As long as waster is flowing through it I wouldn’t worry. All the nasty debris if anything provides sources of food for the babies.

I use jackfruit leaves , in my city there's thousands of jackfruit trees all over and I get them for free . What I like is it releases the tannins slowly, very slowly unlike tea or Indian almond leaves . Besides it contains various vitamin and aspertic acid . So my Betta tank and also in my main tank I use these leaves. I can see my angels, severums and electric blue acaras have much vibrant colors , not to mention the bettas and guppies. And when the jackfruit leaves get really soft after a few weeks, the severums eat them , sometimes the angels too , I don't have to remove them .

I do that process - but also cut the top of the bags open and slowly over time pour their tank water into the bag. NEVER had an issue - so far....

interesting video. One possible variant of this is to create some black water the usual way, a black water tank, and add a tiny amount to a normal fish tank and see the reaction. A small glass full. That way you keep your normal aquarium (not black water low pH), but introduce some black water occassionally and see whether the fish like it. Like your tea experiment.

Blake. Off topic question: I used to place my glass Jaeger heaters sideways so the rising heated water didn't turn the thermostat off too soon ( in theory ). When I swapped over to using Aquael heaters I asked the distributor if this should apply to their heaters too. But the advice I got was to use them vertically. I'm now thinking this is unecessary and bunk. What is your experience with these heaters ?
@BlakesAquatics2 күн бұрын
@@daviddebrequet2563 i have always put mine at 45 degrees because i feel.like the hot water ris8ng over the heater itself would compromise the accuracy of the thermostat. I dont really think it matters all that kuch ive ever seen people have them upside down. The key is to just have flow over it to spread the heat around

Don't add black or green tea to your shrimp tank! Caffeine is toxic for several crustaceans, likely also for shrimps.

I did graduate from Bunnings smart plugs, I had too many of the arlec grid connect ones randomly break for no reason. If I got a good one they were fine for years, a bad one would break in a few weeks and there’s no notification when they go offline. I now use Tapo from amazon, they’ve been reliable and have more functions, similar price range anyway.

Mate, love your vids. I respect teas and caffeine, I believe that tea and your garden variety camellias come from the same family and while most species of Camellia contain caffeine and catechins, the caffeine level in the camellia 'japonica' is undetectable; worth a try in your ongoing experiment............

I use a lot of rooibos in tanks, you only need to leave them in the tank for half an hour, the tannins are released quite quickly, there is minimal to be gained form extended immersion and the danger of the bag breaking down and filling the tank with tea leaves. I wouldn’t use ordinary tea because of the caffeine. I do also use a powdered humic, fulvic, and amino acid product used in hydroponics as well. If you want a very dark black water then loquat leaves are very powerful.
@jrgptr9354 күн бұрын
[Transl. from German by DeepL] Dear Gerald, unfortunately I have to tell you that the so-called "rooibos tea" does not contain any tannins at all, because it is: not tea. Tea is made from Camellia sinensis/C. assamica, and these give off the tannins. Rooibos "tea" made from redbush does not do this, you can just as easily add peppermint to the tank. I myself add about a quarter of a litre of freshly brewed Assam tea (naturally sieved and without sugar) to 10 litres of fresh water when changing the water in the tank, so you don't have any trouble with broken bags; i.e. 2.5%, the water darkens in the following days. If you leave the tea to stand for an hour or two beforehand, you will have the darker water immediately if you want it. Greetings from the Saarland!

I Wouldn't recommend black tea as it does contain caffeine... Rooibos tea on the other hand is great and one I've used for years in place of IAL. Rooibos does not contain caffeine and ahs better antioxidant and anti fungal properties that IAL and Rooibos also will NOT change your Ph like IAL will.. Rooibos doesn't darken your water as much as IAL and I personally found Rooibos was a better option to promote breeding in Betta's than IAL.. Just my experience. Rooibos is easy to get at any supermarket and I use it at 1 bag [per 20 litres with awesome results. I usually make up a strong cup of rooibos tea using boiling water and let that cool and then pour it in the water..
