Would you be willing to upload an SVG for the roof shingles? I'm new to Cricut, but I think there might be something wrong with the project file preventing me from importing it.

To avoid overspray, use a paper card (or whatever is handy) to block what you don't want to get paint on while airbrushing.

Well to be fair..... Using a Cricket machine to make stuff like this is something that has been going on since the company went to the design space concept.. so many years at this point ....
@saltfreegamer
@saltfreegamer 8 ай бұрын
Just a heads up - the cricut is pretty tightly tied to the online tools you need to run it, so you're dependent on continuing support from the company just to use it. When they shut that down, your cricut becomes a door stop. Silhouette cutters come with more future proof, offline software, and even have some open source options.
@TI3RU
@TI3RU 8 ай бұрын
@@saltfreegamerseconding this, I bought a silhouette almost 10 years ago and have never needed to do anything special beyond replacing old/worn out blades and un-sticky sheets. Since it's old it's super noisy but still works great!

Airbrush tip: a quick way to mask off flat, straight areas like that roof section is to hold a strip of card (like a business card) against it with one hand, and spray with the other. It won't be as crisp as tape or masking putty, but it's way faster and easier.

Something else that works REALLY well for thin strips of wood texture, is the flat sections of styrofoam clamshell food takeout containers. I’ve used those for some of my builds cuz I have good access to them from working in a restaurant and snag some that get thrown away cuz they fall on the floor or whatever. They take wood grain texturing very well!

The problem with their build was, in my opinion at least, that they added way too much stuff. To the point that they might as well had started with a block of xps foam. When picking a foundation to work off from, you do so to cut down in build time. However their builds still took quite some time.

I used a bunch of these for Frostgrave terrain. I didn't join them together, just made them as individual buildings. Jeremy's are much more elaborate than the ones I did (cardboard for trim on all corners, shingles were strips of card cut with scissors and glued to the roof) Works great for Frostgrave. Nice work Jeremy!

I have seen the cheap bird houses being used for ttrp terrain, but in the video that I saw they used so much stuff to cover and alter the house that they could have used a xps block as base as well. In your build you really lean into the fact that the bird housed have the right shape and only add what is neccesary. The other channel didn’t inspire me, but you really did. Great work! And loads of accessable techniques.

This is so cool! A tip I got from life-size DIY: When you're airbrushing the roof/wall line (red and white base coats at around 10:44) - grab a sheet of cardboard or I like a paint scraper, and cover the wall to the edge while spraying the roof (you see a lot of people doing paint spraying on actual houses using this method, with giant bits of cardboard or sheets of material
