Learn how to crochet a gingham blanket using ANY yarn and ANY hook size! In this video I will be teaching you all the tips and tricks for using 2 colours of yarn at once alongside teaching you the theory and maths behind the blanket so you can have the freedom to create ANY gingham style blanket you want! Any colour, any size, any yarn and any hook 😀
If the video speed is too fast, you can slow it down! 😀 See this video on exactly how: • How to Adjust the Spee...
🧶 Yarn & Hook information:
For my personal blanket, I used Papatya Super Stitch Yarn with a 5.5mm Hook.
I used 2 balls of cream (shade 1200), 4 balls of beige (shade 4120) and 5 balls of mustard (shade 8740) - (I used 2 of those 5 balls of the mustard for the border)
I chained 133 chains to start (13 blocks wide) and made 19 blocks in length (total of 95 rows)
My entire blanket (including the border) is approximately 47 inches x 58 inches (119cm x 147cm)
👉 THE BORDER: I followed 2 different tutorials for this.
To begin, I prepared my edging using this method from ‪@Itsallinanutshell‬ • How to work a straight...
I then used this border from ‪@DaisyFarmCrafts‬ • Back Loop Single Croch... (I chained 12 for my starting chain on the ribbed border 😊)

🔥 Frequently Asked Questions:
Do you have a left handed version of this video? If you are left handed, you can convert ANY video on KZbin yourself! Simply go to www.mirrorthevideo.com/ and follow the instructions to mirror flip any video to convert to left handed!
How much yarn will I need? This is a very tricky question to answer as there are so many variables! How much yarn you need will depend on which yarn you choose, the thickness of that yarn, your tension and how large you want your finished project to be. I suggest making a small sample first so you can gauge how much yarn you'll need. If making a crochet square, you can weigh your finished square to work out how much yarn it used!
How many squares do I need for a blanket? That all depends on the size of the square you are making and how big you want your finished blanket to be! I always advise making one square first then measuring the size of it. From there you can work out how many squares you will need to get the blanket size you want 😀
Do you have the written pattern? Yes! I have written patterns to accompany my video tutorials on my website here: www.hookedbyrobin.com The written pattern is generally released a week or so after the video tutorial to ensure there are no errors in the video itself and to make amendments in the written version if any are found. All the written patterns are FREE to access on my website
How can I print the pattern from your website? Do you have downloadable PDF's? Not at this time no. This may change in the future but for now, I only provide the written pattern directly on my website.
Can you remake this video so it is slower? If the video speed is too fast, you can slow it down! 😀 See this video on exactly how: • How to Adjust the Spee...
Why do you use American stitch terminology? I learnt using USA stitch terms, long before I even knew there was a difference between UK & US terminology! American terms are my "first language" so to speak. If you need a conversion chart, I have one here! www.hookedbyrobin.com/crochet...

So beautiful...just like all your work. I'd like to ask you ...I got my yarn for my little blocks that are made with Ice Picasso rainbow and white. How many balls do I need of each to make a full size blanket. I bought bags of eight of both. I'm wondering if I should or one more bag of each.

IMO, you explain things SO well, you never have to worry about confusing anyone. Thank you! If you don't mind, I was wondering if it is possible for you to do a tutorial on a pattern called the "wiggly stitch." It's a two-process stitch. First you create a simple filet crochet base. Then, using that base, you work SC or DC over it, going back and forth with the pattern. I've seen it done, but the only examples I can find are so ugly and so basic (and usually in DC, though I think in SC it looks much nicer) that it's hard to imagine it as being nice. Yet I happened to see an example of one at a friend's house and it can be so pretty. ?? Well, I hope you consider it. I really love the way you explain everything. You make the hardest patterns so easy!

You made a University of Texas gingham blanket (on my screen it's orange, grey'ish, and white)! 🧡 There's a saying, "There's a little piece of me in everything I crochet." My hair also makes its way into my work, which is why I like that saying. :D 12:10 and 13:29 is where folks who struggle with the concept of starting chains + x can get an explanation of why it's 13, not 10. For those who need to visualize the math: 5th chain from the hook is the first dc And the second, so keep the number 2 in your head. 13 chains - 5 skips = 8 chains remaining 8 chains + 2 dc = 10 (8 additional dc will be made so the total equals 10 dc) Starting chains throw me off to this day when I'm trying to write my own patterns (admittedly, I haven't tried very hard), so I wanted to break it down for beginners.

I love that saying and thank you for the maths visual.😃🤗

Hi, Shyanha -- let me see if I can explain this correctly. You need 13 because those extra chains will make up your first double crochet. If you only did 10 chains, you'd fall short due to skipping whatever amount Robin says (I forget, sorry). I hope this explained it for you.

Crocheter here, and for a maximum coolness you could mount your beginning chain with the colors too, 10 CA, 10 CB by just adding the second color when its needed. It could be a little tricky for the beginners, but it's worth the corst.

This info isn't new to me, but the video caught my eye because of the ribbed border and the modern colors (I'm not always a fan of mustard, but this is great!). I watched just a couple minutes, so far, and I can say: you are my people! Breaking it down, analytically. Using math to calculate what you want, etc. That's how I like to work too. It's amazing how many people I've introduced to the idea of a scale for the yarn room but with a scale and some calculating, you can learn so much for your crocheting! Knowing the "why" and the foundational concepts behind a pattern gives those learning much better information than just one set amount of chains to chain. Working to dimensions rather than a particular gauge is my favorite way to work.

Thank you for sharing! I'm an intermediate crocheter, about 2 years in picking it up in my spare time, but your videos are so clear and you have so much patience repeating things that an almost beginner could watch this video and understand and recreate. And the fact you've included the pattern for this very one is wonderful, some people struggle with envisioning colourways, amounts of yarn, or the maths, and even if they follow without doing a gauge and it's not completely square, it will still look great! I downloaded some gingham crochet pattern videos a couple of three years ago, because I love the look of the gingham crocheted items. However they’ve been sitting in the vault, like I said for two or three years. You’ve made it look so simple and again I love listening to your voice, so I’m definitely going to give this a try. Weirdly perhaps, I’m going to do this in a prayer shawl style. Thank you again for all your videos❤ ❤❤

Thank you. You have helped me remember so many stitches. I’ve never done a gingham blanket, but took notes. I plan to make these blankets for my great grandchildren. I’m thinking one in blues, one in pinks and another in mint green shades. I’m excited to start. Thanks again.
