I have to add though, is there anything sadder than watching someone who peaked in high school/college spend the rest of their life trying to relive those days? They gone, man. That life, those people, that person you was. Accept it before you're thirty years old and sitting alone with nothing but your memories.

See, this I'll never understand. I couldn't fucking WAIT to leave high school. I was halfway out the door by the time I got my diploma. One of my best friends from high school never adjusted well to life after high school. He'd DM me drunk as hell and venting about how things weren't the same. He's actually doing well career wise but he's miserable and stuck in a rabbit hole of crazy conspiracy theories.

Depends. I would argue that blink-182 are kinda the epitome of personalities that peaked in high school, yet they're still endearing to this day.

I think his problem is he didn't get to grow out of those days. He just had them taken away. All the good memories tie to the harsh ending, and he probably wants to try and give it a proper goodbye. But it's impossible, cuz what happened is done. Going back into that old lifestyle is inevitably always gonna bring back the pain.

@@nitro8611highschool is when we all have the most extreme emotional highs and lows of our lives due to the fluctuating hormones of puberty. The people that had a lot of really high emotions in highschool are the ones that end up miserable, usually, cuz they're always looking for that big happiness feeling they had as a teenager. The ones that had a lot of extreme lows are the ones that can't wait to get out and who tend to do better afterwards cuz they no longer have those low lows and therefore find life to be easier and happier I have not looked into the actual science begin bf this, I think it would be hard to study, but common sense leads me to believe my theory is mostly true

The fact that the entire cast and crew were willing to agree to sobriety just to look out for Stevo shows how much they cared about each other. They really were good friends which makes what happened to Bam all the more tragic.
@dubvcronix6584

The agreement only said they couldn't have alcohol or drugs on set. As soon as fiming wrapped every day they would hit the bars and clubs and steve-o would just go back to the hotel alone, steve-o as a person has way more self control even though his addiction was much worse. He even mentioned this in the video at one point.

@@dubvcronix6584 I absolutely agree Stevo is an incredible example of how someone can return to sobriety from even the most extreme situation and is an awesome dude. My point is they were a group of oddballs who were largely fueled by alcohol and drugs but made sure Stevo had a safe place to work on their project without the temptation or pressure. It would have have been better if they had all stuck with sobriety on and off set but they all have their issues and vices. The fact they went so far with Bam and even fought to keep him on the cast of Jackass Forever even after he slipped shows how decent they all were especially considering the hateful garbage Bam had said about some of them before that.

Steve-o is someone you can strongly tell went through hell, clawed his way out, and is trying SO hard to drag his friend out of it too. For guys who made their living and fame being as reckless and stupid as possible, they are so good at unconditional love while knowing that it means setting limits and pushing them to be better. If you looked back on their early days I feel like Steve-o’s the one you’d expect to not be around nowadays, the one with the tragic end. I’m so impressed and glad for him that he turned it around and is trying to do some good with it for his friends, for however successful he is.

I remember thinking it was funny sometimes, bc it seemed like it was in good fun w Phil. It struck me as roughhousing, with the roles reversed for the most part. Bam even tried to justify his actions towards Phil as “dude, he LOVES that shit!“ That was until I saw Bam’s “Chester Rumble” from (I believe?) CKY3 w Phil in which he somersault kicked Phil square in the head, reducing Phil to tears. Phil was actually crying, whimpering in pain both physical and emotional over what Bam had just done to him, and all Bam was doing in return was laughing, going “dId It FeEl LiKe A cHeStEr RuMbLe?” It was then when even I knew at 12/13 years old that Bam was some kind of a narcissistic sociopath. Seeing his downfall now kinda feels like karma in a weird way. He bullied tf outta his own father, calling him fat and whatnot, only for Bam to wind up a fatso himself and look like a haggard loser on top of that. In comparison, Phil somehow looks better than his own son who is 20+ years his junior. 😳

enabled. I supppose teenagers aren't different from children who make it big. A lot of actors and famous people go bonkers on this, that, or the other. For adults it's not that different (Kan)ye trips on ego. Many of them do anything to get attention. People all learn by falling down, wanting to stand up. Bam basically got paid to fall. That's one messed up mental trip... Even without that: The attention, being recognised everywhere you go, access to whatever you want, people willing to do whatever you ask of them. Parents who don't seem to have a clue - calling him bam (while laughing, I suppose). Vito as an uncle... dude. The whole metoo bit we see today has a lot to do with that enabling of detrimental behavior. A lot of high profile people numb themselves to deal with stress. Or, like said, go with the pride, denial, whatever keeps them going. Trump comes to mind as well. Boundaries... It's sort of sad half of them were mental wrecks willing to do anything for attention... And Mtv saw $$$. For Bam, Dunn and Steveo specifically, that worked out really poorly. Rock bottom became so much more avoidable.

