I'm having flashbacks to 1982. My best friend in high school (Chris) had a 1968 AMX with a set of classic Cragars, and his dad had a stock 1970 Rebel Machine. The AMX had side pipes similar to the ones in the video. I bet Chris and I burned up 100 gallons of gas cruising on Saturday nights. Good times.

This build has been such a roller coaster for me. First the excitement over the underappreciated AMC pony car, then the horror of the proposed LS swap, then the happiness of the change to build the original 304. I love the paint job, I am OK with the pipes, I really hate the stance. I was a young teen when this 'old school' look was new school. My best friend had a '67 Firebird 400/4-speed with the headers and cherry bombs and a jacked up rear end with Cragars and super wide tires. It looked good on that car, this car not so much. I am super glad you kept the Pierre Cardin interior trim. I'm glad you did this car but I wish you had made some other choices.

It’s beautiful. Nice job! I learned to drive in my dads 74 Javelin AMX auto 360. I soon owned a 1970 390 Borg & Warner 4 speed Mark Donahue Javelin in my later teenage years. Fat tires on the back, side exhaust, bumper bars on the rear leafs, this is a different model year but it reminds me of the cars I drove and I miss it. I would love this car, someone read my dreams.

Being a lifetime AMC fan, I like the starting point for their project. Can't say I agree much with their choices. Other than buying the core, pretty much the same cost to do a 360 as a 304. with a fair amount more power. I like the period correct Cragar S/S wheels, but would rather keep the tires inside the fender lip. And IMO "pontoons" belong on boats - not muscle cars.

Damn! My second car (at age 18) was a red (with black vinyl top and black interior) 1973 Javelin with the 360. Put Mickey Thompson 50s on the back and I can't remember the wheels right off hand. This would have been about 1978. The car had just over 50,000 miles on it when I bought it. Biggest problem I remember was that it went through those Motorola alternators about one per year until I converted to an AC Delco alternator, which worked until I sold it.

Car looks really nice. I just think the side pipes need to be a little longer. They look too short to me. Maybe it's because I had a set of side pipes on a 1977 Buick regal. I measured the pipes and had them come from the front wheel well then the tip exited right before the rear wheel well. So it went that whole length. But to each it's own the car looks really nice

I guess you guys are going for that retro look of the 70's early 80's. Well you differently got it. My 70 Javelin had the biggest tires I could fit, They used the letters back then. L60-15 Yea they stuck out a few inches and looked like crap. Why did you do this? The 71-74 Javelin looks so good with wide tires tucked under. if you get the off set correct 295/60-15 fit perfect. Also go with a 360 same stroke but with a much larger 4.080 bore compared to 3.75. huge difference.400+ HP with the same mods you did on the 304. everything else looks good. hope the next owner gets the stance right. It makes me cringe. Lets ot even talk about handling.

+1 Yeah, they went way too big on the tires. Looks funky. I remember seeing lots like that in the 70s, but that doesn't make it cool. Lower half of 200 hp is ridiculously low for even the street on a big car like that. You could easily make 350-400 WHP and be perfectly streetable and reliable. I wouldn't spend $40,000 on a car like this just to have a dog under the hood.
