I had a 1979 corolla with a 2rz if you drop the cross member 1 inch would avoid all the headache

good thought! I will probably eventually reconfigure the entire front suspension in order to modernize it, but for now that's not in the books, so ill look into dropping the crossmember.

Couldn't you fabricate a small scoop under the bumper / valance for the intercooler?

honestly, get a turbo and manifold and just start putting things together, you'll be able to learn pretty quick and start getting things sorted out

ill be upgrading the cooling system in the near future, currently the radiator is out of a '65 toyota corona and is a bit small for my liking with a boosted engine