I can relate a lot to Bam in this video. Days pass like hours in addiction. Loved ones move on to greater things, friends distance themselves, and before you know it, you’re a past tense of yourself- constantly reminiscing on the “what if…” that has become your life. Been sober for a year, and the greatest hurtle I’ve had to overcome is my revisionist view of my past drug use. I cherry-pick the best of times and tell myself “this is what drugs gave me;” ignoring how much pain encompassed those fleeting moments. I hope Bam can get himself out of the cycle. Living in the past is no way to live.

But my second wife came into my life and helped me clean up. But yeah, I was never able to quit until I really wanted to and had a relationship on the line. She just left me on 6/19 after seven years.. I've been hard pressed not to go back to drugs after nearly 7 years of being clean. I actually made an inquiry about some coke the other day. I need to hold strong or all of that progress will be wasted. I was hoping to have kids by now and be moving forward in life with my wife and never looking back. But shit happens I guess. Bam is living the life my dad lived. Abandoned us, run away into a bottle. Every few years, he'd pop up or call, say he was clean and wanted to start over. Two weeks later, he'd be drunk or gone again. That happened until I got the call at 19 that he had died, alone in a hospital from liver failure. I never felt loss when I got that call, because he had already been dead to me for years. Bam, you will realize you fucked up, but unless you realize soon, you won't figure it out until you're dying.

Honestly? The sympathy isn't directed towards him as a person but rather the struggle with addiction. I think a huge heavy majority of those still following this story do so because they have also struggled with addiction, or have been severely impacted by it, and can relate. If you read the comments sections of any of these videos related to addiction full-stop, almost all of them talk about how they watch these videos because they are X-amount of time clean, want to remember why they got clean, and want to spread love, hope, and prayers for anyone going through the struggle too. A&E's Intervention clips show this, as does all Jack*ss content posted on KZbin. I struggled with alcohol and now seek out these types of videos because the comments sections are filled with so much positivity coming from people who are doing the exact same thing. This will be an odd comparison, but those of us who do this, it's like reading news that someone you hated in high school was diagnosed with cancer: They're still jerks but you still hope they get better. I hope this answers your question. Much love and many prayers sent everyone's way 🙏 ❤️

Bam's problem is, he's never been told no. From the age of being a kid and his parents filming and condoning everything he did, up to being an adult and having every crazy idea he comes up with indulged and filmed for movies, he's never ever been told "no, you can't do that". Now he's an adult, and having never been told no he thinks that all of his behaviour should be indulged and humoured; he should be allowed to drink, do all sorts of drugs and address anyone however he wants, and no one is allowed to take offence, or take it seriously, or ask him to address his own behaviour. He firmly believes he should be able to do whatever he wants and make all sorts of demands, and people should give in to them, such as access to his child while he is f**ked up on whatever it is he's doing. Obviously the person ultimately to blame for how he is now is Bam himself, but the people who started that fire and continued fuelling it are the people around him.

Meanwhile I haven't seen any such behavior from Bam. Also Bam has bipolar disorder, which is a bitch and a half to deal with without any substances already. (I have bpd 2, Bam seems to have BPD 1 which is harder to manage). I empathize with him but it seems he is so lost in himself, and is also allowing more selfish behavior to bubble to the surface. Seeing some people blame Bam's parents for his issues since he was coddled as a kid, and I can tell you 100% that it is still Bam's responsibility to shape up himself. There are plenty of people who had been "coddled" as kids who shaped up when they got themselves into enough hard times in life to where they said "oh shit, I fucked up" and made their way back to self-discipline. Yeah, Bam's parents didn't help set him straight, but Bam isn't some shitty 18 year old partier: the dude is 40+ with kids and living on his own. Bam is and always has been a spoiled brat. As a 40 odd year old he still has the mentality of a teenager, lashing out and blaming everyone else when he doesn’t get his way. He made millions in his early 20s, which is probably the worst possible thing that could have happened to him with the kind of mentality he has. He’s never had any discipline or had to respect any kind of authority. You have to hand it to Steve-O for not giving up on Bam and doing everything within his power to help. If Bam can’t take inspiration from someone like Steve-O, a man who has recovered from inhuman levels of addiction and completely turned his live around, then I think this whole sorry mess is only going to go one way for Bam. As a human being, it’s hard to watch someone suffering as much as he is, but at this point only Bam can help Bam and I just can’t see it happening.

