There's some things that are explained. I'm also assuming you're using take of two wastelands since corn doesn't grow in default Fallout 3 and Evan doesn't have a grenade rifle by default. Ronald of Girdershade has raider buddies. Tied into the unmarked Naughty Nightwear and All Nighter Nightwear quests. Explaining why the raider leave him alone. And Lamplight has scavengers that go out and search for food. Those scavengers also bring in kids they find. You also can bring Bryan from Grayditch here instead of to his Aunt In River City. So there's the assumption that some wastelands might bring orphans there as a mercy. Aswell as the less than savory idea that the teenagers of lamplight are having kids before they leave. Which is depressing but also possible.

Another thing about Big Town is that if you save the town, you can encounter a scavenger in the wasteland with a brahmin and a dog/yao guai who says he is on his way to Big Town. When he arrives, he stays there permanently, giving the town another trader, and some extra defense coming from the scavenger and his pet. And in Canterbury Commons, if you recruit Sergeant RL-3 as a companion at the RobCo factory and then dismiss him, he will travel to the town and guard its entrance, adding further protection. Though all of this relies on the Lone Wanderer's actions.

@@nvRanger Fallout 3 didn't really have any harvestable plants outside of Point Lookout. It's crazy that there aren't any harvestable plants but for some reason Bethesda was really paranoid about people comparing fo3 to Oblivion and removed a lot of features to make fo3 feel more unique. I definitely wouldn't have minded ridable animals or shields. Oasis is the only place that canonically can grow food in fo3 except the lab in Rivet city(the room with plants was also added in TTW). It's never explained if the lab in Rivet city produces vegetables in large quantities or it's just a science project. Plants don't grow anywhere in the capital wasteland. The plants in oasis are FEV creations and can grow in highly irradiated areas. The lack of reliable food sources is a big deal in fo3 and I feel like TTW kind of missed the point by adding farms everywhere. People being willing to kill each other or become cannibals for food feels a bit off if they could just start a farm in their backyard.

Great video. I feel like for growth there could also be the additional consideration of children: Rivet City and Megaton have some children and some facilities for schooling (actually, I can't remember if Megaton has any - which if that's the case setting up a school might be something?). And so while you're alive in these places they might grow via birthrate and at the very least you'll have a few generations of kids grow up in your lifetime, etc etc. On that front unless the Underworld gets some smoothskin settlers? They're not making any kids down there (On the plus side ghouls are seemingly immortal or at least incredibly long lived, so there is that).
@nvRangerКүн бұрын
Yea definitely worth considering. I don’t think Megaton has a school, just the Church of Atom. I can’t remember a school in Rivet city either tbh. Not saying it’s not there. The settlement needs to be well equipped to have kids there, otherwise they become a liability, unfortunately

Elite list with three disagreements: While I get your logic, I think Tenpenny is too perfect of a location in all its other categories to put below B Tier. Similarly I would have put Big Town in D tier and Girdershade in F tier. I think there's way larger growth and development potential for big town considering the fact that they're all literally houses and there is a doctor and able-bodied population. Girdershade on the flip side is barely a place with one likely hostile resident. My only other thought is the lush-ness of Oasis probably implies a significant amount of clean groundwater, even if it hasn't been discovered yet so to speak.
@nvRanger22 сағат бұрын
Awesome, love the discussion. I agree Tenpenny is legit, but it is reinforced how difficult it is to gain long-term stay. I do agree Big Town has a ton of potential but there are people regularly being killed or abducted by the sounds of it. They are very close to Germantown Police Station AND Paradise Falls, and their Doctor/Leader is in a cell surrounded by Super Mutants. Girdershade is definitely terrible lol. Also for Oasis the water in the underground cave is irradiated. Maybe there is a source but the growth is a product of an FEV mutant, so i'd imagine it is all irradiated.

