Hi Paul. You said the car moved outside the dealer net for servicing. The car spent a lot of time in Nottingham, Ristes Motor Company is an independent Rolls Royce specialist in Nottingham. Maybe they could enlighten you as to whether the car had been under their care.

Definitely make sure you use it. The worst thing for any car is to just be left sitting. I've recently bought a silver seraph and have been making full use of it after it having been left standing for the last 5 years by the previous owner. Interesting that this video has 500 views, but 3,900 likes..... you must be really liked by people :)

That was fascinating thanks Paul. I love having the history of an ‘old’ car. To have all those factory and Jack Barclay records is gold. Yes, definitely the car needs using and I reckon you will find it will get better and better with use. I always turn the heater on to get the water circulating and giving the AC a good run. Warm up the brakes etc. etc. I think you were just destined to get that car and good for you.

One thing all those invoices prove is just how much money you've saved by being able to do the work yourself! I can't even imagine what the bill would be if you were paying a RR mechanic to do it all. Yes, definitely drive and enjoy this car. Something I find interesting is that the dealers were _making_ the license plates. Here in the US (at least in California), the state Department of Motor Vehicles provides the plates. If you deface them in any way, say by adding the dealer's name, that might get you pulled over. 🙂 Cheers!

It is possible that the reference to No Radio Telephone and Telephone Aerial Kit is to a radio system that was available before mobile phones became widespread. It relayed to and from POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service). It would make sense that the owner had a mobile phone installed by somebody other than Rolls Royce later on. A lead would be research when the mobile phone model first became available and compare the date with when the car was built.

That was very interesting. Almost makes me want to go and find an old Rolls just so I could get its history too! Probably 'luck' is the wrong word as your observation and tenacity came into play, but perhaps serendipity played a part in that car finding you: It has certainly arrived at a great home and long may you enjoy it. The original owner certainly had good taste in his specification!

I almost feel like I shouldn't say this, but please take it as a sympathetic comment, not a nasty jealous type thing. Whilst I find it incredible that you have what is/was one of the best cars in the world's build history, what staggers me is that for a hand built vehicle, it seemed to have an awful lot of niggles detected once built. On the other hand, the flaws picked up on the initial inspection may well have been missed on lesser vehicles. Then, despite the lads at Crewe's best efforts, Jack Barclay also had to undertake remedial work before handing it over to the customer. I mean how bad were these defects? If you are striving for perfection, then the slightest flaw will be picked up, but I wonder how many of us would have noticed them? Amazing insight into RR construction standards.

My own cars' histories reveal...a sad man who wrote down EVERY service visit, EVERY refueling with mileage driven, fuel consumed, and even WHICH filling station I used. I wrote down when tyres were switched out between winter and summer...and the mileage at which this was done. You'd be bored to tears with my documentation. Even I was nettled when I first transferred the paper records of my first car into electronic spreadsheets starting in 1987. OMG! "Boffin" is not the word for me. "Anal retentive" is nearer the mark... I've looked at the histories of my cars, and they just remind me of what I was doing with my life back then... Not a lot!😆🤣 My cars were my diary, I think. And, yes! I concur that you should drive the (wheel) nuts off this car. It's had a boring "life" so far. Take Mrs. Life on Cars to China and back in this or visit the Arctic Circle like Harry Metcalfe did with his Shadow! There are more adventures to be had, more tales to be written...and more spreadsheets entries to make. Well...maybe not hat last bit. Maybe spreadsheets go too far... Anyway, much aloha to you. Keep warm and dry...and above all...happy!

You need to fix the wheel trims/outer rings, BEFORE inflating the tyres, otherwise you will loose them, like the first owner! And to the options, fitted later than the build sheet indicates: can be that Jack Barclay ordered the car for their showroom, and when the first owner bought, he wanted telephone etc. installed by the dealer before delivery?! 😊
