pattern on one side allowing me to pin the square so it dries perfectly at 12x12 inches. I finished my January square in less than two days. It really goes fast, maybe two fast because then I have an almost a month of waiting for the next pattern. At least waiting for March will be shorter by three days thanks to February.😁

Jayda InStitches I found a tip on Naztazia to help with the rolling that seems work. 1) make a single crochet row as the base row 2) use the back "humps" of the foundation chain 3) if using a base row of single crochet, your 1st forward pass goes under both "v"s of the chain top. Not sure how that would throw off your math for the squares. Thoughts?

@JaydaInStitches2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kimberly! That's a neat tip and anyone who's comfortable using Tunisian could certainly try it, but I wouldn't suggest it in this case since our squares all need to have a certain consistency 😉 But honestly, curling isn't a big deal in this case since it's just a square and blocking them isn't difficult 💗
@HrafnNordhri2 жыл бұрын
The curling happens because most Tunisian stitches are on the front of the fabric. There's a few ways to fix this. one way is to do the reverse of the stitch you are doing. So if you are doing the simple stitch, do a row of reverse simple stitch. If this is not what you want, then block it. Often adding a border helps.

I’ve practiced your Tunisian dishcloth and have made the TSS (Tunisian Simple Stitch) square, a square with the block stitch and another with the brick stitch. TFS (Tunisian Full Stitch) is almost the same as TKS (Tunisian Knit Stitch). At least, it is as bulky on the back as the knit stitch is. Also, I work the foundation stitch in the back bumps of my foundation chain. It gives a more finished look and is neater when I add a border to the square. Jayda, your blanket for 2022 has stimulated me to do a whole bunch of Tunisian cloths and squares, and I’m also joining another online Tunisian crochet project in a few days. Thank you for this project! Blessings!

Thank you Jayda. This month's square is a real treat. I've just started and I'm already at row 18! I'm pretty new to crochet and I work slowly. So, 18 rows are really fast for me. The fabric is ever so stretchy and thick. It might work well for a winter toque perhaps? This calendar blanket project is like having a Christmas Day in every month of the year. Great fun.
@JaydaInStitches2 жыл бұрын
Hi Allan, YES! This stitch would make a great toque! Honestly, I find my speed varies when I do Tunisian crochet, I start a bit quickly, then slow down, then maybe 15 rows in I start to speed up again 😁
@AllanCaine2 жыл бұрын
@@JaydaInStitches I actually found a pattern for a toque using the Tunisian full stitch with "Häkeln mit Claudetta" (Crocheting with Claudetta). She has this cool idea. She switches yarn colour before each backwards pass. This causes the fabric to have alternating vertical lines of contrasting color. The effect is really awesome. There's so much one can do with Tunisian crochet!

So if anyone is looking for help in with neat edges and rolling (that hasn't been touched on yet) look here. 1) when starting, instead of pulling from the v section of the chain pull up your loops from the humps/bumps on the back of the chain (I do this with all my crochet projects it gives it a nice edge to work with) this also helps with the rolling. 2) at the end of each frp you have that last vertical bar, instead of working that last bar go through that one and the one behind it, (@ 9:20 Jayda is showing that second bar. PLEASE NOTE: she is not doing what I was directing she just shows you the two bars) when you do this it will give you a nice edge like the right side and it helps with the rolling as well. These two steps help with rolling and gives your piece a more finished look. It also makes adding a boarder a dream!

I'm loving the Tunisian squares like everyone else [whose comments I've read]! I made a couple dishcloths of cotton of January's stitch, but haven't made it in acrylic yet to stitch together into a blanket 🙄😒🤪🤭. But will be working on them both. Oh yea=and I've usedmy dishcloths and LOVE em 😁. Actually just finished dishes before watching the tutorial; with 1 of them. THX Jayda & Mr InStitches 🙃

Such an interesting stitch pattern. I’ve started it and so easy. But I’m finding myself counting every row… 😝….. do not want to screw it up and have to frog. Looking forward to the first Friday on March. .

Hi Leigh Ann! I counted every row too and I still had to pull out the odd stitch 😁

My square wound up much shorter than my January square, but was the same width. I had to do 40 rows to make it even.
@JaydaInStitches2 жыл бұрын
Hi Amy, I blocked my square when finished to "size it up" and that's the best plan. If you changed the number of rows in your square, leave yourself a note because it will effect how you join your squares later 💗
@amymallison-austin58052 жыл бұрын
@@JaydaInStitches even blocking wasn’t going to bring it to size. I wound up frogging it and using a slightly larger hook. So far, it’s much better.

