I'm from India and I'm here after watching 6 episodes of Hercai because I noticed a slight change in their accent as compared to the other shows I have watched. For example they say Ağa with a sound of G in it. And usually I've heard turkish people say Ağa with a silent ğ. Also there's a sound of 'kh' when they say 'k.' For example usually I'd hear Çıkıyoruz with a sound of clear K. And in Hercai everyone says it like Çıkhıyoruz, with a sound of 'kh.' And now I'm going crazy because I'm not able to explain myself clearly so I'll just leave it here. 🤣

I am from Sivas (a city in Turkey), but I have been living in Istanbul since I was born. My grandmother and grandfather live in Sivas, accents really differ from region to region, sometimes I can't understand them! Aha eksiciside gelmis.

In Türkish we have only 3 dialects, Öghuz, Karluk and Kipcak. As an Uzbek, I understand 99% Uyghurs. 80-90% Kazakh, Tatar, Kyrgyz (Kipchak Türks). 70-80% Azerbaijan/Türkiye. Türkmenistan 50-60% Because They have the same Scottish accent when they speak. But most of the time, I haven’t had any problem to understand or make myself understood when I visited those Türkic countries, most of the Türkic people find it hard to understand our Özbek dialect while we can understand them pretty well.

Merhabalar Can and everyone. I learnt Turkish when I lived in İstanbul in the late 80s/early 90s. Back then I had to learn Turkish as very few people spoke English. By the time I left İstanbul, after 5 years of almost total immersion in the language, I was a confident speaker of the language. Fast forward 30 years and I am back in Turkey again. Now I am in Kahramanmaraş. It is geographically in the Mediterranean region of Turkey, in the south but closer culturally to its south-east Anatolian neighbour Gaziantep. I have no idea what these people here are saying. At first I thought my Turkish was crap after such a long absence but now I know it's their crappy Turkish! Standard Turkish = ne yapıyorsun(uz)? (what are you doing?) Maraşcı = Neyapyon? or worse - Notiin? (Huh???????? Totally incomprehensible for me but I finally worked it out) Thanks for the video - it has given me back my confidence in speaking/understanding Turkish! Lovely! I wish I could make a vid like this about Uzbek regional dialects - Kashkadarya general and my hometown specific dialect, Surhan, Anjan (Andijon), Namangan, ooooo you name it! Even within my own vilayet there are at least 5 distinctive dialects! Mine is Shakhrisabzcha, a standard Uzbek with Persian mild pronounciation and with distinctive Present Continous (yapiyor - qilopti (standard Uzbek would be qilayapti), and To be Going To (gelmek istayorum - kelmoqchiydim in Shahrisabz - kelmoqchi edim in standard Uzbek).

Thank you for this very interesting video! I appreciate your attempts at various Turkish accents though I know they are probably imperfect since it is very difficult to perfectly replicate an accent you don't have. It's really interesting to me how much the Southeastern dialects you did (Urfa and Diyarbakır) sound like Azerbaijani! With the "ə" sound in "sən" and the "x" sound. I wonder how similar they are to dialects of تورمی in northwestern Iran.

In Ask laftan anlamaz the parents were speaking in a certain way and I thought that it is just an archaic version. You know, most of the time the different generations sound different even in the same region. Than they explained that the family are Laz people from the Black sea region. I do not know if the actors were doing it right but it sounded very melodic and with more power and vibe in the sound.

Oh no, it's not like that exactly. You can speak İstanbul accent and anybody would understand you easily. And you can always ask for them to speak slowly and clearly. Turkish people are friendly and eager to help most of the time. I don't think you will have a hard time in here. Besides those accents are mostly spoken in small places like villages but in the town centre you can find İstanbul accent along with those accents especially in Aegean or Mediterranean side.

Just one thing: there is NO such thing as "the purest" dialect of any language. Languages are living things, they are used for different communities with different social, economic and historical backgrounds. The "standard" dialect is usually a matter of power (Language Politics studies deal with that): the dialect from the most influential region or city is usually taken as the standard. It has nothing to do with "pureness", which is, from a Linguistics point of view, doesn't exist. Great video though! Thanks for sharing.

İstanbul Türkçesini yaparken R'leri çok yuvarliyorsun ve eylemleri kısaltıyorsun. Mesela "geleceksin" yerine " gelceksin" diyorsun. Bu daha ziyade üniversiteli türkçesi olmuş. Ama yine de güzel çalışma.
