Trackmania's most shortcut classic track has a very interesting story to it, and one that I myself have played a big part in. Somehow, after every known shortcut was blocked by the author; players always managed to find new ones!

Incredibly enough, the track was just shortcut again for the 9th time! 39.79 by Dennis090. A new variant of cranberries 3rd shortcut, with taking the ring at the end. Simply amazing discovery and execution! See the full run here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gne6q2qiipJkqKM

I think it was mostly lip service. If he really was impressed he wouldn't go trying to "fix" shortcuts. I don't think that the creator should be able to update "classic" tracks, and effectively reset the leaderboard. Times that you earned fair and square, should not be lost, just because the track creator wanted to add one more pole to the track.
@michaelmoloney5112
@michaelmoloney5112 3 жыл бұрын
@@EvanOfTheDarkness I somewhat agree and disagree with that comment I think the update should be to a certain extent like adding a new checkpoint that on a part that people skipped instead of adding 1 item (like a pole.) They should have a certain amount of space that the update needs to be viable

it's a neat trick that had been already done in old trackmania movies, it consists of saving the clip of the camera and rendering two or more videos of different maps of the same mediatracker clip and then alligning them and fade them. it's used a lot in meuh's little big car which you can find in the tm-tube archive!

I was never a great driver so didn't ever design particularly technical tracks but I think it would be interesting to design a track that rather than trying to stop shortcuts, actively gives many opportunities for them and just see who can come up with the most outrageous route through a bunch of checkpoints dotted around in no particular order.

I love seeing the record holders explain the story of speedrunning their game. There are so many amazing little details people who aren't among the elite would completely miss. Having a fuller understanding of the little tricks makes it so much better. I'd never seen Trackmania before youtube sent me here and I'm already getting interested in its speedrunning story. I also really liked the interaction between the designer and the runners here. Typically I would have thought leaving it to develop all the cuts and exploits which develop is better for the speedrun community, but in this case it really seems like both sides are having a ton of fun playing cat and mouse. Its just very wholesome to watch everyone come out happy as in this story.

I would never remove shortcuts. Half the fun is seeing how other people use your creation in unique and unexpected ways.

damn fuckin sick. btw it would be a good idea to add a playlist of the songs that play during the video, cuz they're all bangers, but often shazam doesn't recognise them. keep up the good work, mate!

I actually have the opposite response to the author, the fact that players are willing to learn my track to the point of knowing it's ins and outs better than me and cutting it, I'd feel proud.

I've never even heard of TrackMania until today. But I've just watched 3 of your videos in a row simply because they're so well made, keep it up!

I don't get how and why people dislike videos like these man. If it aint your thing, just don't watch. On another note, very interesting video! Never played Trackmania but your videos are amazing man, very insighful! Thanks!

Holy shoot, I remember chatting with Timebreaker about track building, driving etc. Never would've thought I'd come across that name more than 10 years after having played TMN (the game version before Forever). I guess due to my recent history involving a lot of speedrunning and racing games, the algorithm actually did a good job at recommending something fitting. Nostalgia for days.
Trackmania but the start and finish is swapped...
