I used a variation of this. I needed something to monitor my waiting area down the hall from my office. I wanted a larger screen than my phone to be always on so I could quickly look at it from my desk. I installed a Wyze v3 camera in the waiting area and wirelessly connected it to the office router network with the Wyze app on my phone. Then I bought an Echo Show 8 - 2nd generation and installed the Alexa app on my phone. I downloaded the Wyse skill for Alexa and was able to display the v3 camera on the Echo. The connection sometimes cuts out (not because of signal strength) and I have to re-select the camera on the Echo which is annoying but it gives me a large, HD color picture that is always on. This is much better than a baby monitor and even allows me to see the waiting area from anywhere on my phone when I’m away from the office. This was much less expensive than a traditional security camera setup. I tried this using a Nest camera but the connection was not reliable. I covered the camera on the Echo with the shutter and disabled everything I could including the microphone.

I just can't see the difference between this, shown in the video, and doing a drop in to my echo show when away from home. I bet the only diff is that in drop in I can talk and been listened to on the other side... I think that's the deal, right? I would love to have this feature in "spy" mode, where you'd be able to see what is going on somewhere without people knowing they were been screened. Thanx

What security device do you recommend for the elderly? Someone told me that the RING security cameras hooks up nicely to the amazon show. We need something to keep an eye on the aides who will be in my mom's home. RING said that I need to buy a camera for each room and then connect it to the ALEXA and the Show and put the show by the door where I should get a RING doorbell and my mom would be able to see who is at the door and a 2nd one in the kitchen. Research shows that elderly abuse and theft is the most common problem with aides. My mom does not know how to use a smart phone and RING said that the family would put the app on our phones where we can keep an eye on things at her home. Also, RING said that we can connect this to alexa which I could put one in every room in case my mom falls, she can ask Alexa to call us or call 911. Do you know anything about this or can give me advice?

Unfortunately, not everyone is smart phone crazy...how can you monitor the echo show on a PC ? You can open the app and click on communication then click on the device you want to use and simply make a video call

When I first set it up... I could hear, what was going on in the room. Then when I got home, it seems like I can't hear what's going on. I use my cell phone in Alexa app to monitor my Echo Show. I bought it in 2024. I had to start monitoring my friend's nursing home room. He is having problems with the staff & his cares.

Once you disconnect your phone from the Wi-Fi the connection is going and you cannot use the camera unless if you are IN the house which is pointless 😴
