Spoken Turkish is very difficult to understand because of the different syntax of the language and also to pronounce because of the long words created by the many suffixes. I’m learning Turkish on my own and I’m able to read and understand a lot more of what I read than when I hear it because in written Turkish I have time to figure out the relationship of the words. While in spoken Turkish I have no time to figure out the meaning/relationship of the words.

I started to learn Turkish about 6 months ago and I made exactly the same experience. As someone with mother language German I still have to rearrange the order of the words to understand the sentence.

my experience is the complete opposite, I have difficulties reading than listening I guess b/c my listening abilities are good as I learnt english to a high level plus I have been listening to over 1000+ hours of turkish since mid 2021.

@@lewessays What sources are you using for listening? I'm watching Turkish's series, which is one of the first reasons I started to learn the language since too much is lost in translation and because I want to visit Turkish and be able at least to understand the basic to move around the country.

@@kwffmYes and this is easier for me, at least, in written Turkish because I can pause at any point in the reading and figure out the meaning of the sentence, but when I'm listening to spoken Turkish in movie or something by the time I get the meaning of the few first word the conversation is too far ahead.

@@dzevadbayraktar322as a Hispanic, the Turkish R is much softer and if its at the end of a word or after a vowel and before a consonant it sounds more like an American R but most of the times it just a small tap of the tongue to the roof however
