I worked for TT this past tax season while back in school finishing my accounting degree. I won't say the preparers were bad -they were certainly better than the national chains -but they were not all great. A lot of them had only a season or two of prep experience and the TT training course. Only a handful were EAs or CPAs and they were not top-shelf, if you get my meaning. I was constantly fixing mistakes on 1040s, never mind the business returns. The way they treat their contractors (poorly) means most people don't come back so they start over with a lot of new faces each year. I'm now working for a firm full-time while I finish my licensing exams.

Pay is about $35/hr when bonus is factored in. Another selling point is continuity of working with you, year after year instead of randomly assigned preparers.

I worked for Turbo tax. It went down hill every year little by little when the last CEO left. Every CPA and Tax attorney I knew had left. It’s almost only EA’s or not even. Actually my last manager didn’t even have an EA. Let alone no degree. 9/10 have no idea what they are doing. It’s a luck of a draw there for their customers. And to be honest they don’t even have the technology advantage anymore compared to its competitors like HR block. And many more that popped up.

Can't believe Turbotax is charging that much! But I think most people's foot is in the door with their 1040 so there's the convenience factor to just tack on the Business Return all in one system. Would definitely trust a CPA like you over Turbotax anytime
