@@crazyoilfieldmechanic3195 I've got a 496 in 78 C-3 Vette and trying to figure out how to twin turbo a tunnel ram with two 660! Why? Pure grins and who put a 496 in a 78 Vette except a gear head with stage 3 NOS...lol. Tuning will be a bear or worst but have O2 sensors on all primary header pipes. Then after the laughing guess have a few 660 looking for a home. I had a speed shop in the 80's and lot of goodies left over under the bed...lol! Anybody seen twin turbo tunnel ram on Big Block Chevy?

Take a look at the Summit Carbs (made by Holley) and compare the features with the higher priced Holley and Demons. Large annular discharge boosters Dual power valves Dual feed float bowls Dual float windows, of the glass not plastic type No sink center hung floats The Summit 750 mechanical secondary carb is a hell of a deal at $320 VS almost twice that for the Holly or Demon. If you look up the latest episode of Engine Masters you will see one tie a very expensive Holley in power across the entire rev range.

The Summit brand carbs are a smoking deal!!! I did a bunch of Dyno testing Carb Boosters about 10 years ago.. On a heated intake the basic Holley Straight leg boosters do a great job, because the heat vaporizes the fuel for you... On a AirGap style manifold the stepped downleg boosters is almost a toss up compared to Annulars.. on Tall Single planes and Tunnel Rams... Annulars are the way to go!

I really like the 660s...on a tunnel Ram....They work well with a stick shift or transbrake....But the One area they dont work that well is the Foot brake....or Stabbing the throttle....they always seem to stumble....i think your truck would leave better with twin 650 double pumpers....theres enough "pump shot"...to eliminate that initial stumble when you footbrake a car or truck....keep testing...we enjoy it...👍

we had a fan on a built 327 and it was all out for pump gas we had to drop the fan because the engine would rev. so fast the rest of it could not keep up and would twist the steel crank end right off at 5000 to repair it cost was way to high but the engine came out of rick news dragster then we put 25000 in to it to give an idea what we had

@Brandon Carpenter i guess u are right that old man bell did not know what he was doing because this was out of his mouth and that this is exactly what happens when u build the shit out of a engine and don't drop the belt it will twist the crank right off but u need to really build it not no flat track engine that is a joke to drag engines most of ur flat track engines are mostly stock do u even know who bell is only a legend at building racing engines and after dropping the belt i never twisted the crank off y do u think drag cars don't run belts because they rev too quick for them just like u would say that my 327 would not do 15,000 rpms but it as been there a few times this is a hole different level of building engines then a flat track engine just like blowers will twist the crank right off the heads i had were 202 angle plug ported to 204 and we ported the ports witch stander headers do not fit u have to get custom headers to cover the ports witch this kind of work cost over 4000 to do to a set of heads did u guy's put that kind of money in a flat track engine did u guy's season the block witch takes a year to do i don't think so then u will say on pump gas u can;t go over 10.5 to 1 on compression but i was running 13 to 1 on pump gas 92 octane but the book will tell u the highest u can go is 13.5 to 1 on 92 to run 87 i would have to change my timing then when u build a engine most people do not understand about the balance of a engine most people think balance the parts yes that is just part of it u also need to balance the flow air and fuel when u get that perfect it really comes a live just like under cab u can over cab this y dyno tuning is important but how many time u guy's dyno tune ur flat track engine never i bet because it is not cheap but u most have balls of steel to say old man bell don't know anything this is the man that helped me for years plus i lived next door to terry fisher for years i get parts from these people all the time second had but they work not only that u can say anything u like to me i will just remember it because i have one of the best project car collection i only keep rust free cars part and scrap the rest i scrap cars that would blow ur mind but i can only have 10 acres of project rigs most of them i got free i can even teach u how to get good engines like a ho 454 or a 440 mag i just got 2 ho 454 crate engines for free one has 6000 miles on it the other has 38,000 on it both have steel cranks heavy rods witch to go and buy complete new is about 12,000 and they both came with heavy duty 400 turbo's witch has the heavy pump heavy clutches just needs a stage 3 shift kit but then again i don't know anything so good luck with it then i just picked up a 79 short box 4x4 with very low miles on it in perfect mint condition been parked in a shop it's hole life full option truck 400 sb with 400 turbo for free plus got a bunch of other rigs with it last week i got a 65 short box chevy all complete just don't run with a 283 in it for a 100 bucks just a little rust in the front fenders in front of the doors but have good fenders fore it just gave my friend a newer chevy 4x4 with a ls 350 in it for free just needed the transmission rebuilt u should see the high boy i got for 250 bucks dana 60/80 but then again i have no idea what i am doing this is y i could retire at 42 and get a check every month and have no bills but internet and taxes witch is under a 1000 a year so i can build cars for a hobby means u know so much about drag racing on the west coast witch is the best 1/4 track to run but if u don't live on the west coast no need to answer but if u do then u would know if u been on all of them . plus i have a road we drag all the time by my house just about every week end that we are not at the track and if u want to drag race my class on the street is full body cars factory models not cutting down weight pump gas only no nitro street tires must drive on road no trailer queens drive train all out but u have to run pump gas only is the trick so do u run boost or not and just go with tunnel ram u probably go boost do u go fuel injection or carb witch will work better can i run a peddle or do i need help with tuning now i read the first line of u the quit if u read all of this i made it were i used no punctuation in it just so if u read all of this u are an idiot