Hi Jayda. I retaught myself to crochet after many years and used your calendar blanket last year to help me. I loved it. I am following the Tunisian blanket as well. January’s stitch did not cause me any grief and came out great. February’s on the other hand -- I’m struggling with the stitch. I finally got the forward pass and reverse pass, odd and even, in my head but I have ripped it out from row seven back to scratch three times!! I can’t seem to get my edges to look like they should - they are wonky and floppy. Any suggestions? Maybe my yarn is too soft - I’m not sure. ❤️
@JaydaInStitches2 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen! The edges might look ripply or wiggly, but once we add the border and block, we can shape it to look nice and square 😊 If the stitch itself is giving you some grief, I highly recommend making up a sampler first (I always do) this can really help you see where you have trouble counting, OR it makes seeing the pattern a little easier since the scale is smaller 💗

The last „bar“ you insert into is the chain 1 of the return pass. You can put a stitch marker into that chain 1 to see how it moves.

I really wanted to jump into this year's calendar blanket. However, my carpal tunnel just will not allow me to work with that long hook. 😭😭😭 I use clover so I couldn't even try to stuff them on that hook cause of the handle cover. I say all that to say these are BEAUTIFUL!!! I am so upset I can't use the long hook anymore. But I've decided to make my own calendar blanket for this year while watching your videos. 🥰🥰 That way I still feel like I'm crocheting along with you guys. 😁

Hi Christie! I hear you, wrist and arm pain is a super bummer at the best of times, but especially when it comes to crochet!!! You can also participate in this year's blanket by making little swatch versions of the pattern stitches in cotton if you want, they make great scrubbies! Try 6 chains and 6 rows for this one 💗

Since I finished my June square early I'm redoing February. When I blocked it I shot steam on to it instead of just hovering over it with my iron. I've tried several times to close up the uneven steam holes, but they appear to be permanent. 😥 I learned a long ago not to iron the yarn, but didn't realize that shooting steam on to it too close to the yarn is just as bad!
@JaydaInStitches2 жыл бұрын
Oooh annoying! 😡 Acrylic "sets" when it gets exposed to steam. This is why steam blocking can be GREAT (because you don't have to do it again) but a little scary because if you make an error, it's sort of set in stone!

I really REALLY hope this square blocks out ... well ... square. I just finished the full stitch block tonight. I know you mentioned it somewhere, but I can't seem to find the reference ... how do you figure out how many stitches high by wide to get an approximately square peice? I kind of spaced out your instructions and made my blocks 32 stitches wide and did 30 rows. Sort of winging it.
@JaydaInStitches2 жыл бұрын
Hi Miki! The squares all need to be the same number of stitches and rows: stitch count can be any even number and row count has to be a multiple of 4 (so you'll need to add a couple of rows!)

Hi! Definitely try the little sampler that I showed at the beginning: 6 chains, work 6 rows of the pattern. This is such a small scale that you can even do it on a regular crochet hook. This small scale gives you a chance to see where you might be running into difficulties a lot quicker. I always do a little sampler first before I launch into a Tunisian stitch and I find it helps me a ton 💗

Hi it's Katie from the UK, I'm loving this project, but just a quick question, how does one remember which row you're doing next, (odd or even) especially if you leave your project for a while?! Xxxxx💖😄
@JaydaInStitches2 жыл бұрын
Hi Katie! You can use a stitch marker to indicate the even rows or use 2 different colours markers to indicate the end of each row (to mark off even and odd). We discuss it in the video 😊
@victoriavigyikan47312 жыл бұрын
About blocking. Does it last after a washing? If you give this as a gift to be used and washed a lot. Will it continue to look nice and squared up? I don’t want to gift something that looks bad after use. Thank you for your help. I enjoy your tutorials and I made the MMAM 2021 blanket.
@JaydaInStitches2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Once a blanket is blocked, it typically doesn't need blocking again. As an added bonus, washing also helps to loosen up the stitches, and the edges won't want to curl again 😊

@@JaydaInStitches Thank you so much Jayda for your reply. This is a challenge for me. I had to change the yarn I was using (Red Heart Ombre size 4) to a normal size 4 yarn from a different company (on line from Hobby Lobby). The Red Heart Ombre is like a size 3 stiff cord; no stretch or give. The new yarn made crocheting easier and the finished square so much nicer and softer. Thought you'd like to know as a beginner to Tunisian crochet.
