Turbocharging an MX5 in ONE DAY!

Today we fit a turbo kit to a MK1 MX5 in one day! We got a full turbo kit off Facebook, and we manage to fit it the same day!

So we know how much reputation a turbo MX5 gets, so we decide to give it a go ourselves on Kieran's newly bought Mk1 Mazda MX5. We are no means master mechanics, so the fact we did this in a day makes us all pretty proud!
Turbocharging a car is no easy task, but we manage to smash it ;) to be honest it was fairly easy to do this as it was mostttlyyyy bolt on, and didn't require that much brainstorming, but between the three of us, we did it!

It is safe to drill the sump as long as you grease the flutes of the drill bit and tap and also drop the oil and wash out with spirits not sure that was done though, That Wu Tang War Whistle sounds good though 👍

thought they mentioned he bought a kit second hand, if it included the ECU it was most likely be tuned for the same engine by the previous owner. Still, retune it on a dyno to be entirely sure and safe.

@@Thatcressidaguy whilst that is what I would do, all the videos of people installing turbos on their MX5s they did it with the sump on but using a lot of grease using mineral oil to get the shavings.

I've just bought a rust free 50,000 miles from new mk2 1.6 that I would like to slam a turbo in it I've also got a mk1 S Special 1.6 with the lsd and lightened flywheel being a Japanese import. Well done on this one Lee I loved it.

Silly question but is it safe to tap the sump while it’s still on the car? Thought it would put shavings into the engine

just use enough grease on the drill bit and on the tap. Also, you dont drain the oil until you made a hole in the sump. Also collected some shavings using my pinky and flushed the engine once again with oil. Did my one not long ago. Not too hard

I remember these guys coming to mine to collect the turbo kit. Cheapest kit for sale on the Marketplace. Didnt fit yours exactly how I had it fitted but glad to see it was fairly straight forward for you. Hopefully you haven't crashed or blown it up yet 👍👍

just an FYI. there's a high pressure oil feed on the side of the 1.6 engines ready for your turbo oil feed :) fuck that leaky sandwich plate off and get an (i THINK) m10 x 1.5 fitting to whatever -AN youre running and supply your turbo that way. Its just on the side low down by the exhaust manifold :)

Do you need a decompression plate and stronger internals, or can you just wack 10 pound of boost straight into it?

10psi is safe as it’s not that crazy in one of these it’s under 300bhp so it doesn’t need upgraded internals from what I have seen
