I started using PTFE coated AN lines for my fuel system, and I put them in the tunnel. I used bulkhead fittings on the front and back. In the front, it's fairly easy to add the bulkhead fittings, but you have to make sure they don't get in the way of removing the shift rod out the front. On the rear, I like to put the bulkhead fittings underneath the shift coupler where the tunnel raises up. I can actually reach those fittings with wrenches and everything even with the shift rod in place. They end up high enough that they are not exposed. This way, if you bottom the car out, or hit a rock or something, you don't hit your fuel lines or fittings. I'm always concerned about that kind of thing, plus I like to use the channel you put the fuel lines in, to put chassis stiffeners in. This is not a criticism, as your build is really nice, just the way I like to do things.
@JWClassicVW2 жыл бұрын
I thought about the tunnel as well but really like the way I ran it. I may do the tunnel with a future build.

I've seen a lot of different intercooler placements for these turbo engines, but they always make me wonder if they work very well, because of two things. How is airflow going to get through it, and secondarily, it seems like whatever airflow went through the intercooler, is going to be sucked right into the cooling system having considerably heated air coming into the cooling system, instead of ambient air temperatures. It seems like you would have problems driving these cars for any distance without overheating problems, but there are enough people doing similar things that it makes me wonder. I love to hear your results in terms of intake air temps, and cylinder head temps when you drive this over a long distance/period of time.

Yup, there are so many factors to consider with the intercooler and how well it works. I'm definitely curious as well to how it performs over a long trip or driving around town for a couple hours.

Anybody have a very ruff estimate too rebuild an engine too this state?
@JWClassicVW2 жыл бұрын
Total custom build... I worked with a close friend and picked up the motor and trans for a killer deal. My rough guess for just the transmission and motor with the same internals and custom turbo bits would be around 35k. There are builders out there that can build a turbo motor similar to this without an intercooler for around 22-25k. This doesn't include the ECU and the 100s of hrs. spent building out the suspension, fuel system and other custom mods.
