Thanks Brad! First use of tunnel seen on video: @ 3:28 Cybertruck entering the building from the wrong direction. @ 5:36 Cybertruck exiting the tunnel. Substation expansion project: @ 11:42 Medium voltage switches installed on their support structures. Trench to medium voltage circuit breaker set. Used for conduits and control cables. Substation expansion phase 2: @ 11:17 (Bottom left) Drill rig truck for soil core samples. It was taking core samples in the area yesterday on Joe's video. Likely in preparation for expanding the substation to add 2 more bays and 2 more transformers. New Megapack site: @ 12:04 to 12:39 They continue to drive screw piles down the middle. @ 12:13 (Towards the top) Crew pounding stakes into the ground. Possibly marking the positions for another row of screw piles. Vaults, northside of casting: @ 13:39 (Bottom right) No change, just a reminder of work completed so far.... Vault on the left... Cables pulled through into the building on 4 cable ducts. Existing Megapack site: @ 10:43 Switches to backup power are open. Not sure if those switches have ever been closed. If I remember correctly, the interconnection agreement does call for backup power to be operated in a normally open configuration, but... The one line diagram shows circuit breakers that are normally open. Having to manually close switches in a power outage will be a pain in the backside.
@WarrenLacefield2 күн бұрын
Cable ducts at 13:39. I was looking closely at that too. A reminder of significant completions, yes; but also it is evident that many conduits are still empty. And that there is not much hurry either. I think they will be happy to get just one MV line set running and powered from T3 to Cortex, maybe by the end of Q1 this year. As for the switches, you would know far better than me. But I assumed all that was controlled from the associated control room. Maybe not, but I sure wouldn't want to be running around inside the substation any time ...
@DavidJohnson-tv2nn2 күн бұрын
@@WarrenLacefield 13:39 yes, only 4 out of a total of 16 cable ducts are filled. And it is not clear if those cables are energized, due to the fact that there is no power from T3. Which is why I've been saying that it is highly unlikely that they have 150 MW available to the supercomputer as some have suggested. I agree, end of Q1 is a more reasonable timeline for 150 MW availability. Switches.... My understanding is that while all circuit breakers and some switches can be remotely operated.... Unfortunately, those open switches for backup power @10:43 are manually operated using a 'hot stick' (a telescoping insulated pole). Not something I would want to do either at night in bad weather, or anytime for that matter. Also, I think only authorized personal are allowed in substations. Its not like they can pull a guy off the assembly line and tell him to go out there and turn the power back on. 😊
@WarrenLacefield2 күн бұрын
@@DavidJohnson-tv2nn Well, perhaps in case of maintenance or even power failure, the current megapack site can carry the load for an hour or so, while authorized personnel can manually operate those switches using "hot sticks."
@DavidJohnson-tv2nn2 күн бұрын
@@WarrenLacefield There in lies the problem. Backup power to the site from the Megapacks is fed through those switches. In the event of an outage, no backup power is available until those switches are closed. Technically there may be a workaround if LCRA cooperates. By opening certain circuit breakers in the LCRA substation.... T1, T2, and T3 can be isolated from the grid and fed power from the high voltage side of the BESS substation. But again, that is only in theory. No guaranty LCRA would be willing to do that. By the way, by any chance do you have a copy of the interconnection agreement? If you do, page 48 is a really good resource. It has a one line diagram that shows all the switches and circuit breakers in both substations.
@WarrenLacefield2 күн бұрын
@@DavidJohnson-tv2nn I have a 2021 copy of the interconnection agreement. But that is old news. Can't seem to quickly locate an updated version. In case of a major failure (brownout, blackout, etc.), like all power "customers," I'd just depend/assume the designers/experts know what they are doing and have proper plans. In that sort of chaos, things need to happen fast. Manually controlling HV switches in a chain of substations (especially with battery backups) (or even in home garages) seems ... problematic. Of course, maybe if there is no power, manual is the only way to get some things done.

00:09 Perhaps the most famous US warming stations are the powerhouses down in Florida that provide hot tub service for thousands of manatees during winter. These are endangered marine mammals that have altered their natural migrations and patterns in response to us dumping warm water during winter months. Some of these plants are getting old and need to be closed. What to do about the manatees is a huge deal at this point. Worse, is what do we do If they have to shut down suddenly during a severe cold snap? Gather up the manatee-cicles and call it a bad day? Yeah, not a pretty thought.

@@Bill_N_ATX I gather they formerly would have travelled to South America. We have a similar related species here, the Dugong.

Brad, did you get the impression that this Saturday is different from previous ones in the sense that cars are being produced? Maybe extra shifts started in January. Joe already reported higher production activities but as yet no word from him on extra shifts. I would have been happy for you to have the scoop of the CT production line delivering into the tunnel, but to me it still looks a bit like final checks/inspections... And I fancied a driver sitting inside that CT as well! I guess we have to await a special announcement on X (hint, hint,... Please!) with a drone following the CT's from production line through the tunnel to EOL.

Lol, no I watch every video from Joe and Brad and can honestly say manufacturing is slowing. I suspect the weekend manufacturing is test runs. With 6000 less staff I really don't see a ramp up but a slow down of manufacturing. The parking lots are not as full as before, and why ramp up if sales are dropping? From reports I have read tesla has exhausted the reservation list for cybertruck obviously with most cancelling. And are struggling to find customers, I suspect due to the lack of promised features and not 40 000 price but 100 000 price tag. Just look at the castings stored outside, nowhere near as many as there once was. Musk did say cybertruck could destroy tesla, let's hope not.

@Frank-gt7me2 күн бұрын
if so, then the tunnel doesn’t save them any driving time or distance. It may have headed back to the factory for another test run. 3:23 shows a CT driving into the exit on the factory.

Likely going back for another loop through the tunnel as part of a test.
@bigtvjunky91192 күн бұрын
@@DavidJohnson-tv2nn I doubt it. They need to reconfigure everything to the right of the tunnel. There is just too much traffic going around between the chargers, outbound lots, test track, and EOL building. There is no good place for cars to line up before entering the EOL building except what they had been doing already. Which was around the outside of the outbound lots.