I agree. I'm an alcoholic and drug addict as well (7 years and 18 days clean as of 8/2/23) and while it seems like a lot at the time, actually taking responsibility for your own actions & giving up whatever substance it is that you're abusing, that's, in hindsight, the EASIEST part. Staying clean and rebuilding your entire life around your sobriety, that's the "hard work" part, on top of whatever you've got going for yourself, for the rest of your life. As much as I'd love to state otherwise but no way that's gonna happen for Bam unless he's doing a complete 180.

I do agree what you are saying here. I've been following Bam's journey since late 90s, his videos contain hundreds of red flags about unhealthy boundaries around his family. I do appreciate the parents wanted to support him but if I may say, allowing him everything without taking any responsibility for his actions hugely contributed to the person he has become today. There is one thing to joke with your parents, another one is humiliate people etc. His whole idea of ' I don't have an issue with addictions because I drink-use less than Steve O or Brandon' is just upsetting. I honestly hope he gets to the point when he recognises the need for change. A couple of years ago I saw a documentary with him, he was trying to lose weight and practice skating again. I was happy to see this that time but soon realised he is doing even much worse now, it was just a very short period of more stabile mental heath and less alcohol and drug use.

Bam is essentially a parody of who he once was. As for Ryan Dunn, I much as I hate to say it, it wouldn't have been very pretty had he lived. The fact that he had been in nearly 2 dozen accidents because of his drinking is a very good indicator that he was well on his way to either killing himself or someone else. Unfortunately, he ended-up killing himself and another person. Had he lived, our view of him likely wouldn't be so rose-colored, as he'd likely have been facing vehicular homicide charges, etc.

Honesty, the more I watch Bam as I am getting older (I am 45 now), the more I can plainly see that he is a child who never learned the word NO. He was spoiled so much by his parents and given whatever he wanted. He has grown up in front of the camera and for him, the world is a show. He is always acting like a spoiled brat/drama queen who does whatever he wants no matter the consequences or how it affects others. His emotional, psychological and dare I say, cognitive growth was stunted many years ago. He is a man child who acts out on his ID at ALL TIMES and his family and friends always come to his rescue. He never grew up. What we see is a very spoiled and immature man child and the product of his loved ones all acting as enablers. I know he has an addiction, but he also needs to stop being so self-entitled. Look how he screamed at his manager at that club. I WANT TO GO NOW!!! He sounded like a little brat who wants to get his way because he always has. It's sad, but also, the only way to help him is to truly NOT support his bad behavior so that he learns that it is no longer acceptable. I think his parents also need to grow up and stop craving (mostly his mother) the spotlight and wanting to be on camera and famous.

Bam on the other hand refuses to get clean, he’s always blaming other people for his own problems, has burned many bridges, including burning bridges with his family. As of now, Bam is too far gone. The amount of people Bam has assaulted severely and yet he keeps getting away with it is horrifying. It's no wonder he thought he could threaten to murder his brother and was surprised pikachu that his brother called the cops and wanted to press charges. (Almost identical incident to the first gf who broke into Bam's house, ironically enough; he got a protection order against her, but then did the same thing to other people.) I can't find people like this tragic. They're too much of a danger to the rest of society for me to find their personal stories tragic. If they were only endangering themselves, sure, but Bam and Dunn are/were both horrible dangers to everyone who had the misfortune of being around them too. And no one seems to care about the people they hurt along the way, just oh poor Bam, he's having a rough time because Dunn. No, he's been having a rough time since way before Dunn's death and any claim of 'spiraling' after that seems to just be the natural continuation of what he was already doing except now with a scapegoat to blame it on. He literally blamed ripping up a rental van as 'because I must have subconsciously known Dunn died the moment it happened' instead of the far more obvious drunken stupor leading to ripping up a rental like he constantly did before and after Dunn's death.

