You’re so close man, don’t let the one setback discourage you…. You know how these VW’s like to give us problems 😂 I’m running the Valvoline 80/90 like you in the gearbox, it’s GL4 and my builder said it’s just fine and no need to go crazy.

For gear oil just make sure it is gl-4 not gl-5, VW said to run GL-4. GL-5 says right on the bottle NOT for synchronized transmissions. Gl-5 is for transfer cases not for brass synchronizers in manual transmissions. But why ask us and not Dave folts? He will tell you what to run and has the best knowledge on what works for his builds.

Hi, how we delt with this in the early Nineties was to take apart, put low temp paraffin wax in as a plug to stop swarf getting in the journal. Then we tapped out and put in a case saver cut to length just past the end of the crack with the thread lock tighted. Then filled over the outside of the crack with liquid metal and filled for the cosmetics of the thing. Hope this helps, there may be a better solution nowadays. If it's aluminium and you or someone you know is v Good at ally welding? But I haven't ever seen this done. Good luck. Beautiful build attention to detail is amazing. Cheers C

I use 80/90 in the gearbox and Penrite 20W60 "Extra Ten" in the engine (Its an oil specifically for classic vehicles that require zinc additive for the lifters and cam anti-wear). Love the undercarriage shots Jason, those red brake calipers look the business, I'll bet they stop as good as they look and you'll need it with all those horses to stop!

Thanks Martin, I did a bit of research and the 80/90 is the way to go. The Lucas is supposed to be great for most all transmissions with that climbing technology. I'll check out the Extra Ten sounds cool!

Gee, that sucks. I have that very same outlet glued in with locktite bearing retainer because there is very little thread left. It's going to piss me off big time one of these days.

Lots of things can cause overheating, I would first check the basics. So you have all your tin... engine tune up. Make sure your timing is good and that your not running to lean.
