Last year, in response to the opposition's demand to send all Syrians back across the border, President Erdoğan declared, "We will never allow Kemal Bey (the opposition candidate) to send our Syrian brothers home!" But the popularity of the Turkish President has since declined, in the wake of a deep economic crisis and a lacklustre rescue response to February's lethal earthquake. Meanwhile, Turkish xenophobic sentiment has grown, with some Syrian neighbourhoods even becoming the target for looting and unrest. As he tries to retain his twenty-year grip on power, Erdoğan announced a plan for the "voluntary return" of one million Syrians last summer.

Want to send people back to their home country is not crime. They are welcomed as guests, they will send as guest.

The difference is that Turks were invited as workers because there were no labour source after WW2. Turkish people never asked or needed Syrian people in Turkey. When somebody comes to your house uninvited stays longer than expected and when you don't have food even for your own children on the table, it is only natural that you want the guests to leave.@@Evonicus

@@Evonicus Well, I can't talk on behalf of the Turks living there. I lived in Germany a year. Some Turks were well educated and well adapted to the German culture. Some were still living in their own ghettos rejecting to be a part of the society. What I meant was the difference of the situations. Germany offered the Turks jobs. Turkey doesnt lack labour force. Our own people struggle finding jobs, we dont have resources for refugees.

@@Evonicus I don't know if you have ever lived in Turkey, but the situation is getting worse here. Women dont feel safe outside especially evenings. We already had our own problems, now we have uncontrolled refugees wandering around. I dont expect you to understand this of course

I was in Istanbul for "3" days as a tourist. I`m from Germany.. My experience: - A Syrian came up to me on the street and spat at my feet and insulted me. - On the tram I saw two Syrians molesting a girl with a headscarf. - As we were sitting in the coffee, Syrians passed the shop window and again insulted us openly. What's wrong with you? Of course, if you're so ungrateful, they'll send you back. It feels like everyone is there for that. Nobody there has anything against Africans because I think they can behave themselves.

As an Lebanese born in USA my heart aches for my syrian brothers displaced. Arab islam has been more of curse than a blessing in the levant. A reason why we let the world divide us into several countries headed by thugs & thieves. British & french demons post ottoman root cause of this mockery. We were all one just Syria no Leb no Israel no Jordan.