I gotta say, not to bash on Bethesda or anything, I quite like FO3 But i gotta say, it has always irked me how most towns in this game are like... 3 settlers and 2 houses big. Like, the average raider camp is at least 5 raiders strong, how tf can the raider population be sustained or not churn through every town and settlement they come across? Like, I know that there were probably some optimization issues but in FO3 we also have THE MILLS AREA, ya know, Raider central? There's like, more raiders out in the open in that single place than I think there are people in Megaton, and if you count the guys inside there's a chance the population rivals that of Rivet City. Why oh why couldn't we just have some more unnamed settlers walking around everywhere, you don't even have to create houses for them, okaces like river city and megaton have comunal sleeping areas. I guess having towns be less populated helps with a feeling of isolation and helplessness? But then again, How the f*** is Canterbury a "trading spot" when there's like 5 people settling the place, wouldn't they prefer somewhere like Tenpenny tower? Where we can assume most people are loaded with cash and there's, ya know, A WALL.
@nvRanger22 сағат бұрын
Like I said, people can’t get into Tenpenny easily. Very exclusive. There are a ton of raiders, slavers, and mutants. I think the biggest thing would be to organize them across the map more sensibly. There are a ton of super mutants around Rivet City, how do people even reliably get there?

This video really points out how silly most towns in F3 are and questions quickly rise. Like why is a Mr handy like Codsworth the lone wanderers personal butler when he could help out the town
@nvRanger3 сағат бұрын
Fallout 3 does things for game purposes and often forgets to make it make sense. It is jarring at times. They want you to just accept things, rather than ask how or why it works.

Regarding the population of Little Lamplight: humans become fertile before the age of 16, so they actually could sustain their population by themselves...

22:30 for some reason I guess I'd have the child at heart perk. 24:42 big towners as well as any wastelander incapable of caring for their babies brought their children to Little Lamplight so they'd be raised in a safe place. Also teenage pregnancy.
@nvRanger10 сағат бұрын
so the kids raise the kids better than the adults can... wild
@Yumao4209 сағат бұрын
@nvRanger first of all it's a cultural thing for Bigtowners. They'll see their kid again when they are 16 and able to see for themselves, so they send them to Little Lamplight out of custom. Also Super-mutants and Deathclaws do well in keeping the slavers away, that's why you get one of the best armour pieces in the game for getting a Lamplighter, because it makes you a legend among slavers as much as the Boogeyman is for the kids. Also, the cave fungus is such a massive boon. People really underestimate cancer and the effects of pollution on growth. The reason the Lone Wonderer is amongst the tallest characters in the game even as a 19 year old girl is that life outside the vault is harsh. The only reasons preventing Big Towners from being 5-10 centimetres taller than other wastelanders is that they stop consuming cave fungus at 16 as well as the muscular issues due to lack of sunlight. If we could set up a trade line between Little Lamplight and Big Town in Fallout 3, Macready could have been two or three inches taller in Fallout 4.

I appreciate the idea but definitely not. I have too much going on and I am not an expert. I don't want to lead people astray into an unstable game. My load order is constantly shifting around. This is TTW which probably isn't compatible with such a thing unless you get TTW setup first. I follow Viva New Vegas or The Best of Times and add upon that. Desert Natural Weathers, Neutral Weathers, and New Vegas Reloaded do a lot of the heavy lifting for visuals.

from what I recall, they put the dead adults on the fungus and it ate them and grew more. The original crew were kids left in the caves during a field trip when the Great War occured. All the adults either died or left and never returned. That's also why they do not allow adults in, they have a culture built on a lack of trust and abandonment issues. Kinda sad

The family wasent working with the west familys son in arifu they Coverd for him. He was a cannable that lost control of his urges. the family knew swooped in picked him up and coverd for him. It was less eon west working for them and more they were keeping tabs. Still ur point stands and i get it. Not a good town. I perfer megaton yes it has a atom bomb in the center but they do havea water purifyer much like dimond city its old and needs constent upkeep but they have one. they also have walls a sheriff a gate and a couple guards. megaton or rivet city. as a side note water purifyers exist in fallout they are seen all around the commonwealth. and is likely what the water plant in megaton was supposed to be. The jefferson memorial was just a super scaled verson ment to delever water to the entire wastland. hence why it had special needs. water purifyers are just typicly a small scale thing not grand like the purifer in dc.
