Correction : Last 30 year not 20 You need to correct your information, Turkey's self - defence industry founded after Cyprus , begin first productions and trained first engineers in 80's , first fruits gathered in 90's : APCs , Rocket launchers,artillery systems , cannon systems, Balistic missile technology, Milgem Corvette project, First Armor technologies , communication - avionics and laser + heat seeking guidence systems (check aselsan's website) completed in 90's . Without crawling phase , you can't run. Without Ozal's and Erbakan's visions and lessons taken in Cyprus, without their efforts it couldn't be possible, only calling last 20 year as progress is kinda insult their heritage. Turkey discussing about Fighter jet because this country learned making planes by producing F-16s .. Become one of the biggest F-16 spare part supplier , done modernization projects for some countries. Turkey learned making rifles with producing copies of Mp5 - Mg-3 - G3 .. I can give more and more example . Let's just not call it 20 years for showing respect to good and patriotic people of old goverments.

These weapons are so similar in every way. They are both exceptionally capable of sinking the largest aircraft carrier with a direct hit. Turkey has been using the Harpoon since the 1970s, and as such has decided to produce its own version, at a much lower cost, in much larger volumes with no permission needed from the USA for use of the weapons. They certainly state they are decades behind Turkiye, In fact one Greek general stated that Turkiyes Professional personnel, (not conscripted) is much more higher than the entire Greek Military forces combined. Greece is definitely terrified if you follow the greek media reporting on Turkish weapons etc As for being a cheap copy, yes of course its cheaper, because we are making it as opposed to Greece paying through the nose, and they are only the blok 1s. Tell me if war breaks out, how many days worth of ammunition and missiles does Greece posses. According to the Greek military reports it is a week at the most, whilst Turkiye develops its own and can continue to do so even times of war, meaning Turkiye can continue to make weapons indefinitely in time of war.

Harpoon low speed is one of its advantage, harpoon can be launched from almost anything from aircraft, submarines, ship, Offshore batteries, etc. The harpoon has been upgraded to be installed with new technology. And its capabilty has been proven for years. The harpoon small dimension is also an advantage so that it can be installed on a small platform.
