Glad to see an actual real life test of this vehicle! its efficiency just proves how good of a C model it really is!

Look forward to seeing it used with soft snow. Love the shots at the end.

The almighty Digtron! It has to be said, though, starting digging has got to be the hardest part because there's no tunnel to push against, so even if your snow was soft enough you'd still be struggling. Great job, regardless! I love it!
@julienribi9722 жыл бұрын
I might not have done tunnel boring, but in pipeline boring, a small bit is sent to start the guide hole, and it it reamed back and forth until the hole is wide enough for the pipe.
@TheThirdModel2 жыл бұрын
Very interesting, thanks for the information. As far as I know, large TBMs don't do a guide hole. However, a pipeline boring machine could be a nice model in its own right.

It looks like wet and compact snow, a difficult test. Powder snow / un-compacted may have been a better result.

But of an old one but might try adding cutting wheels? i know the small umbrella like pieces with the crossaxle support could function. they'd greatly reduce friction and probably yield similar results.

i am late to the party, but last month or so a another YT channel build a LTM and dug through sand whilst laying tunnel wall so it could rest on it. Its head was really good at slicing through that sand

Can you try using sand? It is a lot more malleable and easier to dig through, especially if you mix it with a binder to make it stick.
@TheThirdModel2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking of trying casting sand. My only concern is how much the sand will damage the plastic gears and other moving components. And cleaning it afterwards...

Is there a failure in the instruction, step 281? If I assemble the parts like there, the black gear turns in the opposite direction the grey ones above do. It can't work, so I removed the black gear and the boring head turns.
@TheThirdModel Жыл бұрын
Apologies for not seeing your comment earlier! From what I can see, Step 281 is correct. Perhaps check that all of the 12 tooth bevel gears (LEGO part number 6589) are in the correct position in the drivetrain: Steps 109, 156, and 160. I hope that helps!

I might try casting sand, although it may be hard to clean afterwards and might damage the plastic.
