I find putting cornstarch and sugar in pvc tubes or containers takebout my ant problems. They eat it and cannot digest it and they perish. I also take those small deli containers and put this mixture in it and place around my beds. Holes on the side just right for an ant and they have a dinner awaiting them…..it keeps it so bees etc can’t get to it…just a suggestion.

I think the grass paths enhances your plot ,it makes the plants stand out more ,I agree some type of mower maybe battery operated or the traditional push one will help ,those strimmers can be pretty brutal in regards to lawns , there's nothing more satisfying than the smell of fresh cut lawn , unless you suffer with hay fever this is

I'm writing from Canada and really enjoy your videos. Great allotment and I have learned many things too. 49 years ago my new summer job at home was cutting the lawn using a gas powered mower. That Summer an ant hill appeared in the lawn about 12 cm. across. I had a hunch, even at that age, that gasoline would kill the ants. I did not take much liquid and was 100 percent effective. About 5 years ago I suggested the solution to a neighbour, with the same success. I would only use this very selectively and carefully.

Here in Texas, USA we have fire ants in wood chips, soil, lawn, cracks in concrete, bags of mulch, everywhere. They are a constant battle for us here. Good Luck! It looks great!

We have Fire ants here in central Texas and they are aggressing and it's very painful when they bite. We have wood paths in our garden as well and have for years. When I see a mound forming we take a gallon of water and 2 TBS of organic orange oil and soak in the mound. We have been gardening here in Texas organically for 30 years and it's the only way to keep them at bay and it does not poison the soil. We really love your channel and are planning a trip to the Cotswold for a vacation in Sept and can't wait. Blessing to you, Mike & Rochelle

Two drawbacks of grass, it can start to grow into your garden beds and in very wet weather it turns into mud. Here in the states we can buy simple square foot concrete stepping stones for a couple bucks each. Got 100 of them I lay down in the wet season and usually pick them up in the summer.

It looks amazing! I tried using Victorian trenches to keep my grass out of my beds, but it was a tripping hazard for the dog and a chair hazard for guests, so I filled it in, and the grass started taking over the beds. Now I'm putting in plastic edging.

You have a wonderful blog which I just found and followed. But there haven't been new posts there in recent years. I hope you'll come back to it because it's really great. Short posts, with a picture and a few words are easier to stick with so that one doesn't get tired of blogging and can keep the blog alive.

Strimming the grass will throw it onto the beds, spreading grass seed. An old fashioned push mower with a catch-all bin is probably a good call. Looks amazing though, makes the other plants 'pop'. Hope it helps with the ant problem.

Hello there. I have 1 main grass path from the gate to the end of my plot and primarily wood chip paths dividing up all my beds everywhere else. I have a significant ant (red and other) problem but all the nests are actually in the soil! I'm generally a no dig gardener and find them when I plant out, or see that something previously planted isn't thriving and on inspection, the roots are infested with the little devils. This year seems to be worse than I've ever known it. I'll be interested to hear your progress. Your new paths certainly look the business. Good luck! J
