This is THE sound! And you can put a volume pedal in the loop to tame the power amp section.

Wicked Sensation! I've had a Legandary Tones preamp in my Plexi for a few years, it really works great. I'm a real Plexi fanatic, just love them, and this mod makes them even better to play. Punishes your hearing, but that's inevitable. Sounding great, my friend!

Yeah.. i can see a lot Mr.Scary vibes in your playing, that´s cool. Lynch is a one the most under rated G heroes all time. But after all love your channel. Nice 80´s and great modern stuff in it. Kippis!

Don't know if I've mentioned this before, George Lynch is a really nice guy. Met him and spoke for a little while, he couldn't have been more humble and just like a good person, no superstar ego. That was nice.

WOW!....I didn't see that coming. For those of us old guys that absolutely love that Sunset strip classic hard rock tone (EVH-Fair Warning, Invasion/Privacy), this could very well be exactly what we've ben after. Those tones by today's standards are low gain. And, those guys were all using amps from the 60's, and early 70's. Incredible video Euge. Btw...I also saw one where this (or something very similar) was used with a Runt 50, that sounded spectacular, as well. Love your tone when you dial the gain back a bit. BTW....that guitar is the perfect guitar....a volume knob, with a pickup selector (if I'm looking at it properly). Well done 👍 P.S. I completely agree with you on that Klon clones. I use a Tumnus with my old Marshall clone, and it pairs absolutely perfectly. So, much so it's the only OD style pedal I use, now.

It's always fun to see how you explain the different tonal options using pedals. Sounds killer in the Plexi! Does it add noise though??

Like with everything; the more gain the more noise but that’s why we have noise gates/suppressors 😎.

I swear I heard Kyle Bull saying that he had tried a Hot Mod in a 5150 or maybe it was a Rectifier . I’ve always wondered if they would work in a DSL 20 not because it doesn’t have enough gain but to see what it would sound like on the “clean” channel.
@EugeValovirta230V9 ай бұрын
Not physically possible with 5150.

I tried that in my 1987 JCM 800. I don’t like it too much. It doesn’t just add gain, it changes the EQ a bit too and makes a loud amp like a 800 even louder. I like it loud, I have Marshall’s, but I can use my 800’s live no problem at lower volume, but with this it’s too loud to use live unless I’m playing outside or in a bigger place. I’d rather use an overdrive.

This is awesome! Do you need to rebias when adding the Mr Scary, or can you just pop it in?

Yeah! It has nothing to do with power tubes so no need to re-bias them (power tubes).

Hello Euge! Thank you for the video! I've never heard of this mod before. In your opinion, is Plexi with a mod similar to the sound of Friedman Be?
@EugeValovirta230V9 ай бұрын
Thanks! I haven’t compared but I don’t think so ’cos Plexi is non-master volume amp so it’s quite different than Be or any master volume amp.

I currently have the hotmod evo 2 in my 1987x and I'm thinking of buying another for my 1985 2204. Have you noticed any difference in the amount of gain or tone between the mr scary and the evo 2 or is it just that you adjust the amount of gain with the knob
@jamescassidy40459 ай бұрын
The 1987X is a 50w right? I just got a 1969 1987 Tremolo Amp, but funny enough it has a tube rectifier. I haven't been able to pin down if it was a Mod, or if it was original, but I have a feeling it was some kind of transitional/one off thing, or a custom amp from back in the day, but I'm not sure how to tell for sure. I want to send it to someone though to bring back into spec, and I've been thinking of getting a Legendary Tones unit for it.

In your opinion, is there any quality difference between the point-to-point 1959hw and the pcb 1987x?
@EugeValovirta230V9 ай бұрын
Honestly I have no idea. They’re both great amps but in general I’ve always liked 1987 more than 1959. I couldn’t care less if something is point-to-point, pcb or whatever. I just play the amps and if I ”feel it” the and it does what I want it to do I’m good.

Would this mod make sense if my plexi has a PPIMV? Or would it be redundant since the PPIMV adds gain?
@user-mg5lr4kv7g4 ай бұрын
A $70 Boss sd-1 would be much better in the front end with a master volume Plexi.
@mbgmail59119 ай бұрын
I don't understand why would anyone use this mod if you are then again using the overdrive pedal to boost. You can get enough gain from the pedal anyway.
@EugeValovirta230V9 ай бұрын
Just to make the amp juicier and the amp behaves quite differently when it has four preamp tubes instead of one. You can have more everything if you want. The amp becomes more versatile. You can have more preamp gain and less power amp gain with lower volumes. You don’t need to turn everything to ten to get a really full sound. Add overdrive in the mix and you have a pretty versatile setup from cleans to earth shattering gain with basically any volume etc etc…well I covered all of these in the video and some more but maybe you didn’t watch it 🤷♂️.