I don't think there's a huge debate between mechanical having a little more power than vac secondaries, it's how much of a difference that is. You'll use a lot less gas with carbs out of the box using a vac secondary carb compared to mechanical secondaries. The difference I saw in my Dad's BBC, was about a .1" slower with a vacuum secondary but used a lot less gas at the track. You've done some great tuning, so I think you have a much better debate to discuss. The internet trolls love double pumpers, but the vac secondaries are very good once you've done some spring tuning.

Does the vacuum secondary setup have a problem with uneven fueling from side to side on the motor? I would think that having the carbs crosswise it would get more fuel on the right side until full throttle and wound out where the secondaries are wide open as well. Do you run separate AFR on each side to see how it is fueling? I'm looking at doing a tunnel ram with AVS2 carbs on it they will be mounted fore and aft.

James I do have 02's in both header collectors there is a slight difference between banks at part throttle but you have to remember that 4 butterflies are opening at once so it doesn't take much throttle opening cruising around but once you hammer the throttle the afrs stabilize pretty quick once the secondaries open.. @@UnityMotorSportsGarage Thanks so much for the reply! Did you start with your idle circuits restricted with a wire or leave them stock in the beginning? I know you made it a jetted circuit later. I started with the wire trick and got it close to where it needed to be...the problem for me was finding the right size wire.. so once I seen I was making progress...that is when I decided to make my own restrictors so I could get it right... But the wire trick will get you in the ballpark... You wouldn't believe how smooth it made it just putting around town... Tunnel rams and double pumper carbs will always make a dead spot from low throttle to wide open as the distance between the carb and the combustion chamber creats a lag between too lean and rich enough air/fuel ratio. Best to run a vac secondary carb to smooth that out or have a high stall on a trans brake. Only other option is to richen the idle bleed to run fat and sooty to compensate. Not good for street driving as the plugs foul and engine oil dilutes with fuel. Many give it away and run port injected efi or mechanical for this very reason.

I'm putting a elderbrock tunnel ram on a fresh 408 chevy small block going in my 73 Nova. The mechanic told me to buy 600s. But, I can't remember what cam or other internals are in it and I'm waiting on the list. Are 600s too big? I'm also running 4:11 Dana rear 3 spd trans which I'm taking out for a 4 spd stage 3 from Monster. I have the frame stability bars etc. Retired track car from Delmar Speedway in Delaware. Any advice?

No, the 600's will make for a good setup! There are some things you will probably need to do to them to "Dial them in". 1st add 50cc Accelerator pumps to both carbs and run 31 squirter nozzles in both carbs 2nd tie the vacuum secondary pots together with a vacuum hose... This will make sure that the Secondaries open exactly at the same time 3rd. You will need to play with jetting. I ran 66 Jets in the front and enlarged the Power Valve Channel Restrictors to around .050" this is so you run a bit on the lean side during cruise but at WOT you have the fuel you need! If you have any questions feel free to hit me up! Thanks Andy

SINCE WHEN 1850 HOLLEY HAVE A REAR METERING BLOCK.

And stepped downleg boosters!!! I had worked them over basically to make them the best that they could be... I tried to run them with just the metering plates when I first started messing with Tunnel Rams years ago... I even ran the plates were you could run Jets in the plate. To get a consistent AFR the metering blocks are the easiest way to go... I even run metering blocks on my 4224's! It's one of the best things you can do to a Holley 4160 !!!!!

Ur first thing is your running a Ford not a Chevy and second If you build the motor right on a chevy 1968 u better off running 750 Holly's Dubl pumpers no Vac Its hared to build good Vac with a high out put motor and a Tunnel Ram with Dual Carbs Sideways with bell cranks and I promise U friend I will drag you down the track
