Good info here, It may help guys understand that the root cause and effect here is the amount of heat you’re building inside the combustion chamber, so getting that heat to build quickly and transferring it as efficiently as possible to the drive side of the turbo. The expansion rate of the exhaust gases are the driving mechanism for building boost.

Cubic inch & compression......exactly! Thank you for addressing especially the compression part which many seem not to understand, including so-called professionals. And for all of you who are watching this , I'm going to tell you that with over 20 years experience building high performance engines and high-end modifications myself, Devin is somebody you want to listen to. Out of the countless videos out there he is one of the few who are dead on point. I have yet to see him give bad information , and in fact give very good information. See it's real easy does sound like you know what you're talkin about when those who are listening have no clue, or very little. And unfortunately I have seen so-called professionals, even from well-known companies, give redundant and outright terrible information. I don't know but I'll be the first to call it out. Maybe it's because 20 + years ago I wish there was somebody to do the same. I understand what it's like when you work hard for a living and you end up wasting a bunch of time and money because of people giving a bunch of contradictive and or bad advice.

I absolutely respect the way this video was executed! People try to copy what the next person did in a build that is completely different from their own, even if some of the specs are similar, and he can't understand why it doesn't work the way they thought. Well this guy did this that and this and so either you should or I should do the same. When in fact engine building is a combination of all the individual components together, and then the same applies to the vehicle it's being installed in, in that the combination of everything as a whole, and then the desired result and personal preference to top it off. A carbon copy of what the next person did may not work for you. And so yes Devin never told anybody to do this or that! LOL! How true

Working with smaller engines can be tough and you need to have patience. My twin 76mm 370" sbc in our drag n drive truck makes 1277hp at 7,200rpm and 26lbs of boost. At 3,500rpm with no boost, I dont think it makes even 300hp here in Denver. It was hard to find a good balance in the converter. Something driveable yet loose enough it would spool. I think we had it out of the truck 7 or 8 times to change a stator or cover.

What would you recommend to look into if I have no issues getting to the chip at 4200rpm very quick, however it’s only at 0-1psi when it get there and takes a long time sitting on chip to get to 8-10psi. I’ve been removing timing in an adv table like u said but it still seems sluggish. Maybe add fuel now with it?

@@theholleyefiguy i havnt tried it yet but the way I did it was create another adv table with a target afr offset and went -1.3 as to richen the target while on chip to around 10.5:1 from 1-10psi. Unless u think that’s totally wrong I may try that next. Also leaned it out .5 getting up to chip to 13.5 from 13.0

Hi ! Devin i want to add a procharger to my engine the engine is brand new and i was told i had to lower my compression in order to run a procharger when i was getting the motor built i wanted 1200 hp to 1400 hp told the builder that i wanted it to run on pump gas I have decided i was gunna run race fuel or a mix of pump gas and race fuel i wanted to drive it on the street but maybe its not feesible so the builder got me 804 hp on pump gas and 1043 hp with a hundred shot of nos on 13.5 to 1 compression a friend told me i need to change the pistons to lower the compression to run a procharger like i said i decided to not run pump gas and just go to the race track no street racing Do you think i can run the procharger without changing the pistons i am holley efi ,mpfi , crank trigger, it is ford 351 dart blocked, holley dominator V5 ecu And also this is my first time building a car for racing so and well i said that wrong i didnt build it i funded the build and told the builders what i wanted im 50 + and this has been a dream of mine for quite some time i have learned alot from your channel And would appreciate your advise

@@cristianbustos4918 You’re absolutely correct, There are a lot of people who do not know what a timing light is and that is OK! But if you are working on a race engine or any type of forced induction engine you should really know what a timing light is and how to use it correctly, If you don’t you definitely should not be working on the engine! There is no way a person can set the timing perfectly without the use of a timing light or computerized equipment!

So this is kinda funny. I wire, plumb and tune cars. If I was a jack of all trades like most people, I would suck at all of the above. I wonder why engine builders aren't also chassis builders, and general fabricators and wiring guys, and tuners, and tire mounting guys and transmission builders? Probably cause they're smart enough to know they can't excel in all facets of cars. Only the dumb believe they are good at everything

They only difference between that race car and someone with a 5.3 is the size of the wallet. Grassroots racing is what is all about. Just because someone throws bags of money at their race car doesn’t make them more of a “Man” and you sure spend a lot time talking down on people of lesser means or lesser skills. Maybe you forgot that everyone starts out in Life as a “Helper”.

Maybe you should listen to the context instead of being triggered over a joke.

98mm turbocharger is way too big for a 400 cubic inch engine he needs to be using a 78mm at the smallest to a 86mm at the largest size instead because the engine displacement doesn't provide enough exhaust flow to properly spool up the turbo the proper engine displacement for a 98mm turbocharger is 460 cubic inch or larger displacement engine for a small block or go with a big block of 7 liters or larger displacement.

@@theholleyefiguy where is the intercooler at because without it the air density is going to be very lousy colder the air intake charge is the more power you can achieve and a 98mm turbo is nearly a 4 inch turbo and the placement of the turbo that low will suck a lot of heat because of how close it is to the track a twin 76mm setup with the turbos placed high up by the firewall will do much better for higher power output because each turbo can spool up much faster because it is closer to the exhaust manifold which means less turbo lag.
