I'm based in Melbourne and have been into the car scene for 20 years now, I've seen drifting come and go I've seen Silvia's and skylines go from being worth $40k down to $4k and now back up to $40k for a Rough example, I sold new cars for Nissan for 14 years and its safe to say I have NISSAN BLOOD running through my veins yet here I am being unable to afford the cars I once had which has turned me to becoming a "HONDA BOI" I have to say they are great cars I love learning about them and lets face it value for money they are ridiculously fast!

I think D16Y4 is similar to a D16Y7 (the engine I have). I bought a Y8 VTEC cam and rocker assembly. Hope to get installed soon as I did get my car tuned last week

Speed-factory racing has a titanium set which weighs less and you don’t have to take out the factory pin that’s stuck on the left side rocker arms… you do have to get it in very precisely but worth the patience. (Edit: I only mean reassembling the the rocker assembly as a whole will need patience and precision)

Yes you can but there is always risk! Tune cars after you do mods kids

No you don’t have to change timing

The exhaust cam lobes need to be the same timing and the intake cam lobe is just bigger

Only way to find out is to take the rocker covers off both models

I think it is possible but you will need to check under the valve cover if it looks the same it should work

I have a d16z6 vtec valve train and cam would that fit in a d16y7 head? The z6 head is locked in vtec already so could I just transfer that cam and valve train into the head?

Hi Tristan, will the vtec cam in the non-vtec engine perform like the “real vtec” when driving? Will it require a tune?

Alex Lai g’day Alex, no the vtec won’t perform like a vtec cam, meaning it wont change cam profiles/ so vtec won’t kick in.... VTEC will be on ALL the time, meaning you won’t have to install the vtec computer or tune anything to a degree it should run with an adjustment of timing, if your car isn’t tuned for it and if your car isn’t turbo and you do use your car all the time I DONT recomend doing this it will drive really roughly when driving normally , it will use lots of fuel and it will effect your brake booster, you also should upgrade your valve springs when you do this modification, it’s no different to getting your factory cam reground if it is a not vtec car , I was given this cam for free, if I was going to pay money and do this honestly I would NOT do it, I would just get the standard camshaft reground for a small amount of money ( under $200)

TURBOTRISTAN Thanks for clarifying Tristan! I was hoping this would be the cheaper option to have vtec on a non vtec engine. Prices here in Malaysia for an Australian d16y8 or Japanese d15b vtec is 600aud which is a lil ridiculous as they would want to sell it along with the block without wiring. I guess I’ll just lag all the with my turbo build. Cant wait for you to get yours done! My build would be very similar except the rods I am using is maxspeedingrods. Compression down to 7.5:1

Alex Lai oh you don’t really want low compression, low compression was a thing of the past in the 90s and 80’s that’s how factory turbo cars made the engines last a long time but it makes a lot of turbo lag, you should go for standard compression which isn’t very high anyway, if I were you I would get a standard cam and as a engine machine shop to do a custom regrind it will be better than vtec

cam holder 8mm bolts are 14ft/lbs cam holder 6mm bolts are 104inch/lbs cam gear bolt 27ft/lbs rocker arm cam shaft caps 16ft/lbs

it was really just an excersize for youtube, but yeah also to same some money and just have a play, it helps top end power but low down drivability suffers

swap the engine out for a Kseries and manual or at least an ra20 manual with a turbo, best option is to buy a faster car to begin with, it will be cheaper in the long run

The engine comes from Japan but the y4 is commonly sold in australia and New Zealand and se Asia , the gasket is the same as a y8 or y7 I am pretty sure, there is a shortage on the gaskets from what I can see

The short answer is yes, but no you are better off either doing a vtec lock like me or putting a vtec engine in it to start with you need to replace wiring ecu head and solenoid it’s a big job smaller job to replace the motor

@@hondacivic2548 makes no difference man , I’d say there is more where and tare happening each time vtec locks and unlocks on a factory vtec engine, honestly unless you are turboed I wouldn’t worry too much about it, it’s not really gonna make a great deal of power for the amount of effort you put in

yes you could but actual vtec wouldnt work , you need the mechanical parts and the electrical parts aswell new wiring new ecu and all the matching sensors including a vtec solenoid, ay that stage you might aswell replace the entire engine

I can see this I build a d15b2 with a p08-3 head no VTEC install at all y8 head gasket with a 272 Delta cam regrind header 10 pounds flywheel stage 2 clutch kit d15b2 oem distributor as well d15b2 duel point intake manifold with a weber carb and I wake up a monster peppy like hell sounds like a old Ford muscle car and my CRX looks is bulky fade paint and above all she start pulling around 2500 rpm up hard to 7200 rpm and she in 3 gear be 100 miles no problem . Like I said old school style VTEC Honda only see her back lights well she only weight around 1600 pounds jjjjj 😁 go kart and for tunning a old rusty screw 🪛 jjjjj and for timing up hill CCR born in the byouooooo jjj

@@TURBOTRISTO yeap the best set up and the cheaper of all compression around 10.5 to 11.1 Weber carb shorter rods and cam 272 all work perfectly and the turbo and VTEC is the lighter flywheel jjjjj 😁 junkyards parts with y8 head gasket and a tiny head shape gd on gas easy to maintenance and her port said easy to breathe jjjjj 2 in free flow exhaust system homemade with cherry bum muffler nothing fancy jjjj old school style she sounds like a ford muscle car old school style jjjj