I’m an alcoholic with 7+ years of sobriety and the story of Bam makes me incredibly sad BUT also grateful that I was able to stop my destructive behaviors. He is living proof that no matter how hard others try the only one that can help an alcoholic is themselves. I hope that Bam can find his bottom and resolve to change his life. 😔

I was adicted to coke for 4 years. In those 4 years alcohol and coke were like peanut butter and Jelly Sandwich. But i was manly on coke. I got myself Help and got clean. To get clean from coke i had to stop the booze. Before the pandemic i had a good work even being manual labor i was happy. One day after the work a co-worker invited me to a beer. It was a hot day. I tooked. What the hell, im clean, i can enjoy life right? Well, now once a week we'd be taking some beer after work. When the pandemic hitted i Lost my job, luckily i found another one home office. The lonelines, the not being able to Cope made me Go to hard liquors. Cheaper and took the pain away. Now os being 3 years im an alcoholic. I drank from Friday until monday late night. I woke up and my heart is beating fast, my bones specially the joints are in pain. I started to watch funny things on youtube to chill and got myself watching Jackass, then steveo talking about being sober and now bam, someone wich i inspired myself as a kid. I feel so Sad, so mad at him and at me. I had nobody to talk to and i can barely walk from pain in my bones. Sorry to vent to you guys.

That man is a piece of work! It's sad that his addiction got him to where he is now but with or without drugs and alcohol, he is clearly an abusive, toxic, dangerous man. I feel bad for his friends and family, especially his son. He deserves better than having that toxic man as a father.

This makes me so sad, because he was such a funny personality, very talented with video editing, and he seemed like a good guy. He was even friends with Ville Valo from HIM, and directed a few of their music videos. When Ville got sober, Bam talked shit about him too and dropped him. The heartagram symbol hes obsessed with is the logo of the band. Its so obvious that hes pissed at everyone who sobers up, because he can't. All his friends are either dead or sober and he cant handle it.

‘It’s so obvious he’s pissed at everyone who sobers up because he can’t’ - I think this is really accurate & common amongst people with addictions. I stopped drinking in my 20s (not an addiction, I just don’t enjoy it) and some people would take it so personally, even though it didn’t affect their night at all. It was just the idea that someone could have fun without alcohol & that someone had control over their drinking habits triggered them. Bring that mentality to a person who has failed at sobriety like Bam, and it’s easy to understand where all that recent anger is coming from - although his violent actions can never be justified. He’s seeing his friends excel in different ways after sobriety & he’s stuck in the past, still doing the same crap 15-20 years later.

I think VV always kept some distance between him and Bam and that led to Bam hating him. Remember that "open letter" he had a friend read to VV before he deleted the video? He accused VV of never saying "thanks" for any of the stuff Bam did for HIM and never really being his friend.

He appeared on Dr Phil asking for help. He was so out of it and made absolutely no sense in any conversation they had. His wife also appeared and the way he treated her and talked to her was unbelievable. I agree with the comment that as a kid he was never told “No”, which only continued into his teenage and adult life. I also saw an interview with Johnny a few years ago. I was so impressed with how he had gone to rehab and got himself and his life back. I was really surprised that all the drugs left him fairly well. There was no permanent brain damage or serious health issues. He grew up quite quickly and seemed to be a mature and responsible adult.

I'm also surprised about Steveo. He can actually string sentences together and he doesn't slur at all. Obviously he sounds like a smoker but it's not too bad. Bam even when he's "sober" sounds like he's seriously messed up. The problem is that life has always rewarded his behavior. Being a D bag is a detremement to 99.9% of the population but these guys got a pass and became some of the most successful people on the planet because of it. That was inevitably going to end poorly for at least a few of them.

Been sober for 166 days now and if I already didn’t want to drink before this was a good reminder that I’m absolutely fine without it lmao. Like many have stated, you have to want to be sober. Even with the traumas I’ve faced in my childhood/early adult life I still had to make the decision to want to live. I hope it isn’t too late for him, but from the way it looks times just about out. Dude still thinks he’s in his 20s.

I don't understand how Bam can't see that his actions are his own fault. He blames everyone else for his alcoholism. He's blamed his parents, his partner, his friends, and even his own son as reasons for his addiction. I understand addiction is awful and he uses alcohol as a coping mechanism but at some point, he has to realize it's not worth the destruction it is causing not only to himself but to everyone else around him. The reality is if he doesn't get clean then alcohol will kill him but Bam won't ever get sober unless he actually wants to.

I think Bam's failure to see his own flaws is the result of the perfect storm that has been his life. He grew up with total freedom to indulge his impulses, got filthy rich, and never really learned to grow up and take responsibility. That coupled with multiple head traumas over the years and heavy substance abuse, its going to fry the best of minds... In order to fix something you need the right tools, and i dont think Bam ever got those tools if you know what im saying
