This year I spent a lot of time looking at Rans. Its a great plane that fits my mission the best.

I’ve seen 138KTAS WOT at FL190 at 8.5gph and 133KTAS at FL230 at 7.4gph in a Rans S21 Rotax powered 915 with 26” tundra tires. Down low I can also do 100KTAS at 5gph and 75KTAS at 3.5gph as well. Whatever your desired altitude is you can’t beat how smooth and simple to operate this engine is. Amazing airframe and engine combo.

The S21 seems prefect for the Viking 195T.... love that engine for smoothness, power, and reliability (Honda power). Flying backcountry I would want the extra power of the 195T and would never consider the Titan (no turbo). I have flown the 195T in the CH750SD and was very impressed with the power output/torque...and exceptionally smooth! I am former military aviation, major airlines, and A&P background (30 years in Aviation).

With that Pedegree, you should know the Rotax and c/s prop is an all round better polished engine than the Vikining…

@@Captndarty I actually love the reliability of the Honda based Viking Engine, how smooth it is, the engine ECU, and the sturdy gearbox... so I have no issues with Vikings Engines.

@@neualgo_systemsI’m with you on a Rans 21 with a Viking 195T but unfortunately Rans turns their nose up with Viking on support.

Nice video and cool airplane. What GPH numbers? Did not hear actual values.

Thank-you. There are only Lawyers and Government-bureaucrats standing in the way of this 915IS… 180hp would be easy. Sad.

It will be intersting to see what comes to market or what upgrades happen in the coming years for this platform.

@@ExperimentalAircraftChannel WE LOOK AT WATERCRAFT PERFORMANCE AND SEE SOME BIG NUMBERS...2-300 HP TURBO 4 CYLINDERS AND THEN THE YAMAHA SNOWMOBILE 4STROKE APEX ENGINE IN SOME STOL AIRCRAFT I THINK 300 HP ? SO 140 IS PEANUTS.

@@crashalexander7232 what you completely fail to see is sustained horse power not the momentary burst. Water craft engines don’t last worth a damn wide open on the lake.

@@Captndarty sure they do ....it aint the wide open for miles that kills them..... its the loading and unloading of the drive train on the rev limiter 2000 times a day..!!! jumping waves and in rough water probly more like 2000 time an hour point is the tech is there and being used as the coolest stol plane in competition is powered by a snowmobile engine!!!
@Captndarty2 жыл бұрын
@@crashalexander7232 STOL competition is still a huge minority in experimental aviation. No one wants to listen to an engine whine at 8000 rpm’s at 55% power on a XC. Many have installed such and engine and have commented of how they don’t like it other than it being dirt cheap in comparison

I’m surprised to see it setup to take induction air from inside the cowl. Seems it would benefit from getting cooler air from outside. This considering how much inner cowl heat is generated by the turbo.
@flexairz2 жыл бұрын
Correct... I would create a NACA air inlet to feed the turbo
@Captndarty Жыл бұрын
The cooler air is derived from the intercooler intake more so than induction air directly into the turbo. Manifold temps are low and work perfectly

Well with Supply Chain issues in nearly every industry, it is good to have options to get Aircraft actually into the Air. RANS is an SLSA Manufacturer and need engines (production engines) from companies that can deliver in production. Also need to be ASTM certified/approved. So that sort of limits the playing field of availability if you think about it. This was reported on because it is "First-in-Airframe" for RANS. Which engine would you like to see in high production? Thanks for watching.

Who cares? Anyone who wants an engine that will make TBO with zero issues, like I have once, and now am halfway to doing again, with my 912S.
@crawford3232 жыл бұрын
@@portnuefflyer If you got the money, they will gladly take it. Between the glass panels, the lack of affordability of the engines, at the least, the cost of kit prices, these factors are causing serious divisions of affordability. Who can blame them for charging what the market will bear from those who have this kind of disposable income. I have owned three certified aircraft in my lifetime and the most I spent was $12k. My first a ragged but dependable Cessna with a low time engine for $5k in the mid nineties. Today buyers seem to be happy as a cat with the canary but even those who are charging this premium and receiving the same should see these days are fast coming to an end. Get it while you can. I wonder what the average gross income of todays kit plane, LSA buyers are? Maybe the EVs are the affordable answer to future flight. My head hurts to even think that.
